Are you doing to TAS it, moozooh?
No, but after talking about it on IRC, neither Atma nor I had any clear idea on how to exactly to glitch the game after getting succubus soul. I only discovered groobo's run today, and it seems Atma hasn't seen it yet.

Yes, that I know. Atma showed me the example.

Haven't tried them yet, I'm not sure it will work as effectively as the Octagon input because it's less points but not as circular compared to the octagon (I went for the more logic directions (4 and 8 points)).
Does it make a difference in the game, actually, except obvious input time? I haven't played it so I don't know.

I decided to make a new thread instead of posting here, because that one was somewhat unrelated. Anyway, since the game is once again broken apart by glitches, it appears that we are looking at ~sub-25 minute TAS possibilities. The almighty groobo made a test run here, and it seems to me that most of his route/glitching/soul collecting strategies are quite optimal. Any thoughts?

It might be longer to do a full 360 turn but it's more likely that Link will perform a spin attack because the stylus input is more circular.
What about pentagon, hexagon?

Thank you for these detailed comments, they sure help appreciating your actions and appraising the quality of the run.

Haha. Japanese people are so used to good players they mistake TASes for unassisted play.

I said nothing in regards to your run, and won't until the submission. The only reason I made that post is that it bugs me when people don't call things by their names. In return, you're acting like an abuse victim. Yeah, you're pretty awesome.

To be completely honest, I don't think you understand the concept of assumption.
arukAdo wrote:

This is an assumption: you can drop the sword, you just haven't managed to do it so far. If the final sword has higher damage, and it is enough to offset the time required to get it when compared to holy claymore, it being faster is not an assumption, but a fact.

Wow, this is fucked up alright. :D My path contained a pair of [] brackets and three Russian characters. Moving the folder to the drive's root "solved" the issue, thanks.

Hmm, seems like DeSmuME doesn't play samples back correctly. This can be heard when entering new areas or when Shanoa moans after a hit.

Eh, there was more than one reason the animation weren't reproduced. I do agree that run was the most entertaining of them all, though, and not only due to the animations.

This is odd. My copy of DeSmuME-rr that I have at home plays movies and has perfectly working turbo and savestate hotkeys. Once I moved it to my work computer, none of that works. I tried redownloading it from the first post and deleting the .ini file, still no go. When I load a movie I have already seen at home here, the game resets, but movie does not play (frame counter reads "no movie"). I tried both normal and no-SSE2 versions. I tried recording a movie myself, but couldn't even find where does it save a movie to, if it even does. I kind of realize it's a funny way to make me actually work at work, but still, any advice? The OS is WinXP SP3, CPU Athlon 64 X2, 1 GB of RAM.

I'd like to see Radiant Silvergun full-chained.
It actually has been done unassisted, by T3-CYR-WIZ. The score is 27.55 million. There is a pretty good video of his at Super-Play! (it does contain some mistakes, though, and the score is lower). There are two major problems with Silvergun: 1) it's SLOW; 2) playing it for score takes inhuman amounts of time.

Well, I'll try to explain myself. Usually I'm in favor of in-game timers, but in some cases that requires a heavy menu manipulation as the player gets items that vary in their benefits enough for being swapped every now and then. It disrupts the flow of the game and makes it less comprehensible. For a good example of this, I usually refer to the current SDA run of Castlevania AoS boss rush mode with Soma: while the ingame timer shows 01:21 at the end, the movie itself is twice as long, and it's barely possible to understand what's going on without pausing to see what the player does and reading a boatload of explanations for each step. Mind you, this is one of my favorite runs on SDA ever, but it would become obnoxious pretty quick if it was significantly longer. Obviously, a good TAS would try to minimize the timer in the exact same fashion, except the whole thing will last much more than 2.5 minutes. While I obviously understand the benefits of directly comparing in-game time, it shouldn't sacrifice entertainment for the sake of convenience. That's my two cents.

But seriously, what IS all that text saying? Buncha vvvvvs and wwwwwwws. Am I missing some international font files? My browser normally shows Japanese text. And how can anyone even watch the video with all that stuff scrolling? Is it commentary or ads? Just curious.
If I remember right, "w" is short from "warui", and "wwwwwww" is analogous to "lol" or "lolololol" for most purposes. This is viewers' comments on the stuff happening in the video at current point in time, from what I can tell.

Also, any chance on a "aims for least in-game time" category for Castlevanias? It would affect gameplay significantly, and make comparison of tool- and unassisted runs a lot easier.
I'm going to ask exactly two questions: 1) is there more than one set of items that could require switching depending on the situation; 2) if yes, is there more than a single situation where items have to be swapped back and forth. My (and I'm sure, many others') opinion solely depends on the answers, and I can elaborate the reasons.

You don't need an account to watch that video, which you would know if you had clicked it.

There are tons of English tutorials on this on the net… which you would know if you had searched for them. >_>

The emulator just doesn't get the timing of a scene right, it doesn't necessarily involve bugs.

Quick and dirty LQ: http://www.sendspace.com/file/4mpek6 I'm playing this game right now, and damn loving every minute of it. It's a very well-done game.

Except the fact that YouTube's "low" resolution is equal to or higher than the standard resolution of pretty much every console represented on the site. The problem with it is low bitrate, which is the thing that makes encodings blurry for the most part.

At least half of those were perfectly modest and civil responses. If it's this kind of posts that makes you sick, I believe you should seek medical attention.
