Inability doesn't equal unwillingness, though. Sometimes it's a medical problem.

I posted that video in IRC a few days ago… Figures, should have done it on the forums. Yayu50 is Hotarubi, the guy that did numerous world records on Super Metroid. The reason I stumbled upon it earlier is that I'm subscribed to his channel. :P

It is an arcade-oid game, there's barely any text (and none worth reading, anyway). The other point is that saving 20 sec just by changing a ROM is not a good enough reason to do so, in my opinion. The rules imply that a non-U ROM must have something else that is clearly superior in tool-assisted sense, and shorter intro is a thing everyone can take advantage of regardless of the tool usage.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. What I meant was that you jumped just before reaching them and it looked a lot like you could do a second jump to jump on a tombstone from that point… but instead you set against it and jumped from a standstill. I'm at work atm, so I can't give you exact frame numbers, but I believe you can locate things I'm talking about yourself.

It looks fine by me, although your style of playing is very much centered around hinting at a possibility of doing one thing and doing another in the end (jumping on the tombstones, waiting for the waves, not getting on the golden armor despite being a few pixels away, etc.). Unfortunately most of the time it looks like you could have done a better thing, even if it wasn't better or faster by calculations.

I like how this site's content falls under DVD piracy, judging by the table. :) Well, it's still rather useful for beginners willing to stop being ones.

No, no, that trick is obviously from the "bullshit" category, as opposed to "I've already discovered this". It means it will only save a meager amount of frames, if any, and won't allow any new shortcuts.

No, because a movie is a continuous stream of keypresses bound to every frame of the movie. If you stop the movie, wait even a frame, and then somehow resume from the point you stopped, it will quickly desynchronize. However, if you save a state during the movie, then stop it, watch/play the game in normal mode, load the movie again and load the savestate you made, it will be just fine.

Amazing, how did such a thought even manage to cross your mind. :P It's been a known problem since a long time ago, and I remember starting a debate about it when Fabian's first SMW96 run was being published. Anyway, exactly about it's and old and known issue, I suggest not discussing it here.

When two Andrews get together, they become a Super Werewolf TASing team! (Actual slogan for a never released action movie.)

Could it be that Robo's theme was intentionally covering Astley? :)

It's kind of the other way around: let those who want to watch specific cutscenes find them themselves. No need to impose them on people who are looking for speedruns (that skip content whenever possible, anyway).

That's only if you assume there is a third state between yes and no. Your analogy wouldn't fly so well if something like electrical current was at question: it either goes, or not. Do you insist there is some other state (half-progress, half death, something else)?

I suppose you need the latest Dolphin, the game ISO, and a working bios file. I'd suggest you to wait until everything needed (savestates and emulation in teh first place) is implemented properly, unless you want your TAS to be incompatible with later versions. Edit: spelling.

Metroid Redesign is a very very good reinterpretation of Super Metroid. It's coherent, challenging, and huge.
