This is fantastic for a game with an average playtime of over 40 hours.
Sorry, I accidentally voted "no" instead of "yes". Call me a noob, I meant "yes".

I'm working on a 200-line TAS of the Marathon mode, starting at level 1. I'm halfway done, having placed 252 of the necessary 500 pieces.

Nice work! I find it entertaining.
Do you feel it's significantly more entertaining as a playaround (superplay) than a speedrun?
Even if you're not aiming for fastest time, it's good form to optimize everything you can without compromising your goals. You take a hit at 1:18 in the run. Does that serve any purpose, or is it better avoided?
Is all the menu navigation at the beginning well-optimized?

That is an encode of his rejected submission from 6 months ago, not the current submission.
Here is a temp encode of this submission.

Didn't realize a game objective was incorrectly listed.

For example, you are only getting closer to the end of stage when you are moving forward (and moving only forward gets you to the end faster than moving diagonally forward). Therefore, any time you can, you should be moving straight forward. Any time you are not moving straight forward, it should be because you have no choice but to change your path, i.e. you are about to be hit and will die, or you need to change paths to get a needed scroll.
This comment is not based on the current video, but Priam is very right, and got4n's first stage improvement minimized diagonal movement.
Though still inoptimal, nico30620's current submission is far better than most commenters so far are making it out to be (48 seconds faster and 10 times the rerecords of the last submission).

Wow, AIZ1 sounds really optimized now. I can't wait to see the finished product!

The final rerecord count for AIZ1 will exceed 9000, and it’s the second time in my life when I consume over 9000 rerecords for just one single act. The previous time was this. Sadly, I already proved that attempt beatable, btw.
All for the greater good.

Padding short games with difficulty, what's new?
Funny how you're supposed to shoot ducks in the target practice mini-game but not in the following level.
Brief but well-done. Yes vote.

Solid run with attention to the RNG, using lots of unobvious optimizations. Thanks for the commentary! It's funny that something as simple background scrolling affects whether Aokage is faster than Akakage. Yes vote.
