This is hella fun. 1. A guy wants to buy a DVD player/TV/PC/useful electronic device and wants to get the best model, but it's too expensive. He waits for it to get cheaper, and by the time it does there's a new product out that he wants that's too expensive, and the cycle repeats itself. Can you explain the best way to solve this paradox? 2. How many IKEAs are there in Sweden? In Finland? 3. Do you at all mildly regret making this thread? 4. Who are your influences?

Dear Bisqwit: Do you think believing in a heaven or afterlife can mentally soothe a person and make him happy, even if he's a well-educated person who also believes that scientifically, it is completely impossible and when he dies, he'll just rot in the earth forever?

Dear Fabian: 1. If f and g are both even functions, is f+g necessarily even? If both are odd, are their sums necessarily odd? How about if one is even and one is odd? 2. I have this friend named, uh, mr_boberts_z. This friend has been having suicidal thoughs ever since Pluto was demoted to "dwarf planet" (pfft, dwarf planet, his ass). This friend has repeatedly written letters to the International Astronomical Union begging for changes, to no avail. Can you recommend anything to soothe mr_boberts_z's pain? 3. Blu-ray vs HDDVD?

Bestest thread evar, no srsly. Dear Fabian: 1. Do believe in string theory, or do you think it's a load of shit? 2. Is it true that in Sweden, some old woman has a 40 Gb/s internet connection? 3. What is the purpose of life? 4. Do you think C# major sounds different than Db major? Does it depend on the music, or are they exactly the same? Does equal temperament matter? EDIT: 5. Why is this page stretched for no noticable reason?

It beats Mr_Robert_Z's 70 star run by quite some frames. (Unless I can't count)
I guess you can't. Unless by "quite some frames" you mean "minus 1.1 seconds". I downloaded both of our vids, and timed it according to Star Times Competition timing. Mine is 1.168 seconds faster (unless I can't count). Nice try.

That gives me an idea. How about abolishing the poll and instead, rating the submission as publications are rated now?
Is the current yes/meh/no poll for submitted movies kind of super-unofficially a 0%-50%-100% rating, with people who say stuff like "marginal yes vote" kind of going in between those values? Anyway, I think being able to rate movies is a great idea, though the best idea would be able to take back/change a vote; sometimes first impressions are very different than overall views, IMO.

I used to play Rush 2 a lot, and a TAS of it would be cool, but I thought racing games weren't very good for TASing.

Alright I will start today after school. You guys need to teach me how to upload the WIP though. Thanks for all the support. I will try my best to make a great run.
Make absolutely sure you use the TAS Input Plugin, count and beat the previous run's framecounts, and post WIPs very often. If you do that, you should have no problems at all.

Heh, maybe we could bring MIPS into DDD, then swim with him into the area with the sub and swim around until he changes into the second-floor Bowser key but when Mario collects the key the memory address transfers Mario right over to the credits.

Yeah, it's been proven many times that with enough speed, you'll go right through. A 0 star run is absolutely possible with a good enough BLJ.

This is great...a new generation of "SM64 wars", if it ever comes to that. Until a 0 star run is possible (which I'm sure it will be sometime), the shortest run of SM64 can truly be 100% frame perfect. Here's a YES vote, hoping to bring about that perfection with each new run that comes out. Oh, and nice camera angles.

I would like some help. What game should I do?
For N64 games, one word: Input Plugin 0.6 for TAS by Nitsuja.

It seemed a little too unoptimal to replace GuanoBowl's current run. End time gives it a Meh from me.

Yep, I've just finished planning out all 70 stars and the routes that I'll take around the castle. BBH and VCUtM are still out, but more DDD and WDW are in. Basically, no star that I get is over 50 seconds non-TASed, and the vast majority are under 30 seconds.

If you want to email the file to me (PM for address, to avoid spambots), I can upload it to my FileDen account, which is appropriate for uploading .m64 files and has a 50 mb limit. Well done! I respect every author of an N64 run 'cause they're really hard! Cheers, Franklint
Uploading the .m64 to TASVideos itself is required for a submission, and it only allows a 150kb or less zip file.

Question: do you think it's worth it to go into BBH for only two stars?

We were hypothesizing... What if we could get into VCUtM without ever going into the castle? Just somehow BLJ into the loading point or something (it seems that unlike the doors, the loading point is still there, but just covered by a grate. Kind of like the entrance to Wiggler's Cave), and maybe just die from inside there. What would happen after that? Maybe the water would be gone from the moat. We haven't really tested this; using the level select thing doesn't work, but if anyone knows a GS code or something, trying it out would help.

I think some BLJs just give out after a while of BLJing, no matter how hard you try. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBLI0qIoNEE&mode=related&search= As for getting the star for the first BoB star, that was redone. EDIT: I think the reason a BLJless run is better than a completely glitchless run is that BLJ's are unique; it's basically the only glitch that allows you to skip entire levels (and beat the game REALLY early). Like BkDJ said, a completely glitchless run would be too confusing because of what constitutes as a glitch. Killing boos when they're still behind a wall, grabbing Bowser's tail early, and even butt stomping through King Whomp would all be gone...that would make for a pretty bad run, and someone would still find glitches accidentally used that no one even noticed.

To give you an idea of how a normally BLJ'd star would look, here's the optimized first star: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/285481152/Super%20Mario%2064%20-%20New%2070%20Star%20Run%207.m64 Next WIP at 7 stars, I guess.
