We'll try and get whatever star is closest that's already there (eg, that doesn't take a new star animation, since there would've already been two animations in the level)

I would think the best course of action isn't so much concerning yourself with ensuring that the red coins are collected last so that you can get the red coin star. Would it not be in your best interest rather to focus on the path to collect all the coins quickest whether they are red or not and then grabbing the closest/quickest star to obtain. By altering your path to get red coins last I'd think this would take more time.
My thoughts exactly.

Collect 100 coin star, collect the rest of the coins and then collect the red coin star. what's wrong with that?
It would be a little time consuming, since it's pretty much useless; it would fit the pattern a little more, but if another star in the same level will be picked up after it, there's essentially no point.

IF you're going to collect it, WHY don't you collect it AS SOON as it appears????? I really have no idea what you're thinking! ¬¬ I really don't think it'll be faster to avoid the 100 coin star appearace...
Collect what, the 100-coin star? If we did, and then collected the rest and Exited Course, the game would only count 100 coins as being picked up. And there's no way to avoid the 100-coin-star appearence, to my knowledge.

Pretty much. For the Lobby courses: After collecting all coins, we'll collect the nearest star to the final coin UNLESS going back to the 100-coin-star and collecting it is faster than getting the nearest star. We'll take into consideration the time it takes to do the automatic coin counting thing that happens when Mario comes out of the level. We'll also try to avoid getting [non-red-coin-stars, non-100-coin-stars] that aren't already visible when Mario enters the level to avoid the star "creation" sequence.....unless it's also faster. Hopefully that was simple enough.

We still haven't considered the concept demo thing (we're definitely not starting from a save file), but even if we assumed it would be, most of the time it wouldn't work anyway, sinse the star would usually appear nowhere near the final coin. The only courses where that might be possible are JRB and TTC, but even with it being a concept demo, it would still look prety awful to see Mario go all the way back upstairs again if he picked up the TTC 100 coin star.

It can be the 100-coin star if it's the nearest one. Just grab it and exit the course -- your new high score is recorded.
Might work for some of the Lobby courses, but any others and it would take too long to get back to nearer courses.

Yeah, and it would look absolutely horrible waiting for Mario to get the 100 lives.

Thanks! I didn't really expect the run to be published; submitting it was kind of a "what the hell, it couldn't hurt" thing, and I'm already surprised by the number of yes votes. Thanks a lot to everyone for watching, voting (even if it was No or Meh), and critiquing.

Why not just get the red coin stars as well, with exception to the Bowser stages and secret star levels, you should end up with 30 stars overall.
Whether or not we get the red coin stars, we have to get one non-100-coin-star star per level to lock the coin scores into the game. The most likely thing we'll do is get the star nearest to the last coin we pick up.

I remember following a video or two that showed it. the quality was craptacular, but I was able to make out Mario getting them all. and there were like 3-4 videos all accomplishing the same thing, so I presume it's been done. even if it hadn't, that's what a TAS is for, right?
In all its craptacularness.

I see no reason not do it, it would just be fun to see Mario do some acrobatics.
I agree, but then we'd have to get the ghosts outside of BBH to make it even. So to get the ghost and bridge coins, or to...not get the ghost and bridge coins.

As well as every coin in the Secret Courses, since we'd need to go to them for caps and stars anyway. The coins in the Lobby will be collected automatically because of the Lobby Glitch. We're still debating whether to grab the coins under the bridge outside when we go to the Vanish Cap stage.

Well, now that the CCC run has kind of, uh, flunked, we'll (me and Rikku, we've been planning it for a while) just get started on the [fully optimized] Coin run... ...which will probably also be rejected. But still be entertaining. :P Anyway, despite the even thinner support for the Coin run, we'll try to give some updates.

the lobby glitch is not used
The Lobby Glitch can't be used because it automatically makes you collect some coins.

It is...By Rikku's calculation, we could have a 14:55 to 14:59 run by using and optimizing Red Hot Log Rolling, that DDD strat, and my stair glitch.

Holy crap! I'm half way through, but I had to stop. You just BLJ'd to the island in Rainbow Ride. This can now be considered a CCC-less star! Did I miss that in the other thread? I haven't been following it because I finished my non-assisted CCC (and two kinds of CC) quest, so this is huge news to me.
Indeed mr_roberts_z is aware of this trick. :) It was posted long time ago in this or the CCC thread, I cannot remember.
Yep, it's even in the CCC testrun, but don't watch that...it'll make your eyes bleed. This guy found it and posted it on the GameFAQs board only a few days before I decided to start the CCC TAS, IIRC.

Did I hear "timesaver"? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWzZHZnQfco I showed that to Rikku, and he said it could be faster than what's normally used.

Hmm, thinking about platofrms that move up... I know the 120 star run was recently completed and won't be redone for a while, but I'm guessing the blue cap star could be completed a tiny bit faster?
Nah, there's not much you can do on the elevators; you can BLJ, but it doesn't do much.

It could've. *slams head against table*

Also I think it's debatable to use this star instead of Hot-foot now in the 16-star.
Almost definitely; the platform where Mario triple jumped is almost ridiculously close to the start of the level and could be probably made in four LJs.

In the CCC run, B1 is long over, but I'll try it out in B3 and attempt it in the Coin run. It's a nice idea, though.

Thanks for the feed, guys. I have a question...assuming the rest of the run would be similar to that WIP, would anyone still support the run? It's pretty clear that there definitely aren't as many new routes as was expected. I could make wildly different routes, but they'd all be a lot slower than the fastest known ones that I'm using. I'll finish the run no matter what, but I'd just like to know if it still has the same chances of being published as it did when it was first suggested.
