I have Super Mario Bros. 6 times: Standalone NES cart, Duck Hunt/SMB combo cart, SMB/Duck Hunt/Track & Field combo cart, Super Mario Bros. DX, Super Mario All-Stars, and Wii VC. I also have 3 The Legend of Zeldas: NES cart, GC Collector's Edition, and Wii VC.

I just redid the level, and I was able to get past the chargin' chuck in realtime by spin jumping on his "edge" and then riding him until he dies. I did it a couple of times to make sure it wasn't some insane fluke.

Just as you replied I figured out that first bit. Tons of thanks for those. The patches have been updated.

I've made a couple of SMB3 hacks that follow the same general concept as Kaizo Mario World. I discourage the use of savestates while playing, but a finite number of lives presents a problem, as there isn't a save function in SMB3 like there is in SMW. My initial solution was to put a 1-up at the beginning of every stage, but that's a bit contrived and seems kind of sloppy. Then I tried to find out how to include an infinite lives cheat in an ips patch, but then I came up with a more fun idea: infinite lives with a death counter. My idea on how to implement this is to start the player off with 0 lives, and instead of the lives counter decrementing by 1 when the player dies, it increments by 1, effectively acting as a death counter while never allowing for a game over. The problem is that I have no idea how to do this, and I haven't been able to find any resources on any aspect of what I want to do. Here are my hacks: http://thepowerofsneeze.com/marioisdead.html http://thepowerofsneeze.com/marioisstilldead.html If anyone can give me a hand in either implementing this idea or pointing out resources that may help me, I'd really appreciate it.

no either it's easier to tap A for one frame than you think or there's something more to it hell, the original "asshole mario 2" video was done without savestates

yeah, the packaging was mainly for dependency management, but the binaries themselves are pretty good at whining when SDL is missing or something.

I fail at making proper packages, so I've removed the debs. The tgz's should work fine, though, and I updated the FCEU one to include DeHackEd's stream-dumping .16 version (for encoding purposes). I'll try to get VBA, Dega and Mupen up as soon as possible along with some documentation, perhaps.

23 is the kill screen in the arcade version. if you get past it (through cheats or some other method), the game continues normally. there is no kill screen in the NES version. I've actually gotten to the point where the level box began displaying commas.

I used to make IDM, and only one out of the many "records" I produced could be called half-decent. nowadays I just mess around with samples and make weird loops when I'm bored.

This same principle could apply with Wii's Virtual Console and the classic controller.
it doesn't. I've tried.

damage while in pipes, damage after the flagpole
yeah, I tried as hard as I could to show these, but the level design prevented me from doing so. I think that's the worst part about it; it's not the lack of infinite jumps holding me back, it's just the level design. actually, now that I think about it, I could still show off damage after the flagpole in 1-2 if I go OOB before I have to take damage, like in the last version. problem is, I suck at hex editing and I doubt I want to do a whole other version just for that. anyways, I'm glad you liked it enough to elicit a meh (regardless of what you actually voted).

running over the top of the ceiling
I didn't do this very much at all, and when I did, it was skipping an insignificant part of the level. The vast majority of the game I completed.
ignoring the intent of the puzzles (e.g. 100 coins)
I think when most of the given solutions require moving through walls then the 100 coins goal is out. I'd like to think U1 is smarter than to unintentionally allow enough invincibility time to get through the wall at the end.

okay, seriously, what significant portion of the game, other than the beginning of 4-3, did I skip?

I happen to like the concept of using an old game engine's glitches to create a meticulously designed puzzle game. Instead of merely using tool assistance to take advantage of a game that assumes that human skills are at play, these types of hacks are designed around the very idea of tool-assistance and require it to succeed. It's a "genre" that's very exciting to me. By the way, thanks for watching and commenting, everyone. Also much thanks to S@G for the video.

I interpreted "another run" as "a run alongside the current one". Sorry.

I dont really see the point in publishing another run of air.
Well, if you would read the submission text you'd know that that's not what I'm trying to do.
Games don't usually get un-published here, though, so if we have an improvement on a game that's already been published, then we may as well publish it.
Bionic Commando obsoleted Hitler no Fukkatsu, and for all I know those two had more changes between them than Air and Air 2. Also, the run that was on my YouTube channel is NOT this submission; I've removed it so there's not any confusion.

Conglomothreads tend to be nothing but link archives
Even worse, as link archive threads grow and get older, many of the links on the first pages end up broken and more often than not, people don't care about rediscovering them.
