Because it was programmed to do that, probably.

I say go for it; this sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I'm more interested in the "reinvent the plot" aspect of it, and regarding that, I think a Japanese-only RPG could be much better for this. (I've never really been a follower of any "Let's Play" before, though, since they pretty often use rare words or expressions (such as "DONGS" :P) which most non-native English speakers can't understand.)

Nothing to see here: wasted shots, unnecessary deaths, beginner difficulty, etc. The same troll as before. New hints: he can hex edit movie files and he uses my shitty FBA version. I'll let you fill in the blank spaces: n_____.

No, that may be because of this too:

That's probably the biggest hurdle. I am very, very big on release early, release often. And indeed I have no desire to maintain backward-compatibility at the expense of progress.
I don't think that requirement is valid anymore. Most TASes these days are made with version SVNr217 of an emulator, for example. We even have an arcade emulator now, which breaks most backward-compatibility with each new version (and they get released very often too :P).

Well, my license is what it is. You can do whatever you want with it, just don't distribute your modifications without checking with me.
That requirement was written long ago by the site creator, who in his last days as an admin was open to accept pSX too (which is closed-source).
byuusan wrote:

Reaaaally not interested in that.
We have three or four accepted emulators that don't even have AVI recording in Windows, so you shouldn't worry about that. :P

New version: pcsx-rr-v010.7z. This is mostly the same as the build that was posted in the MGS thread with a disc-switching fix. It also has a couple of major bug fixes by ume.drink, so it is a recommended upgrade.

It is in the case of FBA. PCSX compiles in a few seconds. :P I have exactly the same system as creaothceann, except I have 256 MB of RAM instead of 512. Unfortunately, I don't currently have money to buy another computer; I was only able to buy this one because I received a scholarship some years ago.

I'm not really too sure how to go about it and what features you guys want. If anyone wants to work with me, I'd be happy to lend a hand and get it up and running. Otherwise, expect slow goings, but I'll probably start on basic movie recording+playback support first, and we can go from there.
You can see these articles to get an idea: Emulator Resources / Requirements and Desired features of a rerecording emulator. We're not so strict with the requirements anymore, though. I'd gladly help you with this, but, besides having a shitty computer, I also don't know much about C++ (don't let my "Coder" title fool you, I only got into programming a year ago as an accident). If you only need feedback, you can get a lot of it on these forums; people are TASing all the time. :o)

That alone will probably make most people here to start using your emulator right away. :P

I hope people won't abandon Snes9x for bsnes, because I won't be able to directly watch input files anymore. I hardly get 25 fps running Super Mario World on bsnes. :P By the way, I just saw byuu writing this on his forums:
So far, I get about 1,600 downloads a release, so probably about a 2-5% market share. Which is way more than I ever anticipated :)
If you would like to see a relatively big boost of your user base size, you have to add TAS features: my crappy version of PCSX (PCSX-RR v0.0.9) got ~3000 downloads, and that emulator is not even half as popular as Snes9x is here. :o)

Ah, you're right. It's just that I had set my ISO path in the preferences dialog, so PCSX wouldn't ask me to choose an ISO later, every time I try to start a movie. Well, I won't modify anything then... (Also, I'll stop spamming this thread now. :P)

Agreed, they are completely useless. There are much more entertaining "one-track" movies in YouTube, and lots of them too. I wouldn't like to see the other movies go away (except for those made by Phil which were also automatically accepted by him :P; maybe those should be re-judged now).

I also had crashes there before, but since I couldn't reproduce them later, I forgot about them... Hopefully this build fixes that: multi-disc-test2-pcsx.7z. Please, let me know if it works. Also, you *have* to use the drive plugin, since I think you can't switch discs with the current ISO plugin. :P

That's right. That would take a lot more of time, which I don't really would like to spend with this... Thanks for testing; if no one comes up until tomorrow to say that this didn't work for him, I'll pack this version up with plugins and release it as the official v0.1.0. I don't want to have this on my mind anymore. :D

multi-disc-test2-pcsx.7z I made some changes: -disc-switching functionality doesn't depend on CDR plugins anymore. -CDR plugin is automatically closed and then opened after switching discs; hopefully this forces a reload of the CD ID. I've made several tests, and every one of them worked fine. But experience has shown me that what works for me may not always work for others, so I'd really appreciate if anyone else could test it too. I made a short movie for anyone who wants to test it and give me some feedback about the new changes: multi-disc-test-movie.7z (I just would like to know if the movie continues after the disc-switch screen and into disc 2 :P).

Same here. The newest link which should give a 949.07 KB file, gives me instead a 858.31 KB file, which coincidentally is the same one as the older wip file. =/ So, if anyone can upload that 949.07 KB file to somewhere else, such as Rapidshare, I'd be very grateful. I'd like to make some tests with PCSX and disc switching.

I think Bisqwit was worried about some hacks not being so available in the future, or not working correctly in the more accurate emulators of the future. That may also be the reason he didn't allow fan translations.

Judging by some of the descriptions given, perhaps what people want are Tool-Assisted Longplays:
Wikipedia wrote:
A longplay is a play-through of a computer or video game, created with the intent of completing it as fully as possible, mainly for the purposes of nostalgia, preservation, and possibly as a walkthrough. Unlike hectic speedruns, there is no time constraint aside from those imposed by bandwidth/filesize concerns. The defining characteristic of a longplay is that few shortcuts, if any, are taken to finish the game. Dull moments may be ultimately edited out of the final video, and sidequests may be ignored, but in general every task necessary to reach the end is to be recorded, including cutscenes.
If someone starts a TALVideos website, count me in too. :P

It seems some (most?) people here are more interested in entertainment-oriented movies than just speed-oriented movies, so I don't think it'd be a bad idea to have this stuff on TASVideos.org. (We still should have the speed-oriented versions, since most TASers here only care about shaving frames on old movies.)

There is no need to be "objective" about this; just let the majority vote on what they think is the more entertaining one. --- Example: someone makes a new Turok movie where one could see what's happening and he kills some dinosaurs too; this would appear on the workbench: Vote: Do you think this one is more entertaining than the currently published movie of this game? There is support for Michael Jackson's Moonwalker in the newer versions of FBA. The list on the first post is from five years ago, don't pay attention to it. :P You can find an updated list just by running the emulator and selecting "Load game..."

What list are you referring to? Fortunately, FBA does support it (and in its full three-simultaneous-Michael-Jacksons glory): The game's full name is "Michael Jackson's Moonwalker". EDIT: Oh, I see what list now... Well, that list was written in 2004; there's been some hundreds of new games added since then.
