sorry warmCabin. I got distracted and forgot that you requested my inputs. Here is what I was able to accomplish, but I'm sure more can be found. https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/638262741355748864

This is a temp encode of the work that includes the floor clipping glitch. Sorry about the aspect ratio. Link to video I did one last run through, which cut 42 frames from movement optimization.

I don't think so...unless I can figure out how to stop one "back-tracking route". The problem is, I don't have "Hi-Jump". It seems that I need it in order to perform this glitch.

Yeah...unfortunately, I'm beginning to scrap the bottom for more from the series. Not all of these games are great...so I am choosing which ones would be best represented by a TAS. There are some that are taking a long time to finish, but they will be worth it.

To anyone taking this submission on for judgement, please note that since my glitch discovery...Darkman425 has notified me that a map exists for this game. I'm going to scan this and try some re-routing. I shouldn't be more than a day on any improvements.

warmCabin...my first run-through of the the first level is showing signs of not being optimal. In this case, since the game is so short running...it stands to be rejected for optimization issues. I know these Action 52 games present themselves as a simple platformer, but because of the horrible mechanics...there are cuts to be exploited. I have cut 22 frames off, just playing around with a few spots, on the first area. If I were to give this a hard go...there definitely can be more. Not sure how you want to proceed...but I am extending a chance for you to clean up these inputs. i would rather get this fixed, than have you redo a submission.

Alright, I was thinking on DrD2k9's question and I finally figured something out. This led to me thinking of another route, and it paid off. 728 frames have been cut and a new encode has been provided.

Watching the first few minutes and skipping to the end.... Wow...I didn't realize that after completing 99 levels, it would actually give a confirmation screen. I had thought about doing this TAS years ago, but I didn't feel like going through an almost 2 hour ordeal. I noticed one technique that you are doing that I never thought of...jumping backwards on the ropes. Quite clever. I applaud you. Yes vote.

Well, I couldn't stop searching and I finally figured out how the magazine merged with Compute!. The "Compute's Gazette" was placed within Compute! as an insert. So, there is separate numbering system and it shows a "G-##". Now that I have the article, I see some information that I couldn't figure out. I might have to supply an updated movie file, if my theory works...but for now, Enjoy! Oh, submission was updated with a link to the article.

Yeah, I was trying the find the frame where the game accepted the first input. It didn't make sense. Bowling gave me a better visual queue. At first, I was hoping to buffer all the inputs and let it just ride out, but that didn't work. :(

There are a few things that I'm directly noticing. The game is an autoscroller, until the boss fights. Because of this, some techniques are not being fully utilized. In addition, there are concerns brought up by [user|CoolHandMike] that could also be further discussed. I would like to see a few more comments, since I am on the fence about this one.

I was hoping to see if there was more to the map, but I couldn't get it to show past that big block area. Seems like that was the end of the road. I tried on an earlier part and was able to push the character to different parts of the layout. I'm not surprised...Action 52 has been such a horrible release.

Perhaps I can get a second opinion on this. I found the locations for the placement of the main character on the map. 0x317 X - Low byte. 0x38D X - High byte. If I have this right, its using Little-Endian. Because they are separated within memory, i can't combine them with the tools given. So you'll have to modify both locations to see if you can push it beyond that impassable location.

So my question is...does your run intend to obsolete or is this another category?
I think you should leave that one be and not have this obsolete it instead accept this to a different category. There are some differences to take into consideration and both of these pages might need updating. 1. There are three main paths in this game and each offers different abilities with 7 unique bosses, different side powerups, and routing opportunities. I intend to in the future at least go through that tas with the route "Search For Wily" you linked since I think there are some good time saves to be found there. 2. My submission is on Normal while in the linked submission it was stated to be on the hardest (Very Hard I guess). In Bizhawk I noticed there are no dipswitches for the difficulties so I left it be. In the piano roll there is a button "S" I believe which brings you to a select menu to manually select the difficulty. I found the menu to be kind of slow and jarring and once you finish the game restarts, this felt like a waste of time since I by the time I was done with changing the difficulty a boss would already have been defeated with no real differences. 3. There is one difference with the difficulties "4 Very Hard - Phase 2 Animation Trigger in Round 1" and that is with the "Phase 2" Danger mode or whatever activation cutscene. On normal it just activated two rounds later. So...that would be like 4 extra seconds about between Normal and Very Hard? Other than that I am not completely convinced there would be any significant differences between the difficulties for a TAS considering you can through delays or through position changes manipulate the enemy AI to select moves in any case. As far I could tell casually playing the game the enemies seem slightly more aggressive on higher difficulties, but that is all I noticed. When they die in seconds it does not really matter that much probably. At this point in time I am not going to go through and give it an exhaustive comparison. But...while saying that it might be worthwhile to tag these with the difficulties? I do not know. If you want to look at the different routes look at the current leaderboards here: https://www.speedrun.com/mega_man_2_the_power_fighters?h=Solo-Search_for_Wily-2_Normal&x=zd38oynk-38djwk08.zqo3wp4q-ql6r6x7l.ln84g86l
Thanks.

I'm going to second that statement from Spikestuff. I immediately noticed a problem in stage 1-2 at the beginning. Taking that much time to go to the top of the screen is much slower than continuing through the normal area. Also, getting the mushroom in this stage is slower. If you are going to do so, you need to get one that reduced the time for backtracking. I stopped analyzing after that stage, since this TAS is already showing significant optimization issues.
