very nice work, sami question though: why the long pause after getting the jinjo jiggy towards the end? i know you didn't want to surface too early and have banjo do his set of bows (for getting all 10 jiggies) but it seemed like you were down there awhile

E doesn't seem too hard to be harvested; i would imagine you can manipulate 5E drops from every enemy with only a bit of tweaking, as it's random and not totally uncommon to get a few 5E pickups even in a casual run-through - am i correct?

Glad to see someone addressed it - I'm not sure why I never saw this on youtube, I guess I didn't search for it; assuming that I would find a topic here. I feel like an idiot to admit the fact that I didn't even realize bombs existed in the flying mode...but I enjoy the silly navigating in the speed-up part. Hope you feel like finishing it!

I just picked this up on cartridge awhile ago and have been enjoying it... Anyone up for it? It's somewhat similar to Milon's secret castle in the way that you get powerups, spend money, find secret doors, etc...but more of a shooter/side scroller

im'd me for whatever reason as i might as well throw this on the drama pile krohn7master: Hello onReload: hi krohn7master: I find your response hilarious krohn7master: "He also failed to address SL's suggestion about playing pre-made footage (i.e. gameshark/tas'd stuff that he TV-out'd to his TV.) We don't hear the insane tapping of the A button and we certainly don't see it." krohn7master: Did you even watch the video krohn7master: ? onReload: yeah onReload: you're driven to prove this but it doesn't even make any sense, you haven't done the basic thing which is to first walk into the water, have mario swim ,then do your little trick and have him walk underwater onReload: you showed that you were using a 3rd party controller and you left the camera on it for about half a second if even that much onReload: nothing showed it was autofire onReload: and i don't care onReload: because you still have to prove something onReload: and you haven't onReload: which is what i already typed krohn7master: What is it that I have to prove? krohn7master: I've already proved everything I can onReload: first walk into the water, have mario swim ,then do your little trick and have him walk underwater...but even then you could still have a code activated on the fly, and no you have not proven everything, you haven't shown anybody an m64 file onReload: which shows inputs and other details krohn7master: The thing is it that, there is no way I could ever pull off the walking under water trick again krohn7master: That happened out of nowhere krohn7master: and I have tried it over and over, and it never works krohn7master: I would of done that by now, but I can't. onReload: what about people talking about your walking on slopes? onReload: like walking down a slope that would normally have you slide right off krohn7master: So..what? I need to make a proof video of me doing those? onReload: no because again there's always a possibility that you're not using a clean method onReload: which is why the m64 has been brought up again and again krohn7master: yeah onReload: standing on a slope the way you did should be a lot easier than flying into the water without swimming krohn7master: I would happily make the m64' onReload: uh huh krohn7master: but i am having problems onReload: yeah onReload: and the triforce is in ocarina of time onReload: if you learn the 8th sages' song krohn7master: lol krohn7master: of course krohn7master: Hahaha krohn7master: Thats like saying the sky is green or something onReload: yes it is krohn7master: I've never even played OoT and I still know all those rumors are fake onReload: that's my point onReload: it's as fake as your trouble with mupen and walking on slopes and going underwater onReload: so just go to school krohn7master: I'm in school right now :P krohn7master: it kind of reminds me of that rumor where Mew is under the truck in those original pokemon games onReload: yeah onReload: the triforce rumor was a big big thing on internet forums back when ocarina was out onReload: the girl got email spammed to her even after admitting that it was fake krohn7master: I don't get why it's such a big deal, its a freakin video game onReload: you kind of fueled the argument krohn7master: Anyways krohn7master: I know you guys want an m64 krohn7master: and I will get it as soon as I can krohn7master: I won't lie.. krohn7master: But what I don't understand is why people think the proof video I made is fake too onReload: watch some of the youtube links one guy posted onReload: faking shit is really easy onReload: and you could have a modded n64 or cart with a gameshark hardware in it or all kinds of things krohn7master: Oh what the hell? Are you serious, dude. krohn7master: DO you really think I'd take something like this THAT far it went on

So this kid can't even figure out Mupen64 but he can BLJ by hand consistently? Right-o. But yeah if Mr. "I don't sit around making mario movies" (which...he does) wants to prove himself, I think he has to walk into the water swimming, then do his made-up bullshit to get into the water walking. This is not going to happen though and one thing I was going to say was that he doesn't seem to understand that one doesn't need a cart-on-cart setup to have a GS working on the SM64 cartridge... He also failed to address SL's suggestion about playing pre-made footage (i.e. gameshark/tas'd stuff that he TV-out'd to his TV.) We don't hear the insane tapping of the A button and we certainly don't see it. So, anyway...

Technically you could skip all that with RBA, and then you'd just have to get into Ganondorf's castle, right? Now that would be a cool run to watch, were it only doable.
You could if you could get the broken Goron sword as a kid (it points to the medallions, if you didn't already know). No known way of doing this at the moment, though.
Huh? "Points to the medallions"?

inichi, I'm watching your setup movie and I'm having a hard time following how you're able to skip bosses. A couple of them, like the Guardian and Nizbel 2, are skipped through what looks like multiple trips into the menu to avoid triggering them. Others, like the Mud Imp, seem to be using a bug I missed you setting up that lets you save anywhere. Can we get a little bit of clarification, please?

I've found that "Save anywhere trick" on GameFAQs is also available with the pause menu abuse. For those who doesn't know what Save anywhere trick is, it is a trick to allow you to save the game literally anywhere. And the effect never disappears unless you enter a room with a savepoint. In Chrono Trigger, an event check point has usually only 16 pixels wide. That means you can skip some unavoidable cutscenes and battles if you manage to go beyond a check point and save the game before you lose control. Here are all the result I got: Yakra skip Heckran skip Zombor skip v2 & Tata skip
I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're skipping here...I haven't played the game in a few months, but are you simply able to reload the game at certain points?

I have no idea if this helps at all, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yfugo15RU9M It's a guy doing the game on Expert, and he shows (around 13:30 I think) how on a certain planet, Miyu will turn into Fox...which is odd. Now, he says it saved him from dying against Andross, so I doubt that will matter for a TAS as you probably want more damage/speed for bosses rather than defense - unless it's easier to take loads of damage, but I'm not that familiar with the game. Just thought I'd point it out, in case someone can use it.

>spezzfer Amulet is really important equip. So I don't know whether it's faster or not. I found a new strategy. Mario equip 'Jump Shoes' ,Mario can knock down Belome fast. But I don't test yet.
That depends on which Belome you're talking about...If you mean Belome at Land's End, then... The problem with that new strategy is that you use "vs. Belome" to do 100 jumps, right? Well, if you're using Jump Shoes, your 100 Jumps don't count for the Super Suit at Monstro Town. So, you would have do 100 jumps with the shoes off on a different Boss.

Your English isn't as bad as you think it is, the txt. is fairly readable, but I cleaned up for you because...well I like doing it for some reason. Also, I assumed Mad Armor = Mad Adder.
This run beats the previous one by about 5 minutes. I used Snes9x v1.43+ v12 beta10. Tricks & Glitches Mario's Jump Attack (special) The more he uses his special attack "Jump", the stronger it becomes (the limit +85, as I recall.) Untimed Defense Not timing defense saves a few frames, but it doesn't always work. Skip a Terrapin's Attack (Thanks spezzafer) Move the cursor and kill a different Terrapin. Mario isn't attacked this way. Mack skip (Thanks Hakusekirei & ITK) Jump on one of the bodyguards and you can skip Mack's battle. Skip Heavy Troopa(Thanks Spezzfer) In Nimbus Land, you can skip Heavy Troopa twice. Differences Bowser's Keep Vs. Terrapins changed. I skipped one of their attack turns. 129 frames saved.(Total 129) Mushroom Way I optimized vs. Hammer Bros. 6 frames saved.(136) Mushroom Kingdom (First time) Unchanged. Lost one frame, not sure why. 1 frame slower.(135) Bandit's way Optimized movement. I gained 19 exp. in the second to last area in order to get Mario to Lvl. 5 before Croco. And I lost 1 flower. 8 frames slower.(127) Mushroom Kingdom (second time) I used the Mack skip glitch. I changed it a bit. So, I lost 12 exp. 12054 frames saved. (12181) Kero Sewers I optimized movement. Got 1 flower, but I slowed down the fight with Belome, because Mario's attack is weak here. He only does 45~49 damage. (51~54 in spezzafer's movie) 950 frames slower.(11231) EMidas River I only got 60 coins, so that the following message and sound don't appear. "I'll hold your x(1~10) extra coin(s)." 68 frames saved.(11299) Tadpole Pond (first time) I optimized movement. 4 frames saved.(11303) Rose Way I optimized movement. I skipped a flower. 253 frames saved.(11556) Rose Town Skipped 3 flowers. Sorry, but I messed up the Inn's route. I answered Gaz's question, "No". This skips a message and jump action. 292 frames saved.(11848) Forest Maze I didn't get 2 Kerokerocolas. Slower on Bowyer for the same reason as Belome. 97 frames saved.(11945) Moleville I sold an extra Kerokerocola, and I bought an extra set of Work Pants. I optimized the Croco fight. I gained 50 exp. in the third to last area, in order to get Mario to Lvl. 9 before Yaridovich. Lost time on the Punchinello fight for the Bob-omb. I optimized the mine cart ride. 496 frames saved.(12441) Booster pass I optimized movement. 6 frames saved.(12447) Booster Tower I optimized movement. I didn't use the Lucky Jewel on Knife Guy. This can skip Knife Guy's attack. Mario and Mallow's level up screen doesn't appear. 1623 frames saved.(14070) Booster Hill I optimized movement. Got 15 flowers. No real reason for this. 1 frames saved.(14071) Marrymore I optimized movement. I used Lucky Jewel against Bundt. This can skip Bundt's attack twice. Mario and Mallow's level up screen appears. 352 frames slower.(13719) Mushroom Kingdom (third time) I optimized movement. 30 frames saved.(13749) Tadpole Pond (second time) Unchanged. 0 frame save(slower).(13749) Star Hill I optimized movement. 23 frames saved.(13772) Seaside Town (first time) I optimized movement. 3 frames saved.(13775) Sea I optimized movement. 28 frames saved.(13803) Sunken ship I optimized movement, and the battles with Tentacles, Pirates and Johnny. I skipped Johnny's attack once. 368 frames saved.(14171) Seaside Town (second time) I optimized movement, and equipping. Geno equipped Amulet. This enables Geno to stand Yaridovich's attack once without guarding, and I skipped his attack once. I only sold a Flower Jar. 223 frames saved.(14394) Land's End (first time) I optimized movement. I changed Geno to Peach before fighting the Shoguns, because Mario is faster than Peach, so I could skip using Defense. I also used Lucky Jewel twice instead of using the Hammer. 361 frames saved.(14755) Monstro Town I optimized movement. 2 frames saved.(14757) Land's End (second time) I optimized movement. 3 frames saved.(14760) Bean Valley I optimized movement. Smilax only uses normal attacks. 72 frames saved.(14832) Nimbus Land (first time) I optimized movement, and the battles with Birdo and Valentina. With Valentina, Bowser didn't use a timed attack. Skipped a Heavy Troopa fight. 1435 frames saved.(16257) Barrel Volcano I optimized movement, normal enemy fights, the Czar Dragon and Zombone fights, and the Axem Rangers fight. Against the Axem Rangers Mario didn't time an attack on Axem Red. I gained 121 Exp. using a star in order to get Mario to level 15. 243 frames saved.(16500) Nimbus Land (second time) I optimized movement. I changed the route for riding the royal bus. 317 frames saved.(16817) Bowser's Keep (second time) I optimized movement, and the fight with Magikoopa. 211 frames saved in the 6 doors. 276 frames saved.(17093) Gate I optimized movement, but I was delayed about 2 seconds by enemies. In the fight with Mad Adder Bowser didn't use a timed attack. I skipped opening the equip menu before Gunyolk and Factory Chief, because Bowser didn't need to be at level 17. In the first Smithy battle, I used two Rock Candies, an Ice Bomb, and Geno attacked with Double Punch. In the second battle, he didn't get to transform into the Magic Head. 835 frames saved. What little things have you changed? Or, (anyone can tell me) what little things have been changed since the last run? I watched the last .smv you posted, and it's quite good - but I'm wondering how much has changed since I don't fully remember the old run (I know it's here on the site but I can't contrast and compare two large videos etc). Were there any large time-savers besides skipping Mack?

Good thing this is a thread about fun GBA runs...?
jeez, the guy was just trying to give an alternative idea for a 2-player mario world run. though this topic is already kind of...demanding, has anybody given thought to Super Widget or HyperZone? Those are two games I liked as a kid that most people don't know of - HyperZone is mostly a rail shooter though, so the only speedrunning part would be boss battles, I guess. Super Widget is a platformer with surprisingly good music, and is much better than its NES prequel (or so I think)...which already has a TAS on the site.

Super Mario RPG - Legend of the Seven Stars (U) [!].smc Should it not have the [!]? I don't know all that much about rom notation, but when using the snes9x (improved version) it says "wrong file format" as I try to load the movie...guessing it's a different version.

Also, the way Spezzafer's run currently stands, the Mack battle (from the first dialog to talking with the Chancellor) is something like 3 minutes 24 seconds. A run with skipping Mack would be very interesting, and you might be able to simply make up for his Exp. by fighting more monsters in Mushroom/Bandit's way - if one were to use Jump, it might make Croco a bit faster (the Hammer Bros. are already fast enough without a lot of effort. Someone calculated it, right? - 12 earlier Jumps just to defeat them in one hit each?). Also, if someone could get EXACTLY the same Exp. from other enemies as they would from Mack, they wouldn't have to redo the rest of the run...but hey, this run's a bit old now, isn't it? ;)

The spinning thing is a detail they added to coincide with Super Mario World -- there, spin-jumps would allow you jump on and damage enemies that you couldn't with a normal jump. With the jump shoes on, Mario spins during all 3 of his jump specials. Note that Super Jumps done while the Jump Shoes are equipped will not count towards getting the Attack Scarf/Super Suit in Monstro Town (marshmallow found this out midway through his unassisted console speedrun). The thing with using a single, massive Super Jump is that the animation takes a long time. Every 8 bounces increases the base damage (0 bounces) by 100% -- in the same time, even considering the enemy attacking, you could get off several regular attacks that would probably end up doing more damage.
Ahh, I never thought about the SMW connection. Interesting. Also, glad to know they won't count towards the record. Not that I'm trying it that way. Also, when all bosses/minibosses are conquered (only Smithy and machine-made left), what enemy is the best to Super Jump on? I love doing it on the Monster-in-a-Box types, but I'm all out of those attempts.
