I think there's enough TAS of MKII on the GB for now...I would like to see how ugly/broken the other MK handhelds can get, though, so the Deadly Alliance run sounds intriguing.
I think this is the best TAS you've done yet, it had constant action (which is something I didn't like about your other TASes, where we would have to wait for 2P to join), and you used things not usually seen in MK runs, like when the new player has to join in. Some of the combos surprised me as well, and of course, Shang Tsung morph combos are fantastic. Good job
I did watch the video, and I feel that people (who know the game even a little bit) would still be confused as to how he knows certain songs, gets the bridge to form, why he keeps dumping and recatching bugs, etc...a lot of the text shown is "you got ___" and then the credits, of course, which aren't part of the gameplay.
I would imagine that even if Swordless Link and co. decide to make their super-optimized version on the (J) ROM, many people will still vote for it, on account of it being a lot faster and more optimized...even if using a Japanese ROM is frowned upon.
I personally would vote yes, anyway. I just wouldn't expect everyone to vote yes to all Japanese submissions in the future. Personally I have nothing against using them, but when the difference is negligible for a newly TASed game, then using a more widely-spoken language, game title, etc. makes sense.
The argument about not knowing what's going on is absurd, by the way. English is my first language and I have no idea what's going on in most of the videos on this site.
Because I don't usually watch .smv files, I'm kind of out the loop, so I'm sorry to ask again - which version of snes9x are you using? And it's the (U) version of the game?
Thanks, really entertaining, not sure why I didn't just search for that before. Shame it can't be maxed over 99 points...My best (unassisted) I think rests in the 40s, and I can't do multiple bounces in one jump.
was0x: How do you plan on getting enough Frog Coins for all of Frogfucius' disciple's items like See Ya!, Earlier Times, EXP Booster, etc...?
I'm still very excited for this run.
Sorry for double post.
My run is published, so I'm planning to 100% run.
The list I'll do. The number in parenthesis is I don't decide to do.
1 Unlock all menu and place.(menu : Star Piece and Game , place : Yo'ster Isle and Grate Guy's Casino)
2 Collect all item and equip which you can get only once.
3 Open or hit once all treasure box.(include hidden treasure box)
(4) Max All character's LV and FP.(not include Coin and Frog Coin)
I won't do most of minigame.(Beetle Mania , Goomba Thumping in Pipe Vault etc...)
Is there any opinion?
Thanks.
I love the idea, but why no "Beetle Mania" or Grate Guy? You need Grate Guy's Casino for the Star Egg, anyway, plus you can max out Frog Coins (99).
Also I'd love to see a good TAS of Goomba Thumping or Yoshi Racing - unless the Yoshi Racing isn't very entertaining, then nevermind - but I forget, are there other ways to get Yoshi Cookies?
Also, to the above poster ^^: I think he means all items and equippables, separately.
Will you beat Culex and Smithy at Max. Lvl? Would be fun to use Luck manipulation + big attack power, right?
Time to post new videos
Gourmet Race #1 [19.12]is perfect (or not?)Gourmet Race #2 [29.69] has been bested by WaddleDX (29.52),
might be improvable by even moreGourmet Race #3 [31.84]might be improvable by ~0.1 second or more, by using backwards hovering in the beginning (which is faster than using a normal hover, see WaddleDX' Gourmet Race #2 video about the discovery of this trick) and better optimization.Meta Knightmare Ultra, Spring Breeze (1:49.00)I made enemies spawn several times to gain their power points quickly. This, however, might have taken too long... And Kracko Jr. should be instant-killed, instead of MrFrosty.
The True Arena, without an ability (7:15.74)
I came up with this idea since I was wondering how interesting this hard mode might look like when TASed with a weak ability. Then I chose to take no ability at all. The stone hand boss can be killed faster, but it requires to refill the HP, and I didn't want to do that.Helper To Hero, Sword Knight (4:12.19)Hmm, not much to say here. I was simply inspired by Sword Knight's moves so I did this TAS.
you kinda screwed up the second URL there, but amazing job on those TASes
Actually, I tested that glitch a bit a long time ago, and you cannot jump infinitey (sp?), only like 255 times.
Just wanted to say that =P
Hahaha, good find...and so it would only be useful for a few rooms (up to 255 jumps, of course) and with the flying bat soul...so it might be fun in a "100% souls run" but still not for speed...
"Find the room with the Draghinazzo then double jump, activate Bat Company and fly on the ledge shown above. Slide along the floor and keep pressing jump as fast as you can. This will make Soma do double jump over and over again until you touch the floor. If you don't double jump before activating Bat Company this won't work!"

Maybe I do this one too...I need to think about it =) I can imagine the routeplanning and its a nightmare...lot more complex tha kazooie...
And no cheats! If I do this, i wont use any cheats =)
That would be amazing, Sami...and yeah I don't even do much with TAS, but just trying to imagine a route gives me a headache...then again I only 100%'d the game, I don't remember the minimal requirements... unless you're going for 100%, which would be a looooooooooong movie...it was fine with BK because it's such a classic but BT isn't as much...
but an any% would still kick ass
I can't imagine actually integrating linking into a TAS like this without it breaking the pace horrifically...Personally I think getting all 3 medallions on all 24 levels (red coins, score, yoshi egg) is complete enough, and would make for a very entertaining TAS.
Well, as far as 100% goes, to get the Toad Medal, you need to fill up the Challenge Meter, which would include going above and beyond the minimum high score - this would probably only mean that a few levels would need repeating, as I think the skills of a TAS would generally put the score wayy up there.
Then again, there are some hard to do/impossible things for a TAS, if you want all the medals/pictures - like trading high scores with another player or playing Vs. mode.
Glad to see some TASing done here, though...I love this game.
So, because I don't want to create a new topic (with what is pretty much a request); has anyone thought of doing a TAS of the challenge levels? Where you have to get a certain high score, 5 red coins, and a hidden yoshi egg? Even though I can almost max out the score meter on the bottom of the stage select screen, nothing is perfect until it is TASd, you know?
Wow, this is a nice surprise. I'm watching it now.
Could you post your notes/methods/thoughts, etc. please? Even if you haven't translated them yet, I'll try to read them in Japanese (if you've written any)
I really like this run - entertaining with different supers, and combos, as well as predicting the air recoveries. Also the whiffed air throws are fun to fill time with.
I don't know if glitches are really that necessary with this run. The kattobi stuff, while interesting looking and such, won't save time and is probably more for a straight tech/entertainment run. A-Ism is well-suited for his purpose here, and we get to see Supers, which everybody loves and recognizes. It would be boring to watch him do a V-Ism combo, then crouch cancel infinite his way to a victory...Plus, with the ability to know when the CPU is going to air recover, juggles go on for pretty long anyway. A-Groove on CVS2 is much more interesting if you ask me...I dunno, I just feel that A-Ism is more old school, which fits with the rest of TASVideos, and is also pretty damn fast.
Oddly enough, I agree with everybody in the the thread on this run.
Watching it wasn't that entertaining, because I didn't really know what was going on. However, the concept of the video itself (and to a point, the graphical glitches, I guess) make it entertaining. It's something that's stimulating conceptually rather than...errr...visually, I suppose.
For instance, let's say that with even more work, more memory address searching, more glitch abuse, and more exhaustive testing, it were possible to walk out of the house, and into the final battle. Even with a full explanation of why and how, the run wouldn't be very fun to watch - but it would still be an amazing technical breakthrough.
For this, a yes vote - simply because it's an unrivaled technical feat...but I'd personally much rather watch the 0-star Mario64 run or the Harmony of Dissonance Maxim run.
Amazing work, inichi
Actually I was trying to stick to my rule of not posting WIPs anymore but I need to know if there are possible improvements (aside from the fall-through-platform glitch I was unable to perform in one place). I would really appreciate if someone came up with a map of Great Cave Offensive. I've been making rough maps but it would save my time if I could use already existing maps.
WaddleDXsp once informed me about possible improvements to his run, but I can't really understand what he was saying back then.
I can't read Japanese, all I can do to read it is using Google Translator...
WaddleDXsp wrote:
he mentions these possible improvements, i believe:
·using the benefit of copying wheel and fire (don't know what that is)
·map of where the railcar is?? something about the railcar.
·on the way to "crystal area" (i'm sure on that one)
·you can probably diminish the one (or first) time a star appears on fatty whale (the whale boss) [again not too sure]
so, really, the only help i can give you is about the journey to crystal area. sorry!
I think it would also be incredibly boring as the attacks would be doing next to nothing at that point, even if it were possible to manipulate all misses
