I actually tried this. I collected a star after loading my old state which brings up the save dialog. Saved the game, reloaded game. Did not work. Oh well. I guess it can't be helped.

I'm playing Super Mario 64 and I mostly just do short recordings from savestate here and there in the game, mainly trying to get the hang of it and learn to do some of the tricks in the game. The bug that annoys me is how when I play back the m64 file it always seems to cut off earlier than when I recorded it. Sometimes I lose just a few frames, but often much more. This seems to be a known bug, but is there like a workaround or something for this? Oh and there is one other thing. When I play back one of the complete TAS runs from the site they obviously want to start from a clear state, so the native save file gets wiped when I start playback. But when I am done watching I'll want to get back my old save file again. The way I'd do this on snes9x was I'd make a savestate before playing the movie file and then restore it after finishing, and that would overwrite the native save file with the old (complete) one again. The problem is that Mupen does not seem to do this...even though I have my old save file in the state, and can load that state, it doesn't permanently remain. As soon as I reload the ROM I lose it again. Now I have to make a copy of the .eep file for Mario and manually restore that every time I want to watch one of the TAS runs. There's got to be an easier way...
