Some of the questions I ask are more "what-if" based and out of curiosity, so I apologize if there was anything offbeat. And I thought W7 was Beta, but if not, it could be getting close soon. I hear they already been releasing builds after 6801, and according to a Wikipedia image they're past 7000. Just for shits-and-giggles (excuse the language :P), I'll give FCEUX on Windows 7 a try as I am actually installing the OS. I am aware of any dangers W7 might throw at me and that this OS is not stable until Microsoft's low-IQ genius himself (Bill Gates) is satisfied. I still can't always trust Vista. [ Update ] What a bummer. Windows 7 did not provide enough to support my laptop's hardware, resulting in an upgrade failure. Luckily, a roll-back was able to put me back in Vista. My next move now is the following emulation method: VMWare program > Windows 7 guest OS > FCEUX emulator

For some of you that didn't know, Microsoft has been thumping their tables just to push Windows 7 into development - at least trying to get out of beta stage by Summer 2009. Some believe that Windows 7 will be a more lightweight version of Vista. But the reason I bring this up is because certain versions of Windows will have some kind of impact on FCEUX - and of course the other emulators as well. Already, I have a stable copy of Windows 7, but it is Beta. And I can look to dish out a little extra money for a product key if I have to. My concern here is that even though FCEUX works fine on Vista, maybe it could work on Windows 7? However - if it somehow didn't, how long would it take (start to finish) to release FCEUX for Windows 7? [ Wikipedia ]

And as long as you question every answer and DD in both rounds, that means the two other computer players have zero dollars meaning they are still in the hole.

And if you are going for a time attack, I think it would be much more amusing if you manipulated both computer players to answer wrong and end up in the hole by the end of double jeopardy, in which case you'd win by default and not have to sit through final.

And I wish it can be possible to make fun of gameplay by throwing in a few entertainment tradeoffs just for giggles. I thought I'd give an example or two:
QUESTION RESPONSE
==================================================
Where is	"TASvideos.org?"
Where is	"my controller? I lost it!"
What is "A tool-assisted movie?"
What is "a better way to pwn this game?!"
Who is "the guy ripping this game apart?"
Basically, throw in a little bit of humor and sarcasm when questioning certain answers that Alex gives, but not all the questions nor actually confirming sarcastic response. You still have to plenty of time to delete characters and give the actual correct response - however, don't horse around. How will the judges feel about humor and sarcasm in a TAS?! Hmm... =))

8-Bit Jesus Christmas Chiptune album Check this out, it's pretty awesome. This fellow who calls himself Doctor Octoroc, he's done an album of classic Christmas songs done up in the chiptune style of a whole bunch of old school NES games, like Mega Man, and even Bionic Commando. There's sure to be something you like on here, it sounds pretty well put together. :) My favorite so far seems to be "Carol of the Belmonts".

Okay, there is a very simple way to TAS this game. Right off the bat, I cannot think of any ways to abuse programming errors - it's simply because I never even bothered playing Jeopardy! as a video game. If you want to TAS this game, let me give you my input. Show as demonstration. This may look like cheating, but this is one way that TAS work is supposed to be done. This will not only work the emulator, but your brain also. Aim for maximum money (score). The game does randomize where the Daily Double is placed on. According to rules, the first round has one DD while the double round has two. It would be great if it was placed anywhere in the $100 row. $200 is fine but make sure it is nowhere in the center or the bottom because more money is actually down there. Once you found the DD, save that for last until you "question every other answer" on the board. Then once you finally reach the DD, make it a true one so your money can sky-rocket. If you're lucky, you might end up with $17,800 by the end of the first round. It can be possible to break $100,000 by the end of the game after three true DD's. However, if the game can only allow $99,999 to a single player - then that can be the maximum score. One thing that can be annoying is that you have to go back and forth cycling through letters just to question the answer. But it can take a matter of frames to get things right and move on to the next. I might give this a shot soon.

Laser blockage? Last stage? If that's the case, I can tell you right off the bat that it even affected me a lot worst! You can still take a look.

At the very last fight with a jetpacker before the very final boss, a glitch (possibly related to the first one listed) prevented me firing as rapidly as possible. I couldn't get around it without losing a lot of time, and it sometimes let me fire anyway. I did the best I could find, but if I could have gotten around that somehow I could've saved a couple dozen frames.
OK as much as I would think about this, I am sure that the repetitive shock zaps and its near-annoying sound FX would be one main cause of lagging - especially for that segment of the game before the final boss. Maybe the memory addresses behind that and the game's queue will give Arnie the idea of when to fire his laser under this heavy condition. If we seek to shave more frames off in the long run, we will need to seek and monitor memory addresses of "Soylent Sodas that are dropped after taking out an enemy" and "the lagging effects of the 3rd stop in the final stage before the final boss". I hope I said it right! Man, I love it when a plan comes together. =)

No problem, and let me know if there is any problems with the video. I might keep working with the encoders to make sure no content looks too blurry.

I figured collect every gem, even the red ones, and that could really be 100%. But mmbossman is right, it will be longer than the latest Aladdin publication.

And what kind of limitation are you talking about?
I have to play with the number of ammo that Bart gets (10 at a time) which I thought would be limited. If he doesn't have the ammo and precise movement, he can't defeat his "Burns" (bosses) at faster times. The movement, positioning, and speed - that I understand.

I went back and pre-encoded the movie for those that had conflicts between ROM's, emulators, and movies. It may not look perfect, so this is an alpha release. http://rapidshare.com/files/169285038/totalrecall-tas-twistedeye.rar.html http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XPVYBQAX BTW, I'll take this TAS as my birthday gift! I turned 26. =)

I thought you were planning to do a few dances while waiting for doors to open in the first stage of Mars, of course that's what I did. But I can tell you cleaned up a lot of lag. Congrats! 9/10 You have my respect.

Wow, 2m:30s better than symbolic's first attempt!
And if I'm correct, I think this is 3:28 faster than Evilheart's debut attempt since the thread was created 4 years ago. Wow, talk about spending 4 years cracking the code to a faster run!

A couple of things to point out.
  • The rom I had was Simpsons,_The_-_Bart_Vs._the_World_(U)_[!].nes
  • The rom Sami used was one with a bad dump or did not have a [!] in the filename.
sami wrote:
In my rom there is graphical errors but not that much. You need a Simpsons - Bart Vs the World, The (U) to watch it.
I once watched his input with the other rom. One big thing I noticed was the ammo (red balls) that was infinite and never counted down to zero when Bart used them. The other was bad graphics in a few places, Hollywood>Soundstage 2 is an example. However, it looks pretty simple to focus on the actions and input done frame-by-frame even on a bad rom. And for that, I seek to post fastest time in a way the judges can accept. I can't beat the record because of limitation, but I seek to rip my own.

Don't forget that if you are having a hard time avoiding the falling rocks in Mars, they can do up to 1.5 units of health damage. This will take strategy.

Yes. In fact, I got a hold of its ROM the other week. One of the biggest changes I noticed was the cool color-changing effects in the status row (top of screen) for II and III. That was not featured in this trilogy.

does these games exist in Snes version?
I understand that each game has an ending movie. But why can't we just defeat bosses in I and II and instantly hit the reset button (like that one player did on SM Kart) just to save time and go on to the next game? It's no problem to skip the ending movies on I and II and just end the TAS input for the third ending, right?

I was messing with the subway boarding stage (after passing security checkpoint), and the same hundred-hand punching thing done at the right time allowed the game to not dispatch the dogs! And that could be error abuse and luck manipluation. On the other hand, hundred-hand punching before a certain stopping point would get Arnie stuck. I did the same thing at the mining stage where I punched before Digger Dan showed up. It glitched me through and I was able to get the laser gun, but that boss did not appear and the scene did not lock in. Even at the last boss stage. Boss disappeared but the game didn't lock in and kept going.

Any Tomb Raider games to TAS? Most of those Lara Croft games are hard as fuck to beat! And did we mention "Apocolypse" and "Brave Fencer Musashi"?!

9:12.08 http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/355131185/simpsons_WIP_11.26.08.fcm Now this may not look perfect, but it is 5 seconds faster. I have no idea what the improvement was, except a quicker defeat over the final boss.

Either way, it's your run, I'm satisfied, ratings are okay, and this could be a possibility of publishing at least the way I see this.
