I looked at this game several more times, and I came to an agreement. Not TAS'able, moving on. =)

Only the technology geeks know more about this. I safely overclocked my laptop from 1990 to 2140 MHz without bogging or blowing up the system. I put together the video last night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgNALEu6Mpc =)

I been using build 25, and it looks about the same as 15-rerecording. A few features were thrown in like frame advance and stuff, is there a written tutorial about these new features?

I may have a flaw or two in this movie, but I won't tell! lol, I know there's always room for improvement, ideas, and such, so I ain't worried if I get beat here. In your movie, you started jumping, yet the speed stayed the same. Was that just entertainment perhaps?

My third submission is still available on YouTube, but I will encode this movie soon while deleting the other. I might even post a short breakdown of this movie. Big thanx! As of now, we're completely under 7 minutes. Sorry, darkkobold. =( I'll be more careful with WIP's next time.

Cancelling this submission, hopefully for the last damn time. I just played this game again and beated the movie by about 5 seconds. We're talking 300 valuable frames here. I'll resubmit the new one. Big thanx!

Yeah, I figured KITT's dashboard was stored and used inside a helicopter. And KITT is not completely revealed until "GOAL" appears on the screen. If it helps, I look to get rid of all red and yellow vehicles. Should I TAS this game and see how fast and maybe boring it could get, I might get something out of it. To say the least, maybe I can reveal the dark side of Michael Knight and make KITT blow up their own black semi-truck everytime it sees one! That could be impressive, lol...

I'll give you a taste of it. Level 1 demo http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/110076412/Knight%20Rider%20%28U%29%20%5B%21%5D.fcm This will be a long drive, I'm afraid. And with traffic in the way, not even General Lee can stand up to KITT. Bonnie gives me one upgrade point for the first level. I can get more strength for the shield, I can start with more gas, or my engine can achieve a maximum speed of about 210 mph instead of 190. This means strategy.

...a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a TAS'er, that shall exist? Let me explain that it is right-off-the-bat very difficult to get through the first level without gas, and manipulating luck to get extra gas is indeed a must. Plus, you might waste more gas if you keep using Kitt's Turbo Boost. I would say this could be a combination of Rad Racer and Jackal. Is it possible to TAS this game and see what comes up? I dunno, I love the TV show and I even have season 4 on DVD, but I am concerned about Knight Rider as a video game. ROM used: Knight_Rider_(U)_[!].nes FCE Ultra version: 0.98.25 (Link - requires translation from German)

Let me bring this up. How long can it take to get through all 20 levels? It looks neverending because I after beated level 20, it took me to level 21 and only kept 84 viruses in the bottle.

The fights in the backalley of stage 1 (NES Robot snapshots) was not part of this movie. Is there really a problem with the emulator or even its version? If we can come up with some more rules, like the recommended version of the emulator that the TAS'er must use, would it be easier or harder that way?

I used emulator "fceu-0.98.15-rerecording". Link: http://www.filespace.org/nitsuja/fceu.zip Perhaps it would be a shame if I had to post the exact same time using a different version. Nothing else, I could be one that needs a better version of the emulator. The more versions of FCE that go out to the public, the more confusing things could get. Should I start encoding this movie into H264 and then sharing this on YouTube? I can have it ready in a few hours =)

I thought the movie was pretty good. I paid little for the bandwidth to download it. Thanx!

I'll vote after it has been accepted, published, and encoded. I don't have my emulators and rom's on me right now.

I saw the single-segment and even played along with it as I switched back-and-forth between the video and FCE ultra. On the video, Gilga did take more damage on level 4 than on level 3. I bet it was because of the offensive power of the rod that went up. So yeah, you're right about Defenee, that doesn't do any good. I apologize =)

-Defenee actually has nothing to do with attack power (The reason I kill Gilga's eyes in one hit is because I'm level 4); it doubles your defense power for a time.
I am still thinking about my first submission here. And it seems that I may still have a few flaws. I continue to believe that I could still kill a lot of frames leveling up to 4 than to conserve them by settling for level 3. I got to manipulate more luck than I could imagine, omg... lol...

You can't dodge bosses, so I hope you found the nerve to finish them off quick.

  • Utilizes a robot player (BasicBot)
  • Utilizes frame counter, frame advance, RAM watch, subpixel positions etc.
  • Colors a robot
What emulator did you use to actually do that? I never seen a version of FCE ultra that would allow you to utilize such a thing.

Here's my analogy for recalls: E. Coli is to meat as a programming error is to games. If I'm correct, you guys should see my point. =) Oh, and I re-read the responses from my other submissions and found this:

In just the first minute, you jump with a bullet following you, but end up getting hit with it.
If that snapshot I uploaded is what you're talking about, then that is one of the backalleys that a drunk guy was hiding in. If I kept walking and never intended to jump, not only I would be shot to lose life, but I would also kill more frames fighting in the backalley. That was one of my purposes of jumping here. My other purpose was to take the bullet so it can speed me up a little bit. In other words, "taking damage to save time". There is at least two things to deal with when Quaid gets up to that point: a bullet from behind and a drunk guy in a backalley coming at Quaid at the same time. Here's proof:
