Though it was possible to defeat Muzh on a level 3, Willow did have sword control as weak as he did when battling Bogarda. Basically, one sword swing inflicts three hits to a boss. In addition: Willow was 10 ex. short of the next level, and limited HP made him a ticking time bomb. The reason was that 32 hp was not enough to squeeze in a hit from Muzh to go temporarily invisible. Thus taking damage to try to save some time. In my 4th draft, Willow was able to do such thing and squeeze in a hit to finish Muzh off. But here, I fear that I wasted a number of frames trying to defeat Muzh on a lower level. The route toward Muzh's room, where certain encounters were mandatory and could not be manipulated, might be the problem in this case. 5th draft: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1386111720/willow-p0rtal0frain.fcm Save state to Muzh battle: http://rapidshare.com/files/302319540/Willow__U_____.fc5.zip.html I'm using fceu-rerecording-0.98.28. The FC5 goes into the "fcs" directory. Load the movie as read-only and hit F5 to load the save-state, or you can watch the progress. ^_^ Edit #1: As I studied both drafts, on the very frame that Muzh was defeated (right where exp. started changing), I only saved 25 frames! It's frames 85630 on the 4th draft and 85605 on this one. Doesn't look much, but as I said, this is a tweak using everything we know. I think now we're in business! ^_^

After this game gets TAS'ed, I just have a thought. Any plans to have a second-quest attempt where Snake aims for best ending? I thought my best ending would be to have Snake survive two tortures (instead of skipping it) from Ocelot. Then Meryl takes the driver's seat at the escape route, where the game ends. Ocelot's torture will depend on whether the game will end with Ocelot or Meryl. Surviving the torture puts you in control of Meryl, while skipping the torture won't. If I wanted to end the movie, I would debate to end it either when Snake and Liquid reach the end of the escape route, or by fast-fowarding through the final Codec conversation after the end of the route.

Do you guys really want annoyance? Do you guys really want to bleed your ears out? Try TAS'ing NES Remote Control. As many times as I played that game, my ears were bleeding because of looping music. And of course, it's worst than this. How many other games have the looping music that gets annoying?

That I already know. Don't get me wrong, I only use download accelerators as a last resort. All I need is a reason, for getting over the fact that nearly every download I run gets stuck in the middle of nowhere and gets timed out. It's not you guys that have the answer, it's the server/network administrators. I also learned that most download accelerators allow the user to select a number of simultaneous connections to the same server, so I always choose 1 to stay legal. And should the download stop in the middle of nowhere, it picks itself back up without starting over - unlike the way Firefox and IE does.

http://www.archive.org/download/TASVideos_Nes/dragonwarrior4-tas-adelikat.avi Now the reason I include that link is to show an example of why I had to jump through hoops to finally get videos like that downloaded! There are numerous times, both on IE and Firefox, where it downloads into 30, 40, even 50 percent - and always lags long enough to get timed out; which pisses me off. I went to www.flashget.com and downloaded their free accelerator program where I had a faster download, a strong grip, and the ability to resume from a stop or a failure. It's freeware last time I checked. I don't know how Linux users can see this, but I find FlashGet useful for hard-to-download stuff these days. I prefer using this, even on a DSL connection because I am sure archive.org can have a lot of traffic - which I am sure that is already one reason. =/

And when I do get completely finished, the 5th draft (to be submitted) will be just like the usual. For now I will create an "encore presentation" movie where I aim for level 13 first before I go after Gen. Kael in Nockmaar. The encore presentation will be intended for educational and informational purposes only, and may not be declared my official submission based on comparison. One more thing I am willing to throw in, I will also try to tweak the Muzh battle to see if I can try to defeat him on a level 3. I discovered that you can't go any lower than that because defeating Bogarda with zero ex. promotes Willow two levels and ends up with 700 ex. coming out of Dew. Thanks, guys, and once again wish me luck. ^_^

Re-record count says "1337" as it is. Whether it seems legit or not, I wouldn't mind putting that in the subtitle. And I wonder if "a tool-assisted presentation" sounds better than "a tool-assisted movie" or "recording" -- for the second subtitle?

It's a yes vote from me. But why call yourselves the Power Rangers? I mean, back when Cpadolf and Hero of the Day submitted a movie created by both of them, did they give themselves a team name? No they didn't! ^_^

Yeah, I'm also planning to do comparisons in this 5th draft. I been getting a few responses saying:
  • grind to 39,340 ex. (all the way to level 13), enter Nockmaar, talk to Abang, call Ocarina to Tir Asleen, get the key to Nockmaar, call Ocarina to the Tavern, change Fin Raziel, call Ocarina to Nockmaar, get through the Madmartigan/Sorsha scene, defeat Gen. Kael, taking ~47,000 ex. to Bavmorda (hopefully, TheAxeMan, I said it right ^_^ )
And then the way I've had my drafts laid out:
  • grind to 31,340 ex., blah-blah, defeat Gen. Kael, call Ocarina to the Tavern, change Fin Raziel, enter Nockmaar for the 3rd time, taking ~39,500 ex. straight to Bavmorda.
So yeah, I'm glad you reminded me. I'll go with the first one, and then hold on to it so I can go back and do a re-run where I compare to the 2nd. If I have to, I'll upload the save state where it will take Willow straight to the frame where he begins to do a brief level-grind, or at least until the point where he reached over 30,000. This could take another month or so due to life and personal reasons, but I'll be glad to get this when I get the time. ^_^

According to gameplay, when Willow reaches the top of the mountain located East of Tir Asleen castle, he has to talk with the old woman sitting up there. Ya know where she tells you to "wait and believe in a prophecy." After talking with her, Willow is able to enter Tir Asleen castle where Eborsisk awaits. Though leaving the top of that mountain, I clearly discovered that I don't need to call Ocarina back to Tir Asleen or even get the MP to do it. I am able to use death as a shortcut back to Tir Asleen and still get in to the castle that way! As far as Tir Asleen's prison trap goes, I wanted to see if it was possible to skip talking to Madmartigan and go straight to the southeast part of the cell to open the hole. Unfortunately, the game forces me to listen to Madmartigan first. A 5th draft will consist of tweaking the Tir Asleen event, and also I noticed a couple of flaws I needed to fix as well. I also noticed certain positioning and attacking patterns on the road to Nockmaar where I was able to use the Thunder spell 8 times (in the process of abusing 'inaccuracy of MP glitch') before acquiring more MP. So this upcoming draft will also focus on tweaking that level-grind process as well. Now, I don't have to adjust Willow's MP quite a bit when going into Tir Asleen and when preparing for Eborsisk. And of course I also aim for stronger abuse of that MP glitch. I predict at least 15 seconds of improvement altogether. I am throwing the red flag and challenging this game again!

RIG7 NVFX E45V 07BT Castlevania II where Simon starts the game with everything and defeats Dracula for a daytime bad-news ending. It's been like that since I was a child and still remember it. ^_^

It looks like you really gotten far into this game, at least around midpoint or past it - and it appears a unique pausing glitch might have been well-ultilized along the way. Whatever's going on, what's your progress?!

Okay, I did watch the MKV. I didn't reach the end until last night. If this gets published, this will be one of the longest TAS's of all time, not to mention Chrono Trigger and Lufia II.

I thought I played this game once. It was boring for me to even play through the first stage. Meh vote.

5 hours long, haha. Another test of endurance to see if this can be watched all the way through. I already got through the first hour and became highly entertained thus far! Voting Yes! ^_^

Okay, though this method would take a lot of frames, it seems useful to push "Down+Select" to bring up Spirit and then push A to confirm restoring life. Only use if you can't find rations or if you get seriously tied up in a TAS.

I would not go after VMWare. They don't appear to be an open-source emulator to me, and they do require licensing in order for use. Most mentioned qemu and maybe even Bochs. If I was in this situation, there is no telling which open-source PC emulator will stand out for TAS'ing.

Yeah, and besides I am taking a break from The Atlantis Factor. Willow has wore me out dramatically as well, so yeah, it'll take time before I get in the driver's seat of a game. But are you in the driver's seat of this game? I'm just curious. ^_^

Okay, I'm interested in this game, but only as a viewer. I guess I'll have to read the previous 4 or 5 pages to see who's challenging the published MM4 and/or what improvements are found.

I don't see any reason why we have to put up a debate here? There shouldn't be too much of a big deal as to what system that Sonic is being played on. Did I ever heavily criticize Sonic being played on Genesis? Never. -_-

Yeah, I thought I'd find Tekken, Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter the three best fighting games I ever played! And how does SNES Clay Fighter compare to this?

this game drives me nuts, too, so you're not the only one, lol anyhow, I guess a decent strategy would be to get LV3 unarmed just to get the ability to use drop-kicks for speed and concentrating on putting the gun at LV2/LV3 before facing the band-aid miniboss. I also want to know if it's a good idea to level up the laser gun after defeating the first boss (ex: Overkill)? I thought the laser gun was used in that single-segment speedrun at SDA?! For now, I give a preview of a preferred stage (mountain climb) after defeating Overkill... http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/63001547/gi-joe-p0rtal0frain.fcm
