So now begins the debate: Does a VC-only glitch count towards reducing the A press count? The run would freeze on N64, but play back fine on emulator / virtual console.

I believe he is using a hack where he can press L to die instantly. Since his goal is to practice speed run strats, this hack allows for fast resetting if he messes up.

Whoa, those wall kicks were sick! It's as if Mario beat the physics engine into submission, and now it just lets him go which ever angle he wants.

VSC is great when it can be used, but in general there's not many places where it's applicable. You need a some sort of step or ramp to make the VS. Once you get it, you can only move forward (no direction changes) at a very slow pace (difficult to get past amp and impossible to get past flames). And of course, you can only reactivate the VS by punching off of a ledge, and often there isn't one where you want one. And even after all that, you only get a tiny boost of 98 units, less than the 128 of the dive recover. Also Plush, the most VS you can get with a ZB is 37.5, if it lasts long enough to fall with speed -75.

So the only A press necessary to beat the game is in BitFS? Dang. That really makes me wanna see you guys find some crazy strat to bypass it.
We've been on the case for months! And of course, a lot of credit goes to Tyler, who helped reduce it from 9 A presses to 1 A press in a very short time span!

I looked at the level geometry, and Mario would have to be REALLY far over to have the surface of the water not out of bounds. In fact, this position is within the downtown room, and we know you can't activate the load zone from there.
