ok well I guess I had the wrong idea about this site then. I figuered this site was SDK+tools. It really doesn't have to do with setting goals according to the games design? if it does, then thats what SSB videos will be about, which is why I guess people are saying that SSB is a bad game to TAS(naturally) I I can see how this video is less entertaining then all of the rest of the movies on here. Tetrisphere, Mario 16 stars, and the Zelda N64 video. All of them are about speed+entertainment. (except I really don't see anything entertaining about Link walking backwards 80% of the time... It was still a good video though.) Mario 64 was a good video, manipulating some odd glitches, and the parts in the Bowser arenas were very nice. I guess if anything, the Mario 64 video on here is a good example of how TASes should be. Unfortunately the way the scoring system is in SSB, makes for some boring results(IE the less stuff you do, the higher the score/bonuses) They seemed to work on this predicament more in SSBM, whereas in SSBM the MORE stuff you do, the higher your score is(which makes for better entertainment) But SSB isn't SSBM. Anyways I guess I'm out of line or something. I just joined a few weeks ago so I didn't really know what this site was about.

I think you got the wrong idea...here is why I say that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71yUbTsR54E Now altho this video is HUGELY entertaining, and took alot of work, and is a very awesome video....it doesn't really accomplish anything game-based(anything TAS worthy) like fastest time, etc. Comicalflops 'points per frame' TAS run may not be as entertaining, not as much as this vid is, but it DOES accomplish something that is set up in the game. the game has a scoring system, and a time system. Comicalflops video has entertainment value, there are alot of votes saying yes, just not as entertaining as it could have been, but none the less, its an awesome accomplishment, and I think it could use some more work, and some more thought to making it even better, and possibly even less repetitive.(I'm willing to work with comicalflop to do another more entertaining 'points per frame run' if he wants to)

^^^what he said. This is a good way of explaining how this kind of video 'makes sense' as a TAS video submission. Points per frame/points per second....thats a great idea for other TASes for other games like this too....ingenious!

I think everyone that is saying this video is too repetitive is just making excuses. Its a great video, well put together and well thought out. Not to mention very well optimized, and enough variety to suit me. This video really does demonstrate a highest score possible in the least amount of time. You see, for the particular goals of this run(highest score IN fastest time) variety is cut to a minimum. You cannot use items(for one because you would not get the No Item bonus, and taking the time to use most of the items would waste completion time) You also cannot take time to rack up as much damage with each opponent because that would also waste time, not to mention that on certain levels a higher score is possible by NOT damagine an opponent. And if you even took the time to notice, All the Yoshis in Yoshi team were killed in the ORDER that they fell from the sky!!(the order of the colors in the top left corner) Same with Kirby Team!!! these are outstanding achievements! I think this is just one of those games that you would have to play in order to understand why this run was such a perfect idea(knowing what bonuses there are, all possible outcomes, etc.) The only big things I would like to have seen is maybe a final Pokemon KO, or proximity mine KO, or trying to get All Variation in Polygon Team. Other thent hat, the video is well optimised, and is exactly what its suppose to be, a high score time attack(I really think after this you should go for an ultimate highest score possible run!) This is a definite Yes vote for me, wether or not I got a mention in your post.

Awesome run so far, I like the way you handled Samus. Good luck on Polygon Team! Can't wait to see the final score of your run, looks great!

I totally agree with comical flop. it really is a time attack/highest score combined. this is evident in levels where taking your time to get other bonus3es doesnt matter, because those bonuses dont exist. For examople, BtT BtP and RttF dont give you any extra bonuses ever for attempting to get other bonuses. Therefore it only makes sense to do those particular types of levels in the fastest times possible. because it also results in the highest score possible. Plus a 30 minute long video of actually going for a real highest score possible would get boring, and would lose my attention really fast. What comicalflop is trying to attempt keeps people intrigued. I believe the entertainment value of this vid once its done will far surpass a vid going for ONLY highest score. In fact from my slight calculations, an ultimate high score only vid wouldn't beat comicalflops score by much...thuis less impressive. SO STOP WHINING. EDIT: arwing clear would sacrafice other more valuable bonuses he would have gotten from that 1 level like speedster for that particular level and of course time saved like he mentioned...far more points then arwing.

I would still say this is a highest score run. I mean, the time you would comprimise trying to get pacifist on yoshiteam kirbyteam, and some others would be no match for the bonuses you would get for speed demon and saved time, and damage bonus. I also think it would be IMPOSSIBLE to get pacifist on Mario Bros stage along with true friend and bros calamity, because the other cpu would most likely go after your ally no matter what.

I meant to ask do you NEED to use the cutter to get onto the 4th platform(right after the rock form) or would it be faster to puff your way to it, then use a jump to possibly get ont he moving stone up to the fifth platform?(sry for posting so much lol) If you think about it, you reallly dont need to use a cutter for the 4th platform since u got to wait for that stone to get there anyway.,...I was wondering if just jumping to it right from rock form would be faster then a cutter.

yah if there was a way to cancel his cutter, it might work...but you DO need to use a cutter to get onty hat platform before the moving stone....right?

I think you should complete the run to see what you have to beat the next time around. Complete this run, do the DKC2 v9 run, then come back and do this one again. Maybe you just need a break, you have worked pretty hard on this run...but perfection is the key, so I don't really know. btw there really is no way of reaching that moving platform in time(on the BtP level)??? not even with a cutter without touching the ground?

awesome! Thats a pretty huge accomplishment. Can't wait to see Kirby Team! Is the previous WR on BtP a real time play thru or TASsed?

awesome run so far! Alot of the techniques you are using are pretty cool stuff to do, but would be nearly impossible to feat in a realtime play-thru(Cutter technique on Yoshi Team, etc..) I'm impressed. Keep them comin! EDIT: you should also not have any problem beating nicos record for Metal Mario Stage...as shown in my vid.

For entertainment purposes, here is the vid of Link+yoshiteam on Very easy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4cW_6AJtwo full video download(11.6MB) http://files.filefront.com/wowwmv/;6300385;;/fileinfo.html For vs Link I use the 'walk-off' technique. Basically 99% of the time, Link will pull out a bomb at the final position to the very left of the stage at 4:39 on the timer. If you push him off at just the right time, he will pull out a bomb instead of attempting to rescue himself. The reason you would not be able to do this level the same way as in Very Hard difficulty, is because you would not be able to get Link to run after you, in fact for the first 15-20 seconds of the match, Link is 100% motionless(unless you hit him, then he will start moving around) The edge drop might work, but it would require different timing, and possibly not get speedster or taunt. For Yoshi team I got Pacifist and Yoshi Rainbow in a controlled way, IE: you have somewhat control over who dies first and when they die..and doing it the way shown in the video ONLY works for Yoshiteam on very easy, not Kirby team or polygon team...not even in a 2 player match with a 9 handicap and a 1 handicap and damage ratio set to 2! Beating the game this way would give you far less points tho, in the long run, including not getting Very Hard Clear as comicalflop mentioned. Plus you would most likely not get Speed Demon. anyway, the vid is quite hilarious.. EDIT: I just realised that up to that point in the game, comicalflop has FAR more points then I do in this vid! At the end of Yoshiteam comicalflop has 266,000pts while I have a mere 258,350pts....so doing it this way would be far less efficient....and definitely less entertaining.

actually the most ideal way to get pacifist AND yoshi rainbow is on VERY EASY DIFFICULTY...when you suck them up, and let them auto pop out, they fly upward and die...no damage done. I'll see if i can get a video of it.. Its also possible to get pacifist on link on very easy too, you just walk-push him off the left edge...sometimes he will pull out a bomb as he falls down instead of his up-b. but yah, it would be WAY to time consuming to attempt pacifist on yoshi team on Very Hard difficulty. On very easy, its very easy to get. EDIT: just watched the mario bros vid, YOU DIDNT GET THE TAUNT BONUS!!! XD oh well..

very cool! I am sure this record will be nearly impossible to beat...the only other way is if someone can sit thru thousands of re-records, for days straight waiting for a mew catch...other then that, amazing vid. congrats! the rest should be pretty easy, with the exception of polygon team....lol

that really sucks to find out...is the video still acceptable to the judges if you use some kind of ram replacement code to make all pokeballs mew? I really dont know anything about TAS video rules, so I'm not really sure. I would guess not, because if they allowed codes, then you could use an 'always get pacifist on every level' code...but knowing that its POSSIBLE to get mew, and NOT possible to get pacifist when you hit an enemy is the difference. I just know a Mew catch in SSB N64 is 'very rare' I've only seen mew pop out of a pokeball like 4 times since I bought the game for the console...played the hell out of it man....good times good times...anyway yah.

I wouldn't mind putting your vid on my youtube, but I dont have a directors account, the entire video would have to be 10 mins long or less...I think you need to make a certain amount of videos over a period of time to qualify to be a director. anyway, I could split the video into two parts...I'm sure you were referring to antd when you asked but I wouldnt mind doing that as well. Quite a few smashers know who I am ;) EDIT: I know what the frustration is like....I've spent days marathoning this game in real time, nearly losing my mind, just to get an official real high record...but I don't know how frustrated u are, it was very frustrating to me.

well both vids look very good so far. You know, i was thinkin that maybe cpu 'input' can affect item drops too...but your input is what affects cpu input, so thats alot of different possibilities already. I would love to see you try to get a mew catch if at all possible for yoshiteam, it would greatly increase the score. But as it looks, its very nice so far. I also wanted to mention something about partners that show up for you in the Mario Bros stage. I am pretty sure that sometime right before your list of bonuses comes up for BtT stage, that the variables are already written to the ram for what character will help you during the mario bros fight. I'm guessing this because every time I loaded the savestate I had between BtT and Mario Bros, it gave me fox, no matter how long I waited after the bonus list to go on. If this is the case, then determining what character you get for MB will be extremely difficult...what do you think?

hmm now that I think about it, you could pull of hawk on a few stages...vs Samus, mario bros, possibly polygon team.

correct. A thought just occured to me... bonus wise, psychoticworm's vid is very precise, except for doing things faster/flawlessly, making mew appear, making fighting polygon team better, and getting Bros. Calamity + True friend in Mario Bros. match, plus a few other tiny things, is a significantly higher score even possible?
I was thinking along the lines of close to 2.45mil-2.5mil... Trust me, I've spent years, since the game was released on N64, up to recently, trying strategies and attempts to get the highest score concievable in the game. I have been eager to go for a world record for this game(which finally happened) and possibly more for a very long time. For some reason SSB high scoring intrigues me. I've thought it out several times, what bonuses would be better off getting, what strategies would give me ultimately more points...I'm pretty sure, there really is no other huge thing I'm missing...my strategy is basically it. It just needs optimized very thouroughly.

I suppose so. I was just merely emphasizing that items will probably not start dropping until at least 10-15 seconds into any p1 mode battle. I noticed in my run of polygon team they started to drop sooner, but still over 10 seconds into battle. Also you might consider how much damage you will deal to each person throughout the whole run...there is a damage bonus as well! 10 times whatever accumulated damage was done throughout the battle to all the yoshis/cpus. Maybe a down spiral kick, Z cancel backthrow combo? That would be frickin sweet...dunno if that would potentially affect the final bonuses of throw down and judo warrior tho..

Ok. Well also I think Items dont start to drop at any time, until about 20-30 seconds into battle...this would explain why no items appear in nicos play. I am pretty sure you will never see any item appear on stage within the first 10 seconds of any battle...unless you use some kind of input cheat(IE a gameshark code that allows an item to spawn when you press down on the d pad) at any rate, it does take awhile for items to appear normally in 1player mode if you arent considering a game hack/codes EDIT: also some info on yoshi team. If you backdrop throwing them is quicker then meteor throwing them(kirbys straight up then down throw) If you want to do backthrows, its best to do it at the top ledge, this almost guarentees that the yoshi will die as a star, whereas backthrowing them when your on the bottom ledge near an edge, will almost always kill them instantaneously, or not kill them at all. The meteor throw will ALWAYS 100% of the time kill the yoshis as a star, never instantly. I had numerous times where I would throw one yoshi with a meteor throw(attempting to go for yoshi rainbow) then the next one in a row i would backthrow, The second yoshi would die first before the one that was meteor thrown first(thus making them out of order, eliminating yoshi rainbow as a bonus)
