It's time you all knew the truth. I can't live this lie any longer; I'm spilling the beans. The hammering and jumping inside the loading zone that you see throughout this video? (JSmith asked about it, above.) It's true that it doesn't waste time, but, actually there's an encoded message. I forget whether the hammering or the jumping it the one or the zero. It might be UTF-8 encoding? Not sure.

Can I ask what's the deal with wint supposedly stopping time to soon? Have SMB TASes not been using last input timing or something?

"I wonder if there is a way to get an upgraded hammer and other partners after skipping Goombario." I'm going to answer a slightly different question here. Can you get an upgraded hammer without getting getting the normal hammer? Currently... You need either Parakarry or Lakilester to cross the lava to reach the Ultra Hammer. The Super Hammer and Parakarry are both in Chapter 2, as is one of the seeds required to open Chapter 6 to get Lakilester. We cannot enter Chapter 2 without already having a Hammer upgrade to access the sewers shortcuts, or Bombette to blow up the rock at the train station, but to get to Bombette requires either a hammer or already having Bombette. Another approach you might think to take is the Any Partner Glitch, which theoretically gives us access to any partner as long as we get Goompa and then never obtain any other partners legitimately. But to get back out of Jr. Troopa's Playground after getting Goompa also requires the hammer. You might also think to get through Pleasant Path to the fortress by advancing the gamestate, which does allow you to get there, however there are no accessible triggers we can use to revert the gamestate back so that we can actually obtain Bombette (and you cannot Peach Warp into Chapter 6 and get Lakilester for similar reasons). Another idea you might try to reach the Ultra Hammer is to use Sushie glitch. You can be standing right next to the chest as Mario however the game will not let you open chests while Sushie glitch is active. So the short answer is no, at least not yet, anyway. If you skip the Hammer you can still get Bow. If you have a partner (or at least temporary access to Goombario from the Lucky Star scene) you can avoid the Red Station crash and get Watt. With Watt you can reach the jungle and get Sushie. As to your question about skipping Goombario. There is a way to skip Goombario which does not skip the hammer. You can entirely complete the rest of the game 100% without him except for Power Jump, Goombario himself, and his 2 partner upgrades.

Didn't seem worth making a thread over this but that said, this is driving me mad. In Snes9x 1.5x, my Frame Advance hotkey randomly stops working until I restart my computer. It stops working in all 1.5 versions at once. When it's not working, I can still use the Frame Advance menu item, however I couldn't find that menu item in the rerecording versions (using fast forward to frame seems the best way to do it at the moment), and even where it exists it's really hard to hold down inputs while you hit it. And no matter what I set the hotkey to, nothing, refuses to work. The hotkey always works fine in Snes9x 1.4x. I googled my issue and found one other guy who had the same problem back in March. He (also?) got no replies. I mean you just have to restart the computer but like, sometimes I'm doing stuff, okay. (Before you tell me to try a different emulator, I'm working with an old TAS at the moment... And also the more accurate stuff tends to run at about 60% speed on my computer.) Anyway that's my half-assed attempt at a bug report I guess.

Found another potential timesaver? I don't have the rest of the shot saved so I guess it's more of a proof-of-concept for anybody if they ever decide to redo this TAS. Link to video

Addams Family Values. I jumped to the controllers. I held down some buttons to call the credits after but I'm sure somebody could think of something more creative to do... Link to video I'm still looking for an RTA-viable method so I can get back to running this game. Feel free to solve that for me if you're feeling bored, lol.

Imglower found this. I told him to find it so that should count for something, right? And maybe I helped a little. Should save time in the All Cards TAS, except it's already done... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7HX8Rbw28Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVSh09LhIro He starts out the video on top of the statues, which you can get onto with an ultra boots jump. You have to kill the last clubba or else the door can't be opened. Finding Lakilester Pushing tech is hard b/c it's so unpredictable...

The publication uses the wrong YouTube video. Actually the video is right but the title and description are wrong? And I think it's about a 1s improvement for both 6-7s if you fire with 3/4 Power (low frame) and boost on every bounce :p.

Yeah on the frame she lands if you're pushing against an NPC it moves it a bit. As to why that actually happens I don't even know. There's a bit more weirdness besides this with using Bombette and nobody really knows why it happens.

Originally we thought this needed NPC pushing but apparently this whole time you could just jump in and grab it. Should save over a minute in the all cards TAS (except for that fact that said TAS was JUST finished). Link to video No pushing method found by imglower and myself. Rain was there too. NPC pushing method found by degex.

Link to video The number of partners required to finish the game has been reduced by 1; Parakarry is no more. If you want my guess as to how much faster it is I can throw out a random number and say 35s. NPC pushing tech found by imglower. You can use it for a whole lot of stuff but it takes so long to cover such a small distance that it's hard to find anything that would be worth it to use it for. Video by rain.

The reason bone has "skip" in quotes is because it's been possible for a while now to skip Ultra Boots, it was just slow, and while Parakarry is now skippable, it's currently slower to do so, unless a skip is found for one last use.

I'm gonna go ahead and stick my nose in where it doesn't belong. Just because FFM is used in the RTA community doesn't mean the TAS ought to make the same mistake. Glitched NG+ is a slippery slope b/c what happens to the category if you figure out how to carry the jiggies and the notes over from an existing file, too? I don't understand how that community actually came to this decision... There's a big difference between NG+ and Glitched NG+, isn't there? (Skyward Sword is a game which I think demonstrates that difference rather effectively.)

That guide is amazing, I just wanted to say. If you update it though, please fix the info about bounce caps, lol Cappa. It'd be cool if every enemy listed the range of bounces you could get. I bet you could use MHS to find the exact rate of close calls and fright jars and such, and also maybe a list and the likelihood of items to drop. You could also add info for stuff that's possible now with glitches, like the damage for a normal boots Mega Jump, just as an example. Depends on how crazy you want to go I guess. We dunno how the RNG works. We'd just waste a frame if we didn't get what we wanted. But I can tell you that he can't use the Wave or Lightning attack until turn 4. After he uses the Wave attack, he cannot use either the Wave or the Lightning in either of the next two turns. Charging seems to provoke him to use Wave sooner rather than later. There's some incorrect info in the guide about when he can use Star Shield. It says 3 or 4 turns after using Peach Beam, he can use again. I'm don't want to think too hard right now so I'm not going to try and decode how to count turns, so let's just say you use Peach Beam on turn 1, then the most likely turn for him to use Star Shield is on turn 4. He can use it on turn 3 but he usually doesn't. Sometimes he waits until turn 5. Rarely he will wait until turn 6... or 7... or maybe later who knows (Hallway Bowser is the same but 1 turn sooner). It also says that he waits for the affects of the Butt Stomp or the Claw to run off before using them again, however I'm not sure that that's actually true? And of course there are limits on when he can heal based on your HP, his HP, and the turn count. But for the most part, Bowser can just do whatever the hell he wants.

A series of tricks were found that will let the TAS skip the Ultra Hammer, saving maybe like 5s lol.

If 1 frame you end up in deku, next you end up in cutscene... Isn't that some other thing, to do with your camera when you open the door or something? B/c I know even without the slab there, you could get this to happen... right?
