Now, this is gonna generate a lot of debate.... But you could use an existing srm file with all the Emeralds already collected, then speed through the whole game as Hyper Sonic. Interesting to note is that finding a big ring (after having all the Emeralds) gives you 50 rings each time. At least this way, you'll never have to see a special stage, and you can go Hyper from the start.

As far as I can tell, there is no way to edit most of the bosses (except Wendy/whoever comes out of that pipe, and the Boos).

Don't expect to create your final run on the 1st try. Make a draft 1st and post it. Actually, you make several drafts taking different routes and compare the results. Also, does your run plan to get the Seven Swords and get Gold Sparkster? Getting Gold Sparkster would take longer (especially since you have to play the Robot Mech fight in the intro), and you don't get Gold Sparkster till the final boss. Gold Sparkster sure owns the final boss though.

So, it's the Extra mode that shows up the S Monitors? I assumed the Extra mode was for alternate saves ...... explains why I haven't been seeing S monitors...

This is one of my favourite genesis games. The speed at which you cut down those bosses is amazing. I was constantly wondering "how the hell did he do that?". One of the better movies on this site imo.

Interesting idea there. Question is, has anybody actually found an S monitor? I've yet to see one in the many times I've played through this hack... Apparently, S monitors make super sonic literally fly (or at least stop falling).

Entertaining run. Pretty obvious you were experimenting with the game. Liked the wall-glitch in Dark Fortress 3 (Marble Zone 3), City Outskirts as a whole (although you could have just gone right over the top), and your manipulation of the final boss. I swear Super Mighty has the best raw acceleration of the 3 super forms (though super sonic has moves to get him up to speed speed quickly, and the speed cap doesn't apply to super shadow). Also, it's possible for super mighty with a flame shield to sorta glitch the screen, I've glitched through sprites with it (and even gotten crushed several times).

http://www.s2beta.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9404 This Sonic 1 hack is simple. You start each level as Super Sonic and if you lose all your rings, you die. You start the game with 15 rings and carry other all your rings to the next act. Premise is you race to beat the game before your rings hit 0. 2 runs you could do on it, finish the game with the most rings possible (I've finished with 545 rings), or speed through quickly and finish on 1 ring. Obviously, I can't see any tas of this hack getting submitted, but it would be interesting for a concept demo.

Good work, love how you blitzed Metallic Base. I think I know of a shortcut in the transition from Metallic Base act 2 to act 3 (when Robotnik pushes the switch). Somehow, I was able to fall through the bridge before the cutscene, straight to act 3. I did it by zooming to the right real quick before the screen scrolls, going through the bridge before it got rendered. Mind you, I was using an older version of Megamix as Sonic, but I think it may still be possible. Also, why didn't you hit Robotnik that one last time after the final boss? (loved what you did to the final boss btw, only Shadow could do those moves)

Actually, if you really could manipulate what you want from drops, it would probably be best to manipulate it so you got 99 charmstones early, as that would open up a hidden warp direct to the last boss. Still, it's looking like that is nearly impossible without extensive knowledge of the game mechanics.

5 deaths? Most of those were rip offs though... One trick I did not see you utilize. Pressing A in mid-air puts you into a spin (if you weren't spinning already), from there you can homing attack or air-dash. It's nice when dropping off ledges or after bouncing off a spring. And before I forget, this trick also cuts your upward velocity after bouncing off a spring ... if you'd rather spend more time on the ground, it's a nice trick.

Interesting figures there. If you're forced to slow down or stop for whatever reason, the SuperPeelOut makes sense, especially if you can maintain that 16 pixels speed over a long distance. Otherwise, it's probably not worth stopping for that 18 frame chargeup. One thing I've noticed is jumping while going downhill. If done while going fast enough, you'll sometimes be able to go faster then the screen can scroll. I think only in City Outskirts or Starry Night could you put it to positive use though.

Nice tas. I'm surprised the Midair speed dash wasn't used more, I though the SuperPeelOut would be useless for a tas (obviously not!!). But then, why was the spindash used in other spots? Also, I thought when having the speedshoes powerup, using the midair speeddash would be faster in gaining lost momentum as opposed to stopping for a superpeelout. Nice zip glitch in act2. Also the 1st time I saw the special stages tas'd, no comment except to say, it's nice to see someone breeze through those things. Obviously, an all Emerald Run won't be any less feasible or entertaining then an any% run, you finished each act with over 100+ rings, despite taking the shortest path.

Alex gets a LOT more acceleration on the ground, and jumps higher from a running start too.

I was waiting for someone to bring this hack up. A TAS of this hack would be more entertaining then most other sonic TAS's combined (or about as equal as the S3k one). Also, it would overall be as fast as a sonic advance tas. The lightdash can be used in interesting ways. Also, due to how easy it is to get very high speeds (no speed cap), zipping should be very easy, jumping over whole levels via slopes should be easy. That's when sonic is not simply dashing through the level really quickly with his double jump move. The new Labyrinth Zone (Misty Maze) will require some crazy lag management. But yeah, some new versions of the hack are in the making, so a TAS might have to wait for now...

I'm glad people are finally starting to do something about this. Meka would probably be the best one do add re-recording support to. But whichever one does get the treatment, I hope it has good sound and gamepad support as well.

I just played this game the other night. Can the last boss only be hit in the head? On the Master System version, Gary can sometimes be hit in the stomach. Anyways, nice run.
