I was going to PM you, but I'll answer here. Lots of people will enjoy knowing what on earth is going on, so the subtitles will help a lot the people who haven't played, so you hav my support :)

But, Butz and Faris are in the bottom two slots, and you only have two Broadswords, which you have to Galuf and Lenna, right? So the normal attack from Butz does 16 damage instead of 32, and Faris does 6 for being unarmed. If Butz had a weapon you'd only need to attack once... but it's not that big a deal and it's so early in the run that you probably shouldn't worry about it
I checked that part & I have the 2 swords equipped to Butz & Leena respectively & the knife to Galuf... If that battle was the one I end with a hit instead of a goblin punch, then it was because it was faster that way ;) I played a little more & beat Gilgamesh once, I'm about to exit the castle... From now on, I guess I won't have as many troubles as in world 1, so I think I could progress a little faster :)

I watched this for the first time yesterday and had a few questions...
it's been a while, so I don't remember the exact details, but will try to answer them :)
Boco wrote:
Why do you fight the Goblin in a box and not some overworld Goblin? The overworld fight should give you enough EXP to eliminate the one fight before.
I decided to gain some experience inside the tower. In a patched run I made (which desynched at the Ancient library) I had to trigger 2 fights in order to fight the Goblins, it would had been the same in this run... So, I wanted to make the run look as linear as possible & not stop triggering the battle. I'm sure I didn't lost time, but didn't compared them :P
Boco wrote:
Why do you have Faris attack unequipped and then Butz attack with a knife in the Siren fight, rather than having one of them have a broadsword so only one needs to attack?
I think that I equipped the strongest weapons to the blue mages & leave Faris w/o a weapon. I would really need to watch it again to be sure, though :S
Boco wrote:
Any particular reason you grabbed the Elfen Cape?
For evading reasons. I might be low in HP in some places, so I need some evasion. Later on, I realized that evading takes a little more time than being hit, but if you can't survive the hit, then you must evade it...
Boco wrote:
How are you avoiding overworld combats near Karnak? Is there some reason this couldn't be done earlier in the run as well?
Well, for some reason in the patched run I just couldn't skip triggering battles after walking 1 space. This was going to happen also, but fortunately all I had to do is delay a little bit opening the menu & get a better RNG :D. (I'm sure I'll have the same issue on world 2, after passing the castle with the legendary weapons, but I know now how to deal with it :) )
Boco wrote:
Why did you need to kill Butz in the fight with Ironclaw? There should be an experience path which levels up the characters unequally based on the unequal EXP they begin with and doesn't need to kill off a character to have only one level 5. Of course you didn't lose much time here because you still had to manipulate out a Deathclaw casting.
Since I made an extra battle (a MiaB fight), I gained a little more exp than what I expected, so everyone would be at exactly lv 5, ouch! Also, it looks kind of unexpected :)

I've not watched past the Library yet...
Well, I changed a few things from my patched run, like the steal glitch, so you should watch it. I'm around 4 minutes ahead of my patched run by now :)

I just downloaded this and will check it out later today. I also made a post in the "translation patches" debate in the General Forum that might be of interest to you.
Ok, I'll check it out :)

It's been a long, but I finally beat the 1st world, all I have to do is to check which jobs should I have beforehand & then go to the 2nd world... (I was playing to much the GBA version, that forgot to continue this run :P) I'll post the progress tomorrow :)

I don't want to see a run of the GBA version, I have never played it. I don't know about FF5, but at least the GBA FF4 was not a direct port, things had been changed.
In FFV Advance, you can run as in the PS version w/o the thief's ability. However, all the useful glitches where removed, so a new plan would need to be found (unless you just follow the SDA strat...)

Sorry, I've been playing the GBA version lately, so I haven't progressed the run :P. Luckily I realized that I can use GP Toss on the Puroboros fight & save some time, now I just have to check if I can change jobs to gain some ABP points for a job & spend less time on world 2 leveling up... (I think it's worthy, but maybe I'm wrong...) BTW, it seems that none of the useful glitches works anymore for the GBA version, so there's no Steal glitch nor Mix glitch. If someone plans to do a run for this version, then a new strat should be needed, as you can't buy as much as you want now. (It may probably have to be like in the SDA run...)

I kinda liked it. I have that game & it was a pain beating it... Maybe that's why I didn't found it boring, though the glitch used was kinda lame...

Well as for FFV, there will soon be an English version for the GBA, so there can be a TAS run in Japanese for the Snes version & an English one for the GBA. (But that doesn't mean I will do the later, unless no one will, but I rather pass...)

Mmmm, you're right Boco. For what I've played so far from the GBA version, I can say there can be a time improvement from dashing w/o the thief's ability. I just hated how the main characters portraits looks like, except for maybe Cara & Boco... Also noticed that since the screen is small, the jobs tier has been splitted & you have to scroll down to choose one from below, plus you can't press left & jump from the first one to the last one (though it doesn't matter that much)... Dunno about luck manipulation yet, but finding some CB codes was easy :P BTW, here are some snaps I've taken: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v205/SamuraiGoroh/Final%20Fantasy%20V/GBA%20version/ Edited: Oh I also forgot to mention that the sound is better here & the screen is lighter...

Well, if the bonus can make the run faster, I think it would be right to switch. However, I would rather finish my run & if I can do the GBA one too, just do it with better luck manipulation or so... BTW, when was the japanese version coming out? Or is it already on sale? I remember that the US version was going to be released on mid Noverber, right?

So fighting apocalypse would take an extra 4000 frames? In that case, just skip it;
Actually it takes less, but I also included the time required learning exploder from the Puroboros & the time healing after Apocalypse battle...
Bob A wrote:
you can do it in a separate movie if you want. (and I would be interested.)
Mmm, learning exploder is on world 1 while Apocalypse fight is on world 3, so unless there's a place on world 3 to learn it (& don't lose time), it couldn't be done w/o re-doing it all over. (Since luck is time based & couldn't be HEX edited...)

Bonemail + Fenix Down is faster due to its animation, the explotion takes a little less than an extra second... I was wondering if people would still enjoy the Apocalypse fight, since it's in japanese. Well, at least I think they would go like WFT o_O

I forgot, should I learn Exploder when fighting the Puroboros & then fight Apocalypse for the fun factor or save some time skipping them both? (I think it was around +60 secs...) I can (& will) take the Exdeath vs Galuf fight with the bonemail equipped, as on my patched run, so I can complete skip this magic...

I first though that the browser was screwing around... I like the idea of making the page more compact, but splitting in 2 rows it's ugly. Personally, I really like the format on http://www.cyberscoreforums.com/

I hadn't posted because not many people are interested, but I've been busy lately & haven't advanced much. I'm still after Archeoavis. I was going to continue, but forgot if Galuf keeps his Job or if he stays as bare... (I could just watch my patch run, but haven't had time :P) In the past weeks I had a Chess tourney & the team won, & now I'm in the middle of some exams. So, if everything turns right, I can progress next week. (Though I now only have free time Saturday nights & Sundays, as opposed to before when I was on vacations :( )

Is CC when you lift one part of the cart while it's connected? If so, then I know that in F-zero X you can get a massive speed that way... (you normally go at ~ 1200 km/h, but you'll go now at ~ 2000 Km/h)There are some videos here: http://www.mrfixitonline.com/viewtopic.php?t=738

^ Hey, that's my snap :) I think I wrote the strat on one of my old notebooks, I could just seach for it, but Nick's time can sub 8 seconds... I'll let you know when I find it ASAP, Adelikat. I already told you on the PM's, but nice to see someone improving this game :D
