I remember testing with the walk through walls code a long time ago, if you don't talk to the villagers there you can go straight to 3-4 and jump on the tile 10 times. It seems like the flag isn't set until you start talking to them. So with this you should be able to skip the entire ghost dungeon and getting the morning star (you'll still have it at the start of the next chapter).
Entertainment value is not just the quality of the run. You're also judging the game itself that's being run, and audio's a part of that.
The voices are really, really annoying, so I voted "meh."
Nice run (and comments). I've heard you can skip the final boss fight by getting the cheerleader killed. So if you were to get an extra victim for that final stage and do that, that could save some time.
Personally, I wouldn't count this as beating the game because it doesn't reach the credits. If you beat level 4, you're then given a match vs the cpu at level 5. Only if you win that do you get the credits with the programmers' names.
I spent some time testing this a while ago. You can't scroll up. I couldn't find a way to get past the battle without killing him, and I couldn't get to the "glitch world" either. I was able to go one screen down and end up in the wall in that big room. But, I couldn't walk around; it would only let me jump off. I also could go into the room on the left, but it's a false exit so not really helpful.
What's interesting is that in Yum Yum's area, there is one square that is semi-solid. If you jump onto the wall to the left of the topmost skull, you can jump onto this square and if you do it right, everything in the room will shift down one row. The graphics stay the same, but you're able to move one row lower. You can keep doing this over and over, which allows you to eventually jump down to the black space where your items/health are. But I was unable to totally break things (yet).
I'm familiar with it. In fact, I linked to a video of someone doing that several years ago in the SDA thread, but apparently no one reads it...
I'm not sure it would be faster since you wouldn't be able to use that gun on the miniboss (or you'd have to pick up another one.
It's clear that the boss doesn't take a certain number of shots to kill. It seems to be based on hitting him when he's going left or on certain animation frames. Or maybe, doing a large amount of damage in a short time. It'd be nice if someone could look into the game's code and figure it out.
Heh, I actually found that a couple months ago but I didn't post it because I was planning on secretly doing some runs to beat Dragondarch's time. Unfortunately my NES conked out on me and I haven't bothered to replace it yet, so I put any runs on hold.
I didn't find anywhere else to use it, though.

Here's a video of the credits warp. I get there from the room with the exit. I don't know if that's the only room - that's just the way I did it the first time, and I know that it works.
I've tried to get to the "glitch world" from the Yum Yum fight in chapter 1, but no luck. I can get out of his room to the left or down, but that's it. Can't skip the fight yet.
I did it. Warped to the credits from chapter 3. This file won't explain anything, but here it is:

But anyway, like in the early exit video above, it all starts by getting to a part of the screen where you're not supposed to be. By using the walk on water trick, you can get down to the black part of the screen and come out the top. From here, it's like Mega Man 2 where you're apparently walking around on a different screen than where you actually are.
It's then possible to reach "exits," which can lead to multiple possibilities:
1 - Screen stays black and nothing happens
2 - Takes you to the dungeon entrance on the overworld, everything then proceeds as normal
3 - Same as #2, except it goes to the dungeon exit (see the final boss skip)
4 - Takes you to an extremely glitchy overworld screen, like the screenshot above. I guess if you glitch the screen enough, it's past the point where it can go back to normal. Most of the time it either freezes instantly or as soon as you walk a little bit. Sometimes it's a bit more stable, though. And here, it went straight to the credits.

Well, now it's starting to get even more broken. I was just able to warp from chapter 3 to chapter 6. Holy shit.
Same glitchy screen as before, but I was able to not have it freeze and this happened. Actually, it happened a bit earlier and this is me recreating it - the first time it happened right away in the glitchy part by just going up.
I was also able to get a different glitchy screen on the next screen up, so maybe other warps exist? Nothing would surprise me at this point.

Just messing around right now and I was able to find an early exit for monkey pit 1, which I can't seem to recreate right now. But I did manage to record this bit of crazy glitchiness.
Screenshot (when you press select to bring up chapter info):

Early exit recorded, finally.
I think what's happening is similar to Mega Man 2 where you're on a different screen than the one being shown.
I was able to recreate it a few times without too much trouble. It could be the timing of killing it right when it leaves the screen. Maybe it loads the hp for the second target right as the first one leaves or something. Or maybe you're somehow hitting the green thing and dying at the same time.
Here's a clip of me doing it:

It's now possible to skip the C-Serpent in both StarTropics games:

Also, it's possible to make the following jump (doable in real time as well). The old TAS strat was already outdated, but this is even faster:
Level 6 is one of the hardest, most frustrating levels in any game I've played. The enemies that fly around are one hit kills and respawn infinitely. In addition, you move super slowly and can't fire straight up or down. If anybody had actually played this, it would be pretty notorious.
I enjoyed seeing this horrible game get destroyed. Yes vote.

Really stupid skip guhbadoo found on Twitch yesterday. All you do is hold left and it skips the conversation (or hold right or down).
In the water, when you move onto a cutscene square, you have one frame where you can hit B (to submerge) or select (to bring up the "this is chapter whatever" message). Haven't found a way to skip anything, but there's still some interesting stuff you can do.
If you move onto the whale's square in chapter 4 and submerge, you won't get eaten and you can continue sailing to the right though the water is just endless.
In chapter 2, after the dungeon you have to enter the sub and move one square to the right to talk to the boy dolphin. If you hit B or select as you do that, the cutscene won't continue and you're stuck.
If you hit select at the beginning of chapter 2 on the square where the mother dolphin appears, you can close the window just as she starts to talk and she'll go underwater immediately, rather than at the end of the conversation (don't remember if that saves any time).
