I've got to disagree with you there, Tub. I believe that this run is improvable. The odds of a run this long being frame perfect is pretty slim. Nevertheless, this is close enough to perfection that no one voted No or demonstrated a way that it could be improved. Furthermore, it was entertaining and surprising. It meets all of the criteria of being a star movie. If a movie can't get a star if it's still improvable, how could we ever award stars? It's also true that there is nothing to compare this run to yet, but it IS a Super Mario run and it is played better than any existing precedent. If future N64 movies show this movie up, the bar will be raised accordingly. Until that happens, why worry about it? To deny a movie a star because someone might make a better movie of a different game later, possibly, if we're lucky, seems a strange reason to deny it a star.
Using that reasoning, pretty much every movie published so far on the site should get a star. Not that I want to say this movie shouldn't have gotten one - in fact, I haven't formed an opinion on that at all yet -, but "it's entertaining" and "it's a new record" are not reasons to give a movie a star - they're reasons why a movie should be published at all and not rejected.

This is the complete game, yes.

1. Which patch tool are you using? Lunar IPS works for me; however, you have to extend the ROM file prior to patching it, as explained in the README file accompanying the patch. 2. "Super Mario World (U) [1].smc" should work. 3. What does being behind a firewall have to do with watching a movie? :) If you're referring to BitTorrent, I'm sure someone could upload a copy of the movie to archive.org (many other movies are mirrored there already, too).

I wonder about the star; I mean I understand and appreciate how beautiful the movie is, but IMO any star movie should be under 1:30.
Why?
But, that's just my two cents... it certainly is one of the most spectacular movies here.
See, that's why it got a star. :)

Hmm. I actually get a different error now:
error_handler:
	errstr=Invalid argument supplied for foreach()
	errfile=/shares/home/WWW/wikisites/nesvideos-site/modules/tracker.php
	errline=131

error_handler:
	errstr=Invalid argument supplied for foreach()
	errfile=/shares/home/WWW/wikisites/nesvideos-site/modules/tracker.php
	errline=137

error_handler:
	errstr=Invalid argument supplied for foreach()
	errfile=/shares/home/WWW/wikisites/nesvideos-site/modules/tracker.php
	errline=151
In any case, will that page be back, or is it going to get nuked for good now? I always thought it was rather interesting myself, considering it allowed you to see which movie had the most downloads, or the highest amount of bytes transferred, and so on. :)

Is it just me, or are the BitTorrent tracker stats broken currently? I get error messages along the following lines when I try to access them:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 8112 bytes) in /shares/home/WWW/wikisites/nesvideos-site/modules/tracker.php on line 72

The AVI's just been published, so you probably won't need to fiddle with ROMs and emulators anymore to watch it. :) Of course, at 373 MB, it's rather big, but it's definitely worth it.

I'd love to vote here, but I can't pick up the ROM(s) anywhere, so I'll be waiting for the .AVI .
You can get the ROM patch here (I know linking to ROM sites is a no-no, but since this one has just the patch, not the actual Super Mario World ROM you need to patch, I hope it's OK). If you want to use this patch, be sure to read the instructions on how to do so.

Whoa. :) I just finished watching it, and I'm *very* impressed - both with the game and the run. :)

I hope ROM hacks (and movies of them) are going to be taken on a case-by-case basis. Throwing the "must be well-known" qualifier out there undoubtedly disqualifies some well done, quality hacks that few have ever heard of (it's the internet, such a thing must exist somewhere). Instead of "few have heard of it, throw it out," I urge a review of any "unknown" hacks before simply tossing a movie of such a thing.
I second that. It's probably a better idea to judge all movies for hacked ROMs on a case-by-case basis instead of trying to enact general rules that govern what will and won't be accepted. Considering that there probably won't be that many movies for hacked ROMs, anyway, I think this is a luxury we can and should afford.

This hack is simply Mario in his own private Hell. The game forces you to take damage in order to progress, and does so in new and interesting ways. You can't ignore coins, because you need one extra life to spend in order to actually win. And when you do win, it's worse than the Princess being in another castle. It's almost like performance art. Level 3-2 is possibly the oddest thing I've ever seen done in a video game. It's certainly not a terrible hack: the Satanic Freak Bros. and its ilk from i-mockery.com are orders of magnitude worse. I'd "yes" this, but it appears I can't vote.
You need to have made at least a certain number of posts to vote (I'm not sure about the exact number, but it isn't that high - something like 10 or so, IIRC, but I'm not really sure, so don't quote me on that). I think this is mostly a measure designed to prevent people from signing up with multiple accounts and then voting several times on the same submission to swing the vote in their favour.

Yes, the problem is not in how Genisto played, but in the fact that hacks like these exist in an unlimited number.
This one seems to stand out, though, similar to how Super Demo World does - only that it stands out in the opposite direction, so to speak. :) Whereas Super Demo World is a very well-done modification, this one exceptionally bad - so bad that it almost deserves a spot in the limelight again. I'm definitely for publishing this, even if it's just so that I can show it to people who don't have the ROM etc. (and probably wouldn't know what to do with it, anyway).

This game really sucks imo. I haven't watched it and probably not since I already played that rom before this movie was submitted and I know this is an amateur hack.
The fact that the game sucks is not a reason why the run should or shouldn't be published, though. Many of the regular (official, non-hack) games that have published runs also do. :)
