>Shame this game suffers from some very bad >design flaws. The real shame is that there aren't more good, exploitable flaws. Good luck on Malkil. Make sure that he doesn't get off the edge of the screen. Yeah, for the passage you pretty much have to use Wizard 3. That is annoying.

I played with your jump through a block movie. It might matter that in the room, you are jumping against a flat block and outside, it is a ramp. I was able to duplicate your jump through block. For the ramp, I was able to glide on it and land on it twice too, so there is glitchiness. For how perfect the jumps need to be, a ramp to ramp jump might be easier, such as the one right above the blocker. Their ought to be a way to not need any knights.

I like your new graphic. The text goes noticibly faster. Also, you put the momentum storage to good use. After defeating the "weedy man" you go straight through the door without missing a beat. All of the jumping looks tight. Why does you WIP end in the middle of the gold thief battle? It would very very useful to skip the knight. From the picture, it looks like if you fell through there, you would just land underneath or get stuck in the rock. Or is it not solid inside like SMW? Good luck on executing the bug.

I played through the game twice really quickly. It had a whole bunch of weirdness, but only a little looked abusable. For area 1, you can skip the bow and arrow. For area 2, you can skip the glasses, key, and ID card. The gates can be walked through by ducking. So, you can skip the whole space vehicle part by using the teleport. You might want the ray gun for getting the 2 spondolacks in area and other stray monsters. However, the amount of time wasted by shuffling through items might make it worth waiting until area 6 to get the ray gun. In area 3 that space ship after the machine blocking the exit looks like it should be possible to get past if done right, but I tried a whole lot of jumping and was not able to do it. Area 4 seems completely linear. Is it me or are the mutation credits in area 5 useless? The robot isn't very different from your normal form, but you can't duck or anything. In area 6, I think to trigger events from the minigame, you need to get 2 5000 point dolls. I'm not sure. Since they give you more time, you want to get as few of them as possible. Also, the bouncing craft in the first area also appears to be a waste of time since you can walk right under the bouncing creatures. The boots look useful and if used with small jumps can be used without pausing. They seem to make all of you do damage, not just near your feet. For selecting items quickly, press select, then press the direction and immediately quit, that way the next item will be selected. Also, this means that getting unnecessary items will waste a lot of time as you have to scroll through them slowly. In many places, especially area 2, you can walk to the edge of the screen and interact with stuff that is not visible (that is probably 1 screen over). You can use it to climb up walls. Usually it just ends up getting you stuck. This might be possible to abuse, but I haven't found a good way yet. (Sort of like falling through the conveyor belt on Mr. Gimmick!, interesting, but usually just kills you) Those are my first thoughts for having just played the game for the first time. Note that since I have just played it twice now, some of it may not be accurate.

Please tell us what the trick is. All of those speech bubbles are really slow. On my system, the ROM is: >sha1sum wizwar3.nes 9c04e7357e5b39cfd9d0a119c52102197b4a1be0 wizwar3.nes I believe that the full name is: Wizards & Warriors 3 (U) but use the SHA1 to be sure. (So far this ROM has worked with Ferret Warlord's WIPs.)

Wow, you killed those statues quickly. Yes, getting level 3 wizard gives you level 2 also. If you go back and do 2, it puts you in level 3 form and has no effect on which levels you can select. It is nice to see they did some condition checking. Do you have a movie of falling through the floor? That could be useful. The enemies fall through everything as soon as you push them off of their preset tracks. I hope that if there is a fall through floors bug that it is easier to do than the one in Castlevania 2.

I tried changing the movie to start at power on, and it worked just fine. No resynchronization was needed. It looked really good. That other route past the window to disable the beehive was a lot better than mine. I didn't realize that you could jump that low and still get past the guard. >I promised a WIP once I beat the gold thief. >Well, I lied. Well, technically, you can still post a movie after you beat the gold thief and it won't be a lie.

Just so you know, since yours is faster and I don't have too much extra time, I will leave the run up to you. In my partial run, did you like the using the doors to send me back? Since the scrolling is fixed, it makes it more to do. (I like jumping off the platform and then using the door so I land on the same platform again, and then jump off.) You noted that you can jump off the air after going through a door or starting a statue area, right? As far as I can tell, that is the only way to make it to that first high platform for the wizard challenges without waiting for it to go all the way around. As for the other platforms, it looks like you just have to wait. I am looking forward to your next WIP.

>Man, it feels so wrong using your ideas in this run! >I almost feel unworthy to do this, leeching of of your >knowledge like this while all of mine turn out to be >bad. It doesn't bother me. This is all about beating the games as quickly as possible. I am honored that you like my ideas.

I tried again, taking my time and being careful about the jumping. Your movie is still ahead by about 200 frames by the time you beat the first "weedy man" guy. So, good job for that work in progress. I will try some more and see if I can start out well. I noticed that if you do a middle stab, the silver thief statue is more likely to dodge backwards, letting you kill him faster. Also, I think that you are right about getting the town princess with thief 3. Do you know how the momentum works when you stab? Sometimes it is kept, even though press B makes you stop, othertimes, I immediately lose it. I haven't quite figured it out yet.

Thank you for sharing your movie. I am aware that I miss a lot of jumps and just plain go in the wrong direction at some points. That is because that is a rough draft movie, just to make sure that route works and see if there are any major problems. I am also aware of the reset to title screen instead of that very slow credits screen. For the actual movie, I will put an 82 to make sure that it starts properly. (I think that that is good practice in general.) (Especially after wizwar2, where I had a similar problem.) I like the "weedy man" guy falling straight on your dagger. Also, your money collecting order is better than mine. The levitation is amazingly slow. Do you know if any of the spots that I used it are possible to jump by? I am betting that using the thief or knight might be faster in some places.

I made a first attempt. This is a rough draft. Scroll down to Wizards and Warriors 3. http://lingcog.iit.edu/~scubed/hobby.xml I made another optimization. I get the castle princess right after the Knight 1, since there is no reason to return to the castle. I agree about the "weedy man" guy jumping. If you don't, you can only get 1 or 2 hits per jump, which wastes a lot of time. Enjoy.

I played through the game again to get an idea of the route. Here is what I was thinking: 1) Get 200 gold 2) Buy 2 keys 3) Thief 1 Statue 4) Thief 1 Challenge 5) Buy 3 keys 6) Thief 2 Statue 7) Skip bee hive 8) Skip guard 9) Thief 2 Challenge 10) Thief 3 Statue 11) Skip bee hive 12) Town princess 13) Skip guard 14) Thief 3 Challenge 15) Knight 1 Statue 16) Knight 1 Challenge 17) Wizard 1 Statue 18) Wizard 1 Challenge 19) Use Knight 1 to destroy barrier to underground 20) Wizard 3 Statue 21) Wizard 3 Challenge 22) Fly up escape passage 23) Use Thief 3 speed to jump up other way avoiding bee hive 24) Fly up castle 25) Fly under guard 26) Rescue castle princess 27) Drop down, go to underground 28) Rescue underground princess 29) Fight dragon with Wizard 1 30) Open gate with 4 gems 31) Fight Malkil with Wizard 1 My first plan also had getting Knight 3, but you are right. He is useless. This plan skips: Wizard 2 Knight 2 Knight 3 (All worthless) To get past the bee hive, I found 2 ways: 1) Jump off the dog (usually involving getting hurt) 2) Scroll the screen so it is at the edge, and it might disappear To get past the town guard, I found 1 way: 1) Hit him, get stunned. While invincible, walk through him. I will post a movie showing this route later tonight. I know how to kill: Thief 1 Statue Wizard 1 Statue Wizard 3 Statue but, what I haven't figured out is how to kill the other statues efficiently. I think it might be faster just to get hit a lot. Does anyone here know? Also, is there any convenient way to dodge the asterisks for Malkil's 1st phase?

I could do Wizards and Warrior 3, but I don't know too many tricks for it. I know that you can jump through those blocking guys if you do it right (for example, to get level 3 thief early). Also, good jumping can get you past other barriers. But I don't think it would be too interesting to watch. Also, what is with the ending? That is weird. But, I agree. It would be good to have the whole trilogy.

That was very well done. I am not too comfortable with how you use a password to start with an extra weapon, but if you didn't you would have to wait unti area 2 to get the G. That invincible jumping around with G was impressive.

Comments: I just realized that FCEU works in Wine! (So I can use Blip's patch without difficulty.) This will make my life easier. Yay! Processing! Area 1: Yes, the cloud bouncing is strange. You have to fall from just over 1 level higher to get a bounce, otherwise you do a slower, lower regular jump. Some of the jumps, even at full height do not get me quite high enough to bounce, so I jump lower instead and do a regular jump to start bouncing again. As far as I can tell, it is not possible to completely bounce past the first gap in the cloud with the windbane, so I do a small bounce to make room, then a big bounce to get out. I'm not sure if that is what you meant about bounce, bounce, jump. Area 2: No, after going through a door, you move in a fixed direction briefly. I know of no way to prevent this. It is annoying, especially in the secret room with the 1-up inside the volcano (which I don't visit in this movie) because there is a gremlin right at the entrance that seems to be unavoidable. Area 3: I don't get any magic here. I don't know what you mean. I fill my magic to maximum right before the boss of area 2. I am full when I get the last magic from the fish. I came up with this new strategy since my last movie. It is possible that it could be done faster, but I don't know how. If you have a better strategy, I would love to hear it. Area 4: No, I can't do as you described because you can't jump over the hill as far as I've found. You need to use the double jump trick. It is the same for the hills at the bottom of Ice Fire mountain in area 5. However, the egg in area 1 can be obtained without using it, if you time it just right. (Or, the easy way is to just fall on it, but that would be way too slow for a movie.) No, as noted in my submission, the bug costs me nearly a second to execute, but I think it is more interesting than fighting him the normal, boring way. Area 5: Right. That fight is slow. There is a way to hit the heads and take off about half of their HP with a single hit. I haven't figured out the specifics yet. I use this only once in the movie (to air). It should be possible to do it more times. Note that I use the infinite magic in this final battle. I don't think it has anything to do with the amount of health you have. I think you just need full magic. I got a big time savings by optimizing my cave jumping. I hope that that answers your questions. If not, please reask and post the approximate frames involved from the movie.

Thanks to everyone who has voted. What are the exact criteria for a movie to get published? Does it have to be above a certain percentage and above a certain confidence? What are these values?

Why do you get the invincibility on the 2nd map? Is that just for variety? It appears that you also miss a few times on the alligator. For the boss of the game, how come you can shoot him twice at the end, but not at the beginning? Or does this have to do with his getting closer to you?

Is there a reason that you stop shooting when you flip over? For example, on the 4th boss, you go right past him and then walk above him, then shoot him. You could get an extra shot or 2 by shooting while falling up past him. I liked your jumping around on boss 6. How come the 2 battles with boss 2 are different? You kill the first turret while walking towards it the 2nd time. As was already pointed out, this game should be played on hard.

It was one of the earlier most compatible emulators. I haven't used many different emulators since using it, but I think it had movie recording before most also. It suffered from desync problems though. Once FCEU came out, I switched to it (especially since my main computer runs Linux). It is a much better emulator (also considering that it is open source, has Blip's patch, and supports even more games than Nesticle).

I touch the tree edge when falling into the forest intentionally. If you land straight on the ground, you get hurt and are stunned for a while. Similarly for falling in the volcano. (Try stopping the movie there, he will sit down and swing his leg for a while because he hurt it.) I also tried jumping versus sliding down trees for the many little ramps that are around. Sliding is faster. When you jump you automatically slow down a lot. After sliding, you get full speed if you touch ground. I think that I did miss a little on some jumps, but others I go a little further to control my momentum. What specifically do you think could not be done on the console? I actually have this game on the console. I have done all of this except for the not getting hit after beating the water boss. Usually you lose all of your life before getting to the sword piece. Of course, I usually get beat up by the boss of the game too, and for convenience I hold down A for jumping instead of releasing the button timed well for each jump. (If you would like, I can post a movie of me playing regular with no rerecords (and most likely dying at the last guy).) I haven't figured out how to control which way a boss moves in response to getting hit. If it is in the same direction, it takes about half his life. I do this to the wind elemental in this movie. I do it to the ground elemental in the prototype movie. That battle is much faster in this version. If I could figure it out better, yes, that battle would be easier and faster.
