The door transition thing seems like a major glitch to me...

I'm gonna have to agree that the run strikes me as belongings to a different category than the "no major glitches any%" on speedrun.com The whole "take a door to one room, end up in a different room" doesn't fly for me. The recent super Metroid tas was controversial and all it was doing was going backwards though doors in a way. For this case though i think it's even worse.

Also worth nothing, the current any% speedrun is 1h 23m 19s. The TAS is 1:16:11.05. Kind of embarrassing.

Yeah the current run is from two thousand freaking 9. It really needs an update. Update doesn't need to be perfect.

Except a super jump is just a means of going fast. It's a technique for modifying your speed.

I intuitively understand some people's disappointment, but I'm not sure how exactly to define a category that would make them happy other than banning glitches completely arbitrarily. For instance, some people are upset that you can superjump through locked doors. But keep in mind the Torizo door is locked kinda maybe sorta and speedruners never respect that, nevermind TASers. That being said the aesthetic of superjumping is frankly awful. If you zip rather than dash, then rather than flying past segments of level you straight up don't get to see them. The graphics glitching out of the cherry on top. But what is this new category that you'd like to see? "no superjumping" doesn't make any sense. That's way too specific to the game. "no out of bounds" is sensible. For instance castlevania games use a similar category. "kills all bosses" is sensible too. "doesn't use cheats" is also reasonable. For instance Celeste. If anything the name of the category needs to be changed. Rather than "no major glitches" it should be: * No OOB * Kills all bosses * Foregoes cheat codes

Well, there are a lot of movement mistakes, at least up to the basement, which is as far as I've watched.
There's a lot of mistakes in general, but it really shows that a lot of new time saving glitches have been discovered since 2009.

I think I'd like to see 100% doom runs more, so there would be a lot more of murderzoning dudes.

Very good improvement to a previously accepted submission.

I believe this run should be accepted because it's a faster run without entertainment tradeoffs. I think adelikat made a mature judgment in line with the site's philosophy rather than getting involved in this ugly dispute. I hope that people who have insulted and flamed other users are banned from the forums.

Lets wait until the tas is submitted to judge it. thefinalboss won't be convinced that he should not work on this tas, so all that's left to do is judge if it should be published or not. This will be judged when the tas is submitted.

Is it possible that changing Soma's luck stat (by equipping a +lck soul for instance) could help with impossible soul drops?

So does ISM's discovery mean that the any% can be improved?

You should specify in the description exactly what the entertainment trade offs included are, and why you included them.

mmbossman: There's a lot more hopping in this one. Flags are always tagged at the bottom when possible instead of wherever. Sections where Mario does stuff like walk through walls are completely different. I'd say this deserves publication for sure. Maybe later after both movies have been optimized more, if they can be proven to be nearly identical they can be merged.

I don't think this should obsolete the USA version either, I'd be very disappointed if it did. I ultimately found the USA version more entertaining.

After watching that, I think a hard mode or hard mode level 1 cap tas would be much more interesting.

If you think this run is crazy, you should see the one they're going to come out with next.

In Super Metroid Snes9x 1.51 was shown to be less accurate than 1.43, right? I'm asking because I wonder if we should stick to 1.43 even though there has been a push to increase use of 1.51.

I recommend to stick to 1.43+. Not only do you avoid a risk to experience annoying desyncs, it's emulation is also more accurate to the real SNES during door transitions, as JXQ proved a couple of years ago. That, and the direct realtime comparison to the previous run would also be possible, which is a good thing.
Anything about bsnes that makes it not ready for prime time?

Hmm, judging from that youtube video, namespoofer could work together with Taco and Kriole and save at least 50 frames. Obviously it's not that simple though. EDIT: Wow mother brain is a frame eating monster :O
