Watched it thank to Aktan's encode (mp4 encode sound seems off, btw).
I just checked the encode with VLC and mplayer and both play it back fine - please elaborate on what seemed off.

I haven't watched this as yet, but I recall raising concerns about Oil Ocean which don't seem to have been addressed from the previous run (is it possible to continue across the surface for most/all of the level as in the currently published run in the absence of spindashing?

Not exactly - this deals with encode filenames, whereas the movie renaming project was aimed at input filenames.

We do have http://tasvideos.org/Stars.html - which is probably very underused. 'Notable publication' status (i.e. moons) are explained in the publisher guidelines. In other words, we do have official explanations, but they're probably nearly impossible to find for the average viewer right now.

This run isn't sufficiently varied to make for an interesting demonstration of a fighting game. I agree with the above comments that use of multiple players and multiple fighters is desirable in runs of games of this genre. I vote No.

Dear Truncated: this is not Kregorio's first submission - it is his fifth.

Merged thread on Laser Jumper into this thread. For the record, I seem to be the unofficial thread merger pending a feature allowing all moderators to do so, so in lieu of a 'report' button send me a PM if you want threads merged in the future.

What if there is a playaround and TAS of the same game though?
In that case, "playaround" can be specified as a branch, e.g. "-tas-playaround". This is mostly for the case of games which don't lend themselves to speedruns, such as Brain Age.

I'll be the first to suggest it here: Brain Age.

It's been pointed out to me that the publication guidelines currently stipulate that in the case of non-speed-oriented movies, "-playaround" should be used instead of "-tas". This has only been loosely enforced in the past (cf. International Super Star Soccer Deluxe) and there's some question as to whether this should continue to be the case. I personally think "tas" can be interpreted as "tool-assisted superplay" and applied to all videos; "-playaround" does not necessarily suggest tool assistance. Thoughts?

There are at least two major problems I can see with reviving this concept. First, this would need emulation software to be installed on the server, with all of the requisite ... support files; this would take up a large amount of disk space and might not be easy to assemble, not to mention many of the emulators currently in use are Windows-specific (and difficult to capture from in the Linux environment the server uses). Second, the capturing process would require the emulator to be run, slowing things down on the server even more than they usually are. Our encoders and publishers are already fairly reliable at screenshot capturing, and I don't think the prospect of a handful automated screenshots is worth the above sacrifices.

I'd love to see 'list all submissions by this player' inside the profile box, and, as a pipe dream, list all movies published. Right now, if you click on a profile, the circulum vitae only gives minimal information.
I've added links to the relevant lists to the profile.

Although I'm not a fighting game expert, when I compare this to the other published arcade fighting runs, I must conclude that the others are significantly faster-paced and display much better use of combos. This either means that the game isn't well suited to that (which I find hard to believe) or that the technical merit of this run isn't up to scratch. It's not bad; it's just not up to the standard of the other movies. I vote Meh. I'm also encoding this for ease of viewing by others. EDIT: Encode: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?1ceen2qnuon - there seems a slight visual glitch in my logo, but the run itself is fine.

Ah, the DS. There are some games where the touch screen isn't really used very well and doesn't lend itself to very effective TASing. (We've seen submissions of some of those games, which were rightly rejected.) And then there are games where the input is complex enough that it lends itself to outrageous forms of abuse. This is one of those games. Yes vote. Encode: http://www.archive.org/details/DsBrainAgeByRyutoIn0408.1 and direct link: http://www.archive.org/download/DsBrainAgeByRyutoIn0408.1/brainage-playaround-ryuto.mp4 Here are the recommended screenshots:

This is hilariously fast-paced and action-packed. Yes vote. And good work with the encoding!

We have renamed the increasingly-misnamed role of Movie editor to Vested editor. In conjunction with this, Vested editors now have the ability to move and delete (in a non-permanent fashion) wiki pages.

Also consider adding your name and any desired additional information to the recently-created Encoders page. And please keep in mind that I go by Grunt on IRC, so I am the Grunt mentioned above. :p

In keeping with my practice of deferring to the author's recommended screenshots, I've replaced the screenshot.

That was me - since the two are equal in-game, I thought it made sense to have both. I've removed "damage" to be consistent with the other Contra runs.
