(Belatedly) merged two threads on this game. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

Hooray! If I may ask, what are you planning to do with the AVIs? We can always use more encoders (see also the Encoders' Corner forum).

This is awesome! It must have been an absolute headache to put together, and I congratulate you for it. Now, what about, say, the current Mega Man 2 run? Seeing the map jump around all over the place would be hilarious.

Have you tried moving Gens to another folder, one with no Ö's, Ä's, Å's or other such characters?
Yes, just tried. Not working. This is so annoying me. *Sigh*
Can I ask where you moved the folder to, and if you've tried the same with FCEUX? I maintain that what you're seeing should only be happening in the event that the emulator can't deal with the folder name for some reason.

With some of the points here, it doesn't sound like you want this submission to continue, in which case you should cancel it - go to the submission page, click 'Edit', select the 'set to cancelled' button, and save the page.

Requesting encode with soft subtitles (not burned in).
To do that, we'd need subtitles that are in a subtitle format that can be embedded as opposed to a Lua script.

I've belatedly created a YT3D encode for this; see it here: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=5DA4DE5D956CD7DB I'll add the link to the movie proper once part 2 finishes processing.

In the hopes of obsoleting my own first encode, I'm encoding this. Stay tuned. EDIT: encode details page here; direct link: http://www.archive.org/download/SmsKenseidenIn0651.78ByAngerfist/kenseiden-tasv2-angerfist.mp4 Semi-uninspired screenshot:

In the event that this movie is accepted, an encode without subtitles (or with soft subtitles as opposed to hard subtitles) would be desirable. The subtitles currently aren't in a form conducive for embedding as soft subtitles, however; they'd need to be re-written in a more traditional subtitle format (.sub or .srt text files) for that to be possible. In the absence of that, I think an argument could be made for publishing both a non-subtitled encode and this hard-subtitled encode due to the large utility of the subtitles in this case.

hikaru, please try to post your work in one of the game threads before officially submitting it in the queue; it will help us point out the more obvious flaws before they reach the harsh eyes of the judges and other interested viewers. You still seem to have a long way to go to grasp some of the guidelines and rules of the queue; posting your submissions for early feedback will help those who are interested in the games you are running to offer more direct advice in a less judgmental environment. Also please look to see if there are other runs of the game, particularly those that take the time to actually complete the game. Voting no on the basis that this doesn't present a complete run-through of the game and doesn't really offer anything over and above the currently published run (in my opinion).

I feel obligated to vote no in light of probable improvements to AR2 and possible improvements in a few other places as previously outlined by mike89 and myself. I would be interested in seeing a more optimised version of this run, however.

Hmm... Have you just tried saving to C:\ or some location which is not a sub-folder of your desktop? I'm wondering if the ös are causing problems in being able to open the file.

There are a variety of things that could be going wrong to generate that message. I've offered a couple of suggestions above. Where are you trying to save the AVI file? What file name are you using? (Does that file already exist?)

Hi and welcome! What's the exact error message you're seeing? I've seen similar errors crop up in a handful of circumstances - some emulators will complain if you don't specify the .avi suffix (or your filename is otherwise invalid), for example, or you can't write to the location you've specified

There's more to encoding than just running that script, though most of the tools for currently-employed encoding methods do indeed originate from Linux. Which distribution it is you're using probably doesn't matter significantly as long as you're able to install (at least) x264, mencoder, and an audio encoder of your choice (for which packages should be available). Most of the command lines in the Windows guides would be applicable with those packages installed. (The Linux guides there are currently rather obsolete, so don't bother with them.)

I've reset the obsoletion. If anyone wishes to challenge the decision not to have the obsoletion be in place, please post your rationale here.

Voting no on the basis that this fails to complete the game, or, in the event that this is everything there is, that the hack is incomplete.

It's been pointed out (on IRC) that this run was submitted by one BBkaizo, whereas the author is Hadron. Does Hadron know his run has been submitted here, and is he okay with this?

False. Hacks are acceptable; they are just judged alongside the rest of the submission.
