yeah... that really sucks about the saving. especially when i was doing the mask. basically, just pausing gameplay entirely with PAUSE and then letting go of all the keys, pressing the save combo and then holding them all back and unpausing was the only way i found around it. similar to frame advance i suppose... does the new version have that?

awesome! u guys watched it! YAH!! anyhow, in the asteroid levels i was more focused on going between asteroids than anything. so the blue... things... were secondary and not really a big concern. but too many can cause a 1-up. its kind of tough to know what would be entertaining there. Pete is a bit tough. the asteroids do varying damage (the large ones do 10+ and the medium ones do something below that). so keeping that up would require more knowledge than i had time for. ill try that in the future... but at the time, this was much safer. the only place i saw id really have trouble with was with the very short platforms and 2 tentacles. the shots are also hard as hell to get right. barely tapping the button usually results in 2 shots fired unless doing it frame by frame. finals week is coming up, so ill have to cut back a bit on doing these (Road Runner i SHOULD be working on though). but, its prolly better considering im sure someone will come in and make a boatload of suggestions and errors i made. thank you for your comments! im glad to know ppl actually got it to work.

ok. well, ill finish this up then. even now im iffy about a submission even though ive put in a LOT to it. dont let rerecords fool ya, i generally stop the movie after a level and play through the next at 50-33% (or less if needed) to get a feel for it. so there should be a LOT more rerecords. FINAL EDIT: FINISHED! http://nvdata.pilif.ch/EwJ_by_ssd.zip let me know whether i should submit this or leave it as a WiP. also, im deleting all OLD links as well.

they came out at the same time i think. it was 94? anyhow, this got game of the year for GENS while DKC won over on SNES. of course, this was according to some gaming magazine from back in the day, so im not sure how useful that info is. EDIT: there was a PC version as well that had ALL the levels. what i mean is, it seems SNES got WHO TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS but didnt get INTESTINAL DISTRESS. GENS got the exact opposite it looks like.

hmm... the perfect synchro does seem to affect the sound at points though (sometimes a SFX is used and the next time it isnt); but im not gonna debate it since i know NOTHING about the technicalities. anyhow, it still works fine for me.

yeah... i think the song on the OSTs like 20+ minutes and its FILLED with crap (i remember well because my PSX crapped out during these credits and i had to redo that final "battle") from all the characters lives (which might not be so bad if you do a minimal party thing). oh, this looks very nice BTW. i know i dont post much in RPG threads, but i cant wait for em!

i remember someone saying it leads to the Who turned out the lights but then i saw the later post. however, in the SNES version, i remember debugging it until i got to those levels so they may be in Gens as well (never owned it for gens). EDIT: me, find a fix? nah... in just use 9c with perfect synchro. works fine for me. EDIT 2: wait, now that i think about it, i changed the BUTTON CONFIG to 3 instead of 6; i know this sometimes messes with the game (kudos to Truncated when i was doing X-men 2 and eventually got Wolverine for the first level by this). but that was just randomness... maybe it affects other things as well?

thats the SNES version i think. ive got a WiP up to level 4 (Down the Tubes, pt 2 aka Tube Race) i will put up IF i can get SmartFTP to install here. if not, it should be up by tonight when i get home. oh, and i went ahead and beat Psycrow in Andy's Asteroids each time.

i tried avoiding flags as best i could. i think the one in 2 was in my route to the trampolene. i didnt use my energy all the way because i was doing these as i go. its still a WiP and i just wanted to get enough of it done to see what it was like as well. overall, the games fun and frustrating to do. as far as avoiding all flags? not sure. i mean, if i had to tiptoe around one and take extra time, i dont think it'd help in the long run. Caz, could you elaborate a bit on the jumping? i know this is rough, but i want to know EXACTLY what you mean to make sure. thanks for commenting BTW. :)

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1746 TNSe quotes it as being a pure walkthrough. it just gave me the idea. i understand the difference between rough planning and most optimized.

skimmed through here and saw no topic with the name... so i figured id ask. what are your thoughts on fast walkthroughs? and what exactly defines a fast walkthrough? is it that the game is too linear and there are no glitches to exploit or is it that the game is painstakingly long and boring no matter how well played it is (ie: player is not at fault)? and... should there be a small section dedicated to them? not published into AVI, just left in movie format so as not to waste space.

DL here: http://nvdata.pilif.ch/road_runner_dvr_WiP.zip or http://nvdata.pilif.ch/ (and look for road runner) ok, so i mainly wanna know whether this is ENTERTAINING or if its just a FAST WALKTHROUGH? keep in mind, ive skipped all that i can as far as "cutscenes" go... some of those are just mandatory. im posting this because im stuck on the fifth level as well and am getting sick of running in circles. so if someone wants to complete this, its fine with me. in case anyones wondering, ive taken a slight trip into nostalgia land and am revisiting some old games. anyhow, post comments and such. EMU - snes9x v1.43+ tick WIP1 timing & Fake mute desync workaround oopsies... its the USA version. :)

if i get disembowled by a crack baby on the way home tonight, today will still have been a good day because of this. definite YES. a single question though... in the gutsdozer level, what was the reason for the second rush/rocket? it was right before "water" part ended.

hmm... um, im gonna throw these in here but im not sure what is meant by silly (im taking it means it would be boring/useless no matter how optimized): *1943 (NES) *Dick Tracy (NES) the gameplay is far too repetetive and you cant advance in 1943 until it allows you to (ive never played 1942, so that may fall in the same catagory, im not sure). Dick Tracy is just... well... http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1878 ...dull.

i thought about this for a while when it was first introduced. though ive never voted MEH, i think a situation where the movie is VERY WELL PLAYED but not entertaining or something like that is where id vote MEH. but in general, theres rarely anything ive ever seen on this site like that. its usually a yes or no.

thanks to pilif, the zip can be obtained here: http://nvdata.pilif.ch/Dick_Tracy_(U)_Beta_by_ssd.zip or go to the site and look for it should the direct link fail: http://nvdata.pilif.ch/ anyhow... heres some stuff i typed up while doing it and reviewing it on my own. note, THIS MAY BE MONOTONOUS. so when you get done with it and say I WANT MY HALF AN HOUR BACK, remember that YOU WERE WARNED ill let the notes do the rest
first and foremost, i did not plan to do THIS game. i wanted to do Platoon. but Platoon would have felt more like a fast walkthrough at the time and i instead opted for this. and why i thought Dick Tracy was going to be any different? No clue... hahaha, mystery = no clue, get it? ... n/m, i know that wasnt funny. ok... this movie is demanding. its still in beta but ive optimized routes as i replayed it (since its the same "overworld" regardless, only the interior buldings alter) and am rethinking some methods for quick playthrough. its 26 minutes that are somewhat monotonous (my girlfriend said it wasnt as entertaining as anything id done before). so why hand it over to you? well... someone requested it and i remember having a love/hate with this game when i was younger. so i decided to see if this could be fun or not. ok, so you've been WARNED! if it wastes your time, im sorry. but, here are some things i noticed going through: GLITCH: invinciblity yup. it only works effectively with animals though (DOG, RAT). what happens is, you get hit... but so long as you get hit and continue to get hit at regular intervals, you wont take more damage. so, to use this well, you need something that can move with you and deal constant damage. Rats and Dogs are it... there are some parts where enough gunfire can work as well, but its MUCH less reliable. so why am i not too happy with this? well... because Rats and Dogs are RARE and to use them well enough is even more rare. so its only useful in a few areas. OTHERS: -jumping, firing a gun and punching will stop you in your tracks. jumping will once you land and it takes a moment to get going again. guns do the same when in place; when jumping, you will be halted in mid-air IF you aim downward or press in another direction. punching is odd; depending on how early/late you punch, it may not slow you down as much. -jumping through platforms or close to things like platforms and then hitting JUMP again will sometimes cause you to continue the jump. this i use quite a few times and explains most of the rerecord count. i know its something like what is done in the MARIO movies, but am not sure of terminology. -shooting enemies with NO GUNS will result in health deductions. so you have to punch them. rats cannot be killed except for tear gas (either that or i am a HORRIBLE shot). dogs? dogs i saw twice and since the second one helped me find the glitch, i found no need to kill him. -ammo is refreshed when you visit the police station -after a chase, if you were spinning before it went to the INTERROGATION/ARREST, you will still be spinning afterwards when returning to the map (i slipped into it a few times to show it... its a pain). -on the OVERWORLD, to enter a building you have to touch the text and then not touch anything. i find this out at the end of "Mission" 2. -im unsure of how climbing works entirely. i sometimes can leap off quickly and sometimes cannot... i dont know what it is. -lastly, i went by a FAQ entirely (so this is more of a fast walkthrough... even though on the last mission, the FAQ was a little misleading). i am not sure if you need all the clues to arrest or can take liberties here and there. this could VASTLY improve this movie. im almost sure in my mind that this is NOT entertaining and cannot be because of how repetetive it is (like 1943). but, i present it to you all to judge as well. i did this to see what it was like and to see if it would be possible to do at all... and i honestly dont think so UNLESS you used the SAFE combonations to advance to the last mission... that or find a way around all those clues. which while ill attempt, i make no guarantee because ive got a lot of stuff to do in school. anyhow, for ad3n, here you go. its beta, its flawed, and its the first time i played this game in over 10 years.

YES. definite yes. i take into account that as a fighting game, im not gonna see much aside from you beating the crap out of the CPU... and that each character has limited ways to fight... now barring in mind that im going to sit and watch this, i know its already got some MEH in it regardless. but DAMN was that entertaining. very nice work Saturn. i cant wait to see what else can be done in the "fighting" genre.

ok, so im playing around with it and noticing that freaking text at the bottom in bright red is NOT going away and i can NOT see the pitfalls and smaller enemies coming at me. so i go up into the options and hit HIDE MENU figuring this is what will do the trick. but no... my OTHER MENU, the one that i actually use, goes away. how can i fix this? aside from closing out and restarting (unless i can do so without losing information on my movie). please help. and also, is there a way to make the red text go away faster or no appear at all? its really annoying in some parts. thanks.
