i dont come back for one day and i get all these replies? damn... :) well, anyhow... im not wanting to do this one again... desyncing causes route changes that shouldnt have to happen. i should in the future, i know. but at the moment, im a little sick of the game. I THANK YOU ALL for the advice given. all of which i was completely unaware of. should someone else like to try, i wouldnt mind. i was trying the original X-men but cant do that one because of the whole Gens RESET thing. oh well. on some notes
i was playing through and happened to just start and i started with nightcrawler. i have no idea how this one happened (i cant even remember the button configs! dammit...). i didnt know nighty could go through the floor on the pyramid level with Tusk (the boss who throws rocks). Id tried but that didnt go well. apocalypse is definitely worth a try. only if you can beat him in the first round though. otherwise, it'd be too boring to watch that whole bomb fiasco again. also, if you carefully place yourself when battling apocalypse, you can make him NOT use that attack of his (strange mace like thing). im still not sure, but on the second half of the battle, that was what i was trying for. the 2nd level tips are good as well, as are the Savage Land Complex parts. I'm not sure about the Beast either. hes very BIG and i dont know if he could outmanuver some of the bosses attacks. and i knew about the flip... i thought i did that one more. anyhow, id most likely have to use that with the teleport at points. and thats a problem. the minute i start charging for a teleport, it cancels the flip/roll in mid air. i just start falling (you may have noticed this before).
sorry if this disappoints anyone. but please, if someone wishes to make it better, do so by all means. when i first posted it here, i wasnt sure whether it was going to be entertaining or not.

At the enemy base thing with savages and yellow aliens, you take some nifty shortcuts with the teleport, but sometimes it seems like you stand still and wait for the teleport to charge to max. Just start charging earlier. on the first complex (blue building of the savage lands), if you mean how i sort of "dawdled" to get the 45 degree left teleport to work, it was more leverage. but i agree on whole about the teleporting being maxed. the only problem is timing and how its done. chraging the teleport early may cancel out the jumps i need to make it that far in the first place (i believe it did so for the crawling bit at the beginning for complex 2). Also I remember some place where you went too far on a ledge when you had to switch directions , and that you had to teleport away from a savage while destroying the blocks in front of a door. that irritating little jerk. perhaps if i'd of killed him or sailed further over him or done something different, he wouldnt have gotten to me. ill be trying that differently for sure. I can check the framecounts later. Would you rather have them in min:sec:fr than just frame by the way? the min:sec:fr i'd prefer as i have to guess when hitting esc and i usually miss it by a frame or so. with min and sec, i can slow the game down and watching it.
Or should I stop pestering you alltogether? :P
dont be silly, at least you have valuable input. and that is what i wish to get more of. but i have to admit, when i saw your last post, i think i just stared at the screen blankly for a few seconds before even attempting to type.

...well, i did ask for it... hahaha thanks for the links as well, everyone. Level 2: The computers at frame 7273, 7970, 11900 aren't destroyed at the edge, so you have to walk longer than neccesary afterwards. there are some overall teleportation issues. it seems to have specific space you will go to that it glitches to. a little like the jump kicking glitch where nightcrawler goes forward. it has to do with placement i think...of objects and such. and i did try it on some edges and all i got was 2 hits and 3 are needed to kill the things. At 7770 somewhere, you should try to land before falling down so you can jumpkick left directly when passing the ledge. 8070, 9045 same thing. am doing so. At elevator, I think you can jump + teleport earlier. done. Level 3: 9210, you should jumpkick after bouncing from the enemy instead of stomping. jump kick as in the 45 degree angle or jump kick as in where i sail across the room? im taking it as the prior and have somewhat tweaked. Some of the jumps+kicks in the narrow corridors are of different height/length. Find out which way is faster and stick with it. have done so. Nightcrawlers double jump gives a speed boost as well as a height boost - can it be abused more? you'll see... With wolverine, for example going up the pyramid, it looks like you don't hit the edge of platforms when jumping and then switching directions. ah, heres a tricky little thing. if i hit the jump once more, he would have done a little spin in the air. thats if i hit it too soon. Too short teleport at 15390. Always use full distance when possible. gotcha. however, to do a teleport in midair when trying to jump far seems to require that you not be able to fully complete the jump (C) or not attempt a kick (B). You could probably have done one more jumpkick after falling below the ledge just before the exit. that last ledge is a pain. you don't even reach the edge and it knocks you over to the elevator. Level 4: Just at the end with the four mines, make sure you don't hit the right wall and wait to drop down to the exit. fixxxer'd up'd. Level 5: Boss is a lot better but I can still see him stop blinking sometimes. Is the stomp the fastest way or just the most convenient one? The teleport looks like it scores hits faster, but maybe it doesn't help since he goes invincible for a while. i have tried refixing this. the problem is the timing between the headstomp and when the next one will occur. Cortez goes invincible but can still damage your character. i try and do it sooner but he gets me afterwards. and if i do it later, he gets me afterwards. Level 9: Some jumpslashes are longer than others. As before, find out the best way. have found a faster way, no worries. When you jump up platforms, it doesn't look like you hit them on the very end. explained earlier. What's the point of using Wolv and not NC here? Is Wolvering that much faster on the boss. he is much stronger and yes, he is faster than nightcrawler (not level wise, but he more than makes up for it on the boss). And the boss: he stops blinking sometimes. Hit him sooner. he does. and i tried hitting him sooner but he would damage me. so i just have to wait until he gets back into position. Level 10: Possible to take damage and go trough first spikepole? it desyncs sometimes because of this. 37660, do you really need to hit the switch? You teleport trough the spikepoles anyway, that should be even easier if it's moving towards you. If you really need to hit the switch you should teleport sooner anyway, now you stand still for no apparent reason for a while. (This is the portion I was talking about previously) suppose not. i will fix that. Why hit the switch at 38800 somewhere? I think you can go trough here anyway. Is it to get the next portion faster? Maybe in other words: do the switches affect all the spikepoles or just one line? (It seems like yes but I want to make sure.) this area is different. see those pillars? i cant teleport through them so i have to break them, which to be done well enough would require a teleport. however, i also need teleports to get through the spikes. Level 11: No ideas. Or maybe one silly one. Does it matter how much you hit him before he comes out the last time? Maybe it's faster to leave him alone the first time. i believe it to be cumulative but that cant be either because i clearly do more damage to him and get a slower time. ill compare the two movies before attempting this once more.

What I meant was, why did you submit a run that you knew could be improved several seconds? The submission queue is for runs intented to be published, and you probably knew your run wouldn't be published given those facts. was more of an appeasing thing i think. i wanted to show my progress and i dont really have a website or anything. and i never really do know what people are going to publish. the beast thing... i honestly had 3/4ths of the game done by then (hence me posting "DAMMIT") and didnt think that wolverine would be that much faster on the first level than Beast. but i am redoing it all none the less. and yes, i do have strange logic. As for being sloppy, I meant that you didn't redo parts which you knew was slower than last time (i.e the bosses). i did actually. several times over. but the result was always the same. apocalypse was originally taking me about 5 more seconds so i really dont know what the hell his deal is. and some of the boss battles were miscalculations (thats why i thought i ran over by a second when i actually had lost no time). they are a second or so slower, but the frame rate is the same or less. I didn't see any other bad parts upon first inspection, except possibly for hitting an unneccesary switch in the pyramid where you could have teleported trough the spikey poles. okie doke. if there is anything that you do see, be sure to let me know so i can either explain or clean it up. im back to the game now but its constant desyncing (once for every level, and i am NOT joking) is making it more painful than it should be. ive had to re-alter strats several times already; so when you see it and say something along the lines of "why didnt he just jump through that enemy" or something like that, please try and keep this in mind. i did originally, did not get hit, and good times were had by all. however, during playback, it screwed up and bad times were had by all. (i try and take this with humor now rather than screaming at programs and glorified calculators). Gens players should seriously get a therapy support thread for dealing with the heartache of desyncing.

Well, that's not quite going to solve everything, as there are a few times where you'll have to cast Size or Toad on yourself (and be unable to use Onion or any other equipment during that time), as well as the occasional instance where a boss is only going to be weak vs. a certain class's weapon/skill/magic and is resistant to pretty much everything else.
actually, as far as the toad and size thing, from what i can recall, i could still kill enemies in one shot with onion equipment. i know theres something about not being able to USE those items, but i could. this would apply to the SIZE issue. toad is different. maybe leave one character as a variable then? like a red mage or a thief when the time calle for it (no one wants to see too many battles). also, while we're at it with the item duping thing, i think theres a way to reset the encounter rate. its randomly determined by the number of steps taken or spaces moved. however, it will be reset if the character/party is healed. you could use this along with a lot of potions or any other healing items to reduce encounters. the only problem is i think the character actually has to be damaged for it to count. but i never really used it, just heard about it in various FAQs. the only boss i could think of that would be tough is Geruda (Dragoon would be a BIG must here in almost any case... that and a load of luck). however, with enough time and save states (perhaps a bit of dumb luck manipulation as well), i killed him with 4 Onion Knights. the equipment will make your characters gods, no doubt about that.
julianch, a word of advice: Bisqwit does not accept runs made with fan translations of games. So your run, even if it were completed and perfect, would never appear on the site unless you do the run with the Japanese FF3
this might not be a problem actually. if one knows the game well enough, then the text shouldnt matter. aside from that, you could always play through the game once in the translation, remember what is important where and then go and play through on the japanese version. id like to see this as i think it has easy potential of being done (especially because of the FEOK... funny how that almost feels like a curse word... hahaha). best of luck to anyone attempting it. id LOVE to see that rerecord count.

qFox, that was the one i remembered as well. it was such a neat little thing and i was too young to understand what the hell it was (let alone comprehend glitch). no one believed me and i could never get it to work again. likewise, would this make for an interesting time attack? i mean, you'd be small as hell AND have fire power. i cant remember if breaking blocks was something you could do or not. i wanna see phil and genisto's new SMB movie right now. oh, and BTW, HOLY CRAP! my DL speed is like 200+ KB. damn... thats... WOW. what else... well, the Metal Gear glitches were fun at first but by the time i tried a time-attack, they were no longer interesting... felt more like it was suppose to be a part of the game than an actual glitch.

Only thing which I noticed was the stage with insects and plants looked a bit sloppy, but maybe it was because you took more hits there. truncated suggested to take damage there to save time. overall, there are a few seconds saved on each of the FALLING parts that are saved which adds up to quite a bit.

Umm... so why the heck did you use Beast for the first stage, when I came up with a way to use Wolverine? over the holidays, ill rework it. as i said in the post, you posted that when i was close to completing the movie. And some boss battles are slower? Why didn't you just redo them then? some may have been slight miscalculations. they arent significantly slower (i took into account the seconds, not frame rate for the most part when doing this). but apocalypse is slower for unknown reasons... i mean, i did more damage but it still ended up being a bit slower. and the master brain got that hit off on me every time i tried. thats the only reason it really goes slower. There are some nice new routes, especially with the teleport move (obviously - it's three minutes faster than the last submission), but that doesn't mean you are allowed to be sloppy in other parts. finals ends here on friday. ill start a new one then. but please elaborate on the sloppy parts you mean. id like to know if its something other than boss battles.

The teleporting makes all the running back and forth a little more watchable. while entertaining as hell (i agree they're fun), they slow me down a bit. Your starting character depends on if player one is using a 6-button or a 3-button controller. 6-button: Player 1 Wolverine Player 2 Cyclops 3-button Player 1 Beast Player 2 Psylocke Just change to 6-button and you can do the first stage a lot faster. I haven't found any way to start as Nightcrawler. ...DAMMIT! oh well... it doesnt have nighty, but i guess wolvie would be better. that configuration is a bit irritating... oh, and i always use a 6-button, so i dont know why i start as beast and not wolvie. odd... ill look into it. One of the faqs says that Beast is stronger than Wolverine. I doubt it, but something to test in the boss-only stages perhaps. i think he is as well but he is SLOW... i mean grudging. and a hulking pain in the butt who isnt as "slippery" as wolvie or nightcrawler. Also, I did some testing on jumpkicking with NC. He can indeed only kick once per jump, but if you jump low and kick on the way down instead of the way up, he'll 1) be ready for a new jump sooner 2) glitch forward a bit when he lands (if he's still in the jump kick animation) I think this is faster than doing long jumps with jump kicks, at least for long straight passages. ill have to look into this. ive opted for a different jumping strat that makes it faster. im not sure if this would be better or not as ive not yet gotten that. Wolverine can foward-slash any number of times in the air. There is one point you can slash in the jump which makes him go downward very quickly. the part that makes him go down fast is a pain. it irritate the hell outta me in the pyramid. anyhow, thank you both VERY MUCH! you have no idea how important it is to have people make INPUT instead of just voting and not telling me why they voted what. i am currently working on an improved version which will hopefully be done in a few days.

Isn't it possible to do Nightcrawler's jumpkick closer to the ground so that you can do a new one quicker? no. nightcraswler automatically takes off and leaps that high even though i jump kich as closely as i can to the ground. the second jump kick isnt possible because all he does is fall from than on. You don't take a whole lot of damage, and often end levels with a full bar, even though there are places which you could have taken hits to speed things up. Say, inside the pyramid - can't you go through some of the spike poles instead of waiting? Or at the end of the falling stages to land at the door. i needed a full life bar especially in the pyramid because of how the apocalypse battle goes. and for some of those spike poles, it would depend on direction. usually, you're not invincible long enough. I looks like you don't teleport at max power sometimes. Since it's instant movement, there's no reason that I can think of not to use the maximum distance. there are some instances where i just needed small teleports because of cluttered enemies (the long Phalanx level). The flying spaceship boss with Nightcrawler seemed to stop blinking some time before he got hit again. Same with the bull thing with Wolverine. the one in Avalon who i jump on the head? oh yes, there were some timing issues when it came to the head. and the bull with wolverine would have charged me anyway in a given time. suppose that could have been improved to instant though. Is it possible to manipulate the game to get a less sucky character for the first level? Is it faster to die and get a new one peraps? Just throwing out this idea, I'm a bit unsure if it could be worth it. reseting would give a new one, but it always seemed to be at random. i tried playing with button combos and got no different results. its the reset thing i was worried about. would it mess up the movie any?

nice. you aim for speed, you get speed. granted, there were what seemed to be a few excessive uses of uppercuts in some instances, but that may have been something else, so i dont mind. everything you pointed out was ok... the level 7 fire hit looked planned, not like an accident. granted, level 4 felt somewhat sloppy, but i know what you mean about the damage and doing an uppercut/knee. as far as entertaining... im not sure. phil used 2 players. if this gets accepted, i wouldnt want his obsoleted as he uses 2 players and this one only uses one.

i agree it needs work. heres the deal, i started doing this because i was bored one day. i knew there were mistakes throughout it, so i was gonna see if i could post it and get peoples opinions (i beat the Brood Queen and then Nightcrawlers Clone OWNd me) and see if i could get help. however, i forgot about it. my main concern is entertainment. its pointed out i should use the slash in the air tech but it has some slight slow down that im not sure about... it might end up being the same distance covered with the normal "run" approach. 1 - It's obvious that Logan can climb walls and such. Why wait for the elevator at the end of one of the very first levels? It's right at the end, and you sit there, slashing at nothingness while you wait for it to come down far enough to jump to. i was either too fast or too slow. i cant climb those walls for some reason i tried several times and it didnt work. and then i tried to get their faster and couldnt. i was kind of stuck on what to do. 2 - The jumping slash IS the most powerful attack he has. In addition, it moves you faster than running. Why was this not used constantly? again, wasnt sure about it. it does do something that causes Wolvie to be missed by certain attacks. perhaps i should retry it. 3 - I really don't think Wolverine is the best case for every scenario. Certainly for bosses, he's good to use, but I think someone needs to test to see how much damage each character does in any given situation. ie - Wolverine does 20 damage with his jump-slash, Gambit does 15. Something like that. >> agreed. on the outside of the pyramid i kept thinking about trying to use Nightcrawler to teleport straight up. im currently trying it with Nightcrawler. 4 - Since you avoid quite a lot of enemies anyway, why NOT use Nightcrawler for most stages? Kurt's teleport, which I believe he has in this game, MUST be useful for certain spots... again, testing this out. however, wouldnt that make it kind of easy? granted, a teleport at just the right moment would look amazing. however, it takes a moment or so between reappearances. i know what you mean, and thus, im trying Nightcrawler as we speak. 5 - Magneto is available after you fight him. Is he slower in moving/attacking? Seems like he would be the strongest choice and thus the best for bosses. he does. however, Magneto is slow. i remember him from the old days. he can levitate, but i believe he is somewhat slower and weaker overall. i didnt have much help at gamefaqs, but considering what i read in FAQs and what i could recall, Magneto sucked. it would make the game more difficult, but not in an entertaining way i think. 6 - Why'd you get smacked by those bomb things when fighting Apocalypse? I thought things had desynched for me at first. Unless it speeds you up - and it didn't - flawlessness should take priority over showing off an in-game feature...and it appeared you were messing with Wolverine's auto-healing power. um, it does speed things up. those bombs go around two or three times and it would have taken longer to beat Apocalypse. im sorry about it looking like a Desync, i had originally (before the massive desyncing of the previous level) had Wolverine pummel down on them. however, when i redid it, i was a bit peeved. it does speed things up, i assure you. it sped up the battle by about a minute or more. thank you all very much for your imput! and i agree the running back and forth gets tiresome, but some of it is game fault. when redoing, ill take slashing into consideration. and im very sorry it Desync'd. i was quite happy with my Clone Battles.

ok... is the no vote a joke? not to offend that person, but what was wrong with this run? everything was perfect. completely optimal and NOT boring. so why the no vote? i dont recall seeing the note vote posted here, what gives?

i did. so do i just reload that state while the movies playing and it'll keep going and record that action as though nothing happened? im sorry bis, but i abolutely do NOT want to mess this up. STEPS (am i right?): -get to point i need to restart at in movie. -load state at appropriate time. -emulator continues recording movie and saves the new progress. right? im just being thurough. EDIT: it worked (thank god). im sorry for asking, but i needed to know the order of ops. actually, if id have read that all (instead of the first paragraph), i prolly wouldnt need to posted. still, its nice to have someone confirm it. SORRY.

the silencer isnt necessary. i need to redo the nintendo one (odd how i decided to combine that with the nintendo one), then ill redo this one if its still not enough. actually... i want this:
but would someone mind sighting ONE inaccuracy specifically. you've all gone on and on about these. just sight specifically where it is and what the problem was with it.
answered before i attempt the CPU glitch one again (this one, i mean). i have some idea of what they might be talking about, but i need someone to confirm actual scenarios.

I love it - and personally, I don't understand why people think Metal Gear makes a boring movie. I suppose if you've never played the game you could think that, but as stated, you've probably never stood behind a closed door inanely selecting your card-keys one by one to just discover a box of ammo. This could use improvement, but I loved watching it. Do you need the flashlight? Also, I heard something about the glove - necessary?
do you mean for the one i did WITHOUT using the Super Computer Glitch? if so... the Flashlight i may not have needed as i could try and memorize exact movement on the darkrooms (or just have a duplicate emulator up at the same time to help me or just take screen shots for reference). but either way, thatd be one weird little thing... watching me move in the dark for 5 screens, avoiding pits you can't even see. hahaha. the glove...ok, heres the deal... i went through the entire game right before this testing out all the things id need for that run. when i came to the walls for firetrooper and others in the building (where punching walls is necessary) nothing would happen. id punch and punch and punch and still nothing. so its going to be my little conclusion (despite what EVERYONE else says), that the glove IS needed. i know, its not suppose to, but for some reason it always is for me.

thanks. i found some new tricks when i just did whats gonna end up being a REJECTED submission to nintendorecords (i used death as a shortcut before checking the web page... ****). oh well, get it done tomorrow at some point i suppose.

ok...this might just be the sleepy side of my talking at the moment, but would someone mind sighting ONE inaccuracy specifically. you've all gone on and on about these. just sight specifically where it is and what the problem was with it. thats all im asking. everyone talks about them but no ones really sited specific ones.

How would your run look if you used deaths for shortcuts? Would it save backtracking (going back where you came from)? its at the bridge, coming back from the twin shots (i dont kill them, just run through). it'd basically save me from coming back down the elevator (as ur starting point is then the 1st floor of the elevator). theres some backtracking saved, but its not like i pass through an area where i already got items, just rooms with enemies. still, i wonder if it'd be accepted on those basis. unfortunately, im now working on the one for nintendo. so im not gonna get back to this one for at least a day or so. i will continue to try and clarify things or point things out for anyone.

1: You get machine gun, yet you never seem to use it? Why? It is in the room after silencer, and I don't think you need silencer either. never got the machine gun, i got the hand gun. if you mean the grenade launcher, its necessary to beat the bulltank in building 2 (i used it). the silencer is still a big question. one, it may alert guards too early and make me use unnecessary ammunition. two, i was low on life at the beginning and afraid of risking a ration because there are times when you get hit regardless of what you do (in any way, shape or form). 2: You end the game with too many rockets and other ammo (1 box too much?) 1 box of rockets at rank 4 in equal to 30 rockets. that i cannot help. 3: You end the game with 1 ration too much i thought about that. it looks like i could have made a mistake. however, the time before, i had to use a ration on the heat panel before coward duck. this is where it all stems from. i agree in seeing the small stops. it didnt seem to happen during recording, but i saw them in playback. as far as pushing it to below 28, that'd require using rations a lot more. i can see this only done if i use death as a shortcut as well and just run through enemies all the time. and placement problems for doors happened. yes...i cant think of specifics, but i did have some trouble during the runs (scorpion desert most notably) with placement. otherwise, thanks for the criticism! (sorry if that sounded sarcastic, its not meant to).

ok guys, im about to resubmit. its the version without the supercomputer so its my real time attack (funny how i did this one first). anyhow, just about everything is as cleaned up as i can get it. i do spare 1 ration at the end but thats because i wasnt sure what to do. anyways, the final time on it is something like 30.23 with a rerecord count barely in the 300s (dont worry, i took all menus, hostages and texts nice and slow with the low down. ended up going so far as 25 at one point because of that damned transciever). so im going to resubmit this one when its over. the only problem with the supercomputer one is it would require going to building 4. if i work hard, ill maybe get it in. but for now, ill have to rework some of my routing. im gonna have to fill out that damned form again? crap... oh well. so im gonna cancel this one, k? thank you everyone so much for all your help!! *emotional thing that wont make people freak out*

They ban the computer-skipping glitch SuperComputer? or are we talking all of them? i really dont wanna do anymore battles than i need. but thanks for the info. ill prolly have tons of competition now. hahaha. but first things first. the resubmission of my original. ill get to that soon. dammit, im so tempted to leave here and get home to do it.

What's the advantage to rescuing hostages? It seems safe to ignore some, but not others? you need to rescue 15 to get to rank . at rank 4, you can get the rocket launcher necessary for beating 2 bosses. not to mention extended health and ammo. the ones i dont save are likely after i get a rank 4. these are of no use as they provide you with nothing (unless you have a messiah complex). the one i missed early on after being placed under arrest was the CRUCIAL grey fox (crucial to story, nothing else). he DOES NOT shut the hell up and wastes a good 45 seconds. therefore, i recalculated and avoided him in lue of saving the other guy beneath the Arnold (twins who run at you) room. In the current submission, you end up with extra rations. Can that be avoided? yes. its very likely. i may end up with one more at games end. but it seems to take about 8 up and back on the water route regardless (including heat panel and boss battle). from here, it depends on how much health i have left as to how many ill need for the final heat panel before the BIG BOSS (final boss). it usually takes 1-2, 2 being the most likely. so thats around 10. im iffy about only grabbing that many as i do not trust the variables as much as id like to near end game. but i can work with it and see what i get. Missed shots/movement - I think others have said enough. yes, ive fixed that as well. seeing as how i only faced 4 of the 9/10 (depends on if you count supercomputer as it merely sits there and looks pretty while you blow it up) bosses, i have the HP count down now: shotgunner: 10 bullets bulltank: 8 grenades coward duck: 11 bullets big boss: 10 rockets so next game should be fairly easy, especially on slow down.
Keep at it, SlashStarDash ^_^
