How much of an improvement is that? Looks like a tiny optimisation to me.
It's not an improvement; it's a TWR (tied world record). Mickey still thinks that he can save 1 frame over the current published run, though.
It might be possible with some set of input. I've known since the first 0 star run that I was involved in that you can make it to the last ledge before the pipe a frame earlier (I was the first one to get the current BitS time, so I tested a lot). The problem is, Mario has too much speed and cannot make it over the wall and into the pipe. So with some harmony of speed and position, it could work, but the chances are low. It's similar to the BitDW BLJ dilemma of trying to make that turn with more backwards speed. But I will say that I believe the BitS frame is more likely than the BitDW frame.

I'm curious as to how much desyncing can be improved in the near future. I'm still not fully convinced I could TAS a full game run of anything very efficiently...and I really would like to (as well as others I know of). So until it can be on par with at least Mupen in terms of syncing, read-only, and the TAS Input, I'm going to keep shying away from Dolphin TASing. But who knows, maybe someone with enough programming skill would be willing to sacrifice some time for a Christmas present that benefits all of us. ;)

Did you have any desync problems? sonicpacker @sonicpacker In this run i had only one desync. And in SSBM and SADX have i never one desync. In Sunshine and DBZ Budokai 2 have i no desync since i use Dolphin 3.0 159 [Savestate]. In SA2B have i sometimes desync's. But the most desync's have i at Sonic Heroes. You know that's non-TAS, right? Edit: Fuck yeah, first post on page 300. Dreams do come true.

Thanks CoolKirby. Which revision of Dolphin would be the most recommended currently? Or is it more game-specific?

This is a question for someone like MUGG who has kept up and participated in TASing on Dolphin. How much has TASing GC/Wii games changed since I had tried it back in February/March of this year? For example, are there more or less desyncs? Does it crash as much? Do we have something close to a "better" TAS Input? Are newer games like SMG2 syncable and stable enough to TAS? Is there much of a difference between GC/Wii games in terms of being able to be TASed efficiently? How is read only working now? Thanks to anyone that replies! =)

Perhaps the console verification posts should be split from the SM64 thread? This post can be deleted afterwards too.

I'm laughing hysterically after watching this because I was just talking with someone about it the other day and they said it would be impossible. XD

That was found in January... Has anything that is actually new popped up lately? I haven't been keeping up with SM64 since around mid-July (aside from the 0 Star run...since I was an author).

SP, honestly if you're talking about comparison with the Japs' last run which included a blj'ful BitFS, you should hold back before getting all judgemental. I personally liked that BitFS WAY more than this new faster one which just wall kicks up cause it had so much more action. So 2 stars would be reasonable IMO...
As if your opinion is respectable on the situation. You hate the entire current 0 star team. Regardless of that, I'm not talking about it. I clearly said:
As I already stated, he gave the old 0 star (2 runs ago) a 9
I know enough about Sonikkustar and his mentality to realize why he voted 2 points lower. As I said, I don't care because it is going to have a high rating no matter what. Trying to change my view is pointless.

Dude, you should keep in mind that a previous movie even if slower can be more fun than your new current run. You can't base your point on that
I can base it on that because the amount of differences between the 2 movies (less than 1 second) are so minuscule (excluding ONE thing) that there's no way it would lose 2 points in that "category."

sonnikkustar's vote should be treated the same way as all of the other votes. entertainment ratings are usually pretty subjective. a huge mario fan tends to enjoy a SM64 way more than let's say a metroid fan. it's just not possible for everybody to feel the same about every run. giving a low rating to the technical quality would be a different story, though. btw, I think sonikkustar also gave the Majora's Mask TAS a 7 or something, maybe he simply isn't a fan of N64 games.
As I already stated, he gave the old 0 star (2 runs ago) a 9. I know he rated this one lower because he doesn't like me. I don't personally care. I was just pointing it out. It's going to be one of the most popular (if not THE most popular) movies on the site regardless of 1 biased vote.

That's the main point, and arguing that death "isn't singing" or very crappy singing isn't really relevant, (Yes, I know you weren't saying that. I'm just commenting on a parallel point.)
I agree with that as well. Don't get me wrong, I know it takes skill. I just don't get enjoyment out of listening to it.

Like I said, I like some metal instrumentals. Not the screaming (note the difference between yelling and screaming). Sum 41 doesn't scream. I don't consider them "punk" either. I consider their older stuff (Half Hour of Power, All Killer No Filler) pop punk which isn't like regular punk at all. Anything after that point mixes rock and metal (mostly rock). Perhaps you would like their newest album that was released in March. I definitely recommend checking it out if you used to like them.
I don't pay much attention to vocals in most metal bands. They're far less important than the guitars, bass, and in some cases, the drums. I like pure instrumentals just as much for a lot of metal. And you're right; death grunts are far inferior to the singing of a Freddy Mercury or Bruce Dickinson. However, compared to the crappy, third-rate vocals of a Sum 41 or Zebrahead, they're at least as good. That is, it's weird that you focus so much on vocals then mention two bands with such poor, generic singing. Also, if you're looking for great singing, then neither metal nor punk is the way to go; start listening to someone like Andrea Bocelli.
I can't help but focus on the screaming in metal. It's far too "in your face" to ignore it. And I can't enjoy the instruments with all of that going on at the same time. That said, I disagree about the vocals of Sum 41 or Zebrahead being "third-rate." Generic and bad (third-rate) are not the same thing. And I don't "focus" on vocals. I just hate 99% of metal vocals (like I said, they're not able to be ignored), but I enjoy plenty of alt rock vocals (including Sum 41 and Zebrahead).

Zebrahead or Sum 41. You can call Sum 41 mainstream as much as you'd like, but the fact is, they make good music. Whether it's their old "pop" punk stuff, or their newer, harder feel. As for Zebrahead...here you go:
I was a huge fan of Sum 41 when I was 13 years old. Loved their stuff. (I'm 24 now) I tried listening to them again a few years ago, and hated it. Way too simplistic and generic. Also, I've always considered them kind of a "pop rock" band, certainly not punk. And it's weird that you cite them considering you said you dislike metal; their "new, harder feel" is supposedly inspired by their guitarists' love of metal, according to the band itself.

Thanks for the links. Honestly, to me they sound exactly like a million other pop punk and alt rock bands. Simplistic, boring riffs. Crappy high-pitched rapping. No real melody. Not sure why you broke it up into "harder", "medium", or "softer"; none of it sounds remotely heavy. They're soft pop songs. They sound like a slightly better Limp Bizkit, and believe me, that's a bad thing.
I don't think you listened very well if you can't hear "real" melodies. And I wasn't saying it was heavy compared to something like metal. I meant it was harder in terms of their own songs. On a different note, here's a good indie rock song you may like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH_7_XRfTMs

Punk/Alternative Rock > Metal Any day.
I would actually love to hear any modern-day punk or alternative that doesn't suck. (The only punk/alternative that I enjoy is from the 70s and 80s) Are there any particular recommendations you have in mind?
Zebrahead or Sum 41. You can call Sum 41 mainstream as much as you'd like, but the fact is, they make good music. Whether it's their old "pop" punk stuff, or their newer, harder feel. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raRHUG0PkQU Why would anyone prefer the vocals from 0:03 - 0:31 over 0:32 - 0:45? The chorus is so much more melodic and pleasant to hear... In short: melodic yelling of punk/alt mixed with melodic singing > screaming of metal mixed with melodic singing

If I was still TASing this, I would love you forever. Once read only works 100% properly and desyncs aren't so common, mapler and I might give it another go.

This has been known for about 2 weeks now. When I saw it ABC World News yesterday, I lol'd so hard. Funny how they choose when news is released by mainstream media. If I remember right, the original projection was "somewhere between Alaska and southern Africa." I know what you're thinking though, and yes I agree, that is extremely specific.
