I had been toying with the idea of creating an improved version of the run, since some things about the first one bothered me (foremost, the slash in 6-1 that hits nothing... something I didn't notice until I had finished). While messing around in the first stage, I came upon a new glitch by accident. If you hold down left+right at the same time, the character will appear to glide to the right, or glide backwards to the right if you were facing left when you tried it. Furthermore, this glitch can be used to fly through walls at will. For example, go to the first wall facing to the left and try jumping while holding left+right... you'll shoot through the wall at full speed. It seemed like something that could accumulate saved time in a new run, but it turns out that this glitch was ONLY present in famtasia, so I'm highly reluctant to exploit it now. This leads me to my musing over this... if you happen to find a new glitch for a game, check it with other emulators as well, because this result has led me to question how much it applies to other games...

SMB2 + Rockman 2 are my absolute favorites, followed by the SM3 warpless video. I prefer it for the entertainment value, the shorter version is dominated by the auto-scrolling world 8 levels, which is a shame.

The only possibility I can guess is that at some point, you replayed the movie up until a place in 6-3 that you wanted to rerecord, but before hitting load, the movie finished, so everything you did afterwards wasn't recorded onto the movie file. I've done that a few times without realizing it.

I noticed that nobody has commented on this, but... The FMV posted is broken. On level 11 the HypnoBall just kills them over and over. I was a little miffed since I've never beaten his game (even with save states) and I was hoping to finally see the ending. ;)
Actually, keep watching. After the second player loses all his lives and is ejected (temporarily) from the game, player 1 takes over and beats the level alone. The second player returns in level 12. This was required because of an emulation error (and level 11 just sucks all around, IMO). Quite an interesting run, btw. Good job. :)

Yeah, that's the only place where it is needed. Ether is required to open up Misery Mire (dungeon 6) and Bombos aren't needed at all.

The new link I had provided in the first post had a typo, which has since been corrected. Sorry about that. :( The movie, as the site says, was made in the same style as the QDQ movies. No slowdown was used, but each segment of the run was played many times until a desirable run was achieved, then the player moved on in this fashion until the run was complete. It's not quite cheating, but more repetition and effort, which meets the intent of the run: to be fun to watch. I'd say it did an excellent job of that.

http://planetquake.com/sda/other/halflife.html This is a new run being advertised in the qdq channel. It's quite a fast run, uses plenty of tricks, and all of the routes were conjured up by one player, apparently.

Was Doom Done Quicker tools-assisted?
Somewhat. No cheats like slowdown is used when the demos are recorded, but the basic process for a Doom Done Quick movie, as well as the popular Quake Done Quick series (http://www.planetquake.com/qdq/), is that each level is tackled one at a time by the people in the team, the fastest time that results from this effort is saved, and the team moves onto the next level. This goes on until the entire episode/game is finished, which is when the team uses a utility to paste the demos together and form the complete movie. To keep the same health/ammo/weapons etc. from previous levels, another utility is used to save the data from the end of the previous level so the team can record the next level using the same stuff. Each individual level recording was the result of pure skill, but it took a lot of effort from the team to achieve the desired result.

I had been wondering who made the avi of Andrey's run, but I thought I'd elaborate more on the demo, in case you are not aware. The demo is built much like the runs on this site, using slowdown and such to create more perfect times, rather than a pure skill run. Andrey doesn't specifically say that the demo is tool-assisted (TAS) but rather says he "made slight modifications to the source code for a more comfortable record." In case this created any confusion, there you go. The place to go to for actual udoom/doom2/fdoom world records is the Compet-N at http://www.doom2.net/compet-n/index.cgi . You can find demos for all different kinds of playing styles, even Nightmare movie runs. The current doom2 UV speed movie record is 26:09 right now (quite a difference between that and the cheated time :), and it will be included in the next site update which should occur on Easter weekend, so be on the lookout for it. :)
