Whenever I felt like my classes were holding me back, I just browsed definitions at cplusplus.com for quick examples, and pieced things together myself. The website for Ruby also has an interactive demo that teaches you the basics of the language right off, just enough to be dangerous. Going back to C++, you can find a #C++ on most large IRC networks, usually with experienced users willing to help you out. They tend to be generous with their knowledge, as long as you appear to be willing to learn and expand. A formal education in the field doesn't hurt, either, but I know that can be an expensive venture (mainly because I'm sinking 30k/year into it at the moment, but I digress).

And, do not aim to create a game for some console. Leave that to the experts.
Quoted for truth. I wouldn't even bother trying to create NES games, unless you find you have a natural affinity for Assembly, and thereby don't mind programming in little amoeba steps. But if that's your ultimate goal, I do suggest at least starting out with specialized ROM editors, just for the sake of taking your first steps in a more friendly environment.

Huzzah! Protect cookies did the trick. Thank you, easy button.

Blargh. The first page I view when Firefox opens, I'm logged in... but as soon as I click to a topic or forum, I'm logged out. I've been screwing with this every which way, and I cannot find a way to stay logged in. -_- I wonder if there's an extension that makes Firefox never trigger the session close event for cookies. *investigates*

In regards to table order, you could conceivably move the sidebar to the right of the content. It may not be as popular of a format, but it's not inherently evil or anything.

Attempted to edit _sid by hand to match the expiration date of _data, still expires when the browser opens.

No matter what, it wants to remove phpbb2_mysql_sid when Firefox closes. All cookies accepted permanently, have tried deleting the cookies and setting them again, no change. _sid expires on browser exit, _data does not expire until 2009. Firefox is set to remember all provided data, and never remove without permission. Again, this is the only message board that gives me any trouble. Two of the other four are even PHPbb, as well.

Cookies enabled, accepted from all parties in this browser. Edit: I should also add that of the four message boards I currently frequent, this is the only one I have any problems staying logged in on.

I'd like to issue a formal request to not have the board log me out when the browser window closes. Ticking the box that says, 'keep me logged in' does not do a damned thing. Thanks and kisses, -Jupi

I get the point Xkeeper is trying to make, though. In another case, I'd probably agree with it, even. Unfortunately, it falls flat in this particular application.

First, you're making a run of a game that's already been done to assumed (key word) perfection, albeit in a different region, and with no reason for doing so. Region change is only permitted if something significant to the movie can be accomplished, and nothing of this sort was demonstrated. Second, going back to the assumed perfection point... in a game such as this one, specifically this one, you cannot let a single imperfection go. Plain and simple. But that's not to say that you should go back and correct the mistakes, because it still won't be published. Nothing new is brought to the table, sorry. I suggest you try a different game, preferably one that hasn't been published before.

I, however, will continue to keep watching, popcorn in hand. Besides, every once in a while, relevant information surfaces. *crunchmunch*

If you tried to get every last frame out of a game whose physics model fights you at sub-pixel level, you'd be the same way.

Music is my one true passion. I'm not an accomplished musician or anything, but I taught myself how to play piano and guitar (in other words, I probably perform nothing like one is intended to) and enjoy smacking drums around. I've worked on a fair number of game music remixes for the likes of Overclocked and VGMix, but being the perfectionist bitch I am, I never actually submitted anything. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I'd have a recording studio in my basement. Amusingly enough, as much as I love music, I refuse to seek a career in any related field, mainly because I fear that I'd wind up hating it. I was an animation major for two years, and I have not drawn a damned thing since I left the school. Nothing kills my passions like being forced into them.

I'm most comfortable messing around with SNES. GBx would be a close second.

If I'm not completely mistaken, not all NES emulators emulate lag frames with 100% accuracy (IOW. the real NES might behave differently with regard to lag frames in the same situation).
Not to mention that not every NES is going to operate with the exact same level of efficiency. There were so many changes to the hardware over the years that some degree of discrepancy is expected and all but guaranteed.

I was wondering if there is a list anywhere that has the fastest time possible to get every star (excluding 100 coin stars).
That would be too pretentious a list to conceive, as a perfect run has not been nailed down. There are continuous improvements being made that would render even ballpark estimates worthless.

Petition to finally convert to the metric system, and 24-hour clock standard. Actually, no, first we should slow down the rotation of the earth to 32 hours, then push for a new 32 hour clock standard. Then our years will be 273.7~ days long, and we'll have fun recalculating leap years again.

NOW we're really getting somewhere. I'd vote yes just for the obvious improvement, but it's nice to see that not even Spinball is safe from being broken like its proper Sonic brethren. Also, thank you for the momentary diversion from writing this paper. That's a Yes.

I can vouch for Boco. I only have maybe four issues of the thing, but Gamepro did indeed have Game Genie codes, either as a construction paper insert, or in regular print towards the front of the magazine. Game Players also had Game Genie codes, but they were printed in the back with the regular button codes.

I've been renaming them as I've downloaded the files since 2004. The naming convention I adopted: Game Name [objective] mm-dd-yyyy Author.extension I didn't bother including the play time, because the file size is typically indicative of movie length.

I make an awesome barbecue chicken sandwich that is delicious beyond words. 1 skinless chicken breast, cut into strips Throw into frying pan, cover with equal portions of French's Horseradish Mustard and A1 Thick & Hearty Add two splashes of extra virgin olive oil Sprinkle generously with crushed red pepper Stir ingredients around the pan, mixing well while the chicken cooks When cooked to satisfaction, serve on a bun I also like to add chopped red onion and oregano.
