Hmmm, that missed knife swing doesn't sound too sexy. But I am going to wait for the encode before I make any more judgements.

I buy games because I enjoy the feeling of weight and ownership each copy has. It's like holding a book in your hands instead of seeing it on the screen. Basically if a game is for a console I own, I will always buy the damn thing instead of ripping it.

If you really want it, this is an encode of a really old, really bad WIP I did for this game http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5195077582058847776

You might want to experiment with cancelling the sudden stop at the end of a slide with a spin. I remember it worked in The Huge Adventure, but I'm not entirely sure about whether that carries over. In any case, you don't need to worry about this kind of movement for long, since you get the superslide which has no stopping and is easily the fastest move in the game.

Wait....what?! Sometimes true art is incomprehensible, and this is definitely one of those cases. I loved it even though I had no idea what the fike was going on. Yes vote :D

Sure, go ahead. I haven't touched this game in two years and if my memories serve me correctly it's really annoying to TAS. So go ahead if you want to do it :P

WOW. Watching this movie was like watching the best Devil May Cry 3 combo videos, except the players are all on crack. And the movie is sped up. Then sped up again. Seriously, Flop, the obvious dedication you put into making every frame of this movie entertaining, even the otherwise boring (the game's fault) spaceship parts, is second to none. An absolute yes from me. Now if only MGS1 can get finished one of these days :/

Ah yes, Red Gem Early. That would have helped me so much in my youth. Anyway I'm really looking forward to seeing a run of Crash Bandicoot 2, or any of the CBs for that matter. Hope you're doing it darth33bagger! AND IT'S CORTEX STRIKES BACK NOT WRATH OF CORTEX :(

I remember getting this reaction the first time I saw the long-distance version of the Backwards Long Jump in Super Mario 64 (as opposed to the version used to clip through doors, etc.) I saw the "Mario on steroids" YouTube video that demonstrated but never realized it had speedrunning potential. Boy was I surprised :) If I might plug my own work here, I also had a similar reaction when I discovered the current method I use for Revolver Ocelot in my MGS1 run - I really didn't expect to break the boss that much, especially because canonically the guy is an incredible shot (as in, bouncing bullets off walls to hit you behind cover and stuff) when he's not being a magnificent bastard and resident quadruple-crosser.

My mother of all people not only knows that I TAS, but seems genuinely interested in the concept even if she knows next to nothing about the process. I had to explain it to her with the old "speedrunning is a sport, TASing is an art" argument and she eventually understood. My mother even sent the YouTube upload of my Sands of Time run to her friends, with a vague explanation as to what it was. Apparently they were impressed :) Some of my other close friends (yes, I actually have those) know that I TAS and on occasion ask how I'm doing with any particular project. I've had a few of my friends hooked on watching TAS's, though just not making them.

I second the Metal Gear Solid recommendation obviously :P Also, the Crash Bandicoot games and Tony Hawk 2 were staples of my childhood, so get those. Awesome games.

Oh, and another obscure cheat code that's been stuck in my head since childhood: A play on the Konami Code in Crash Bandicoot 3: Up up down down left right left right square. Unlocked a demo for the original Spyro the Dragon. Also, the Ditman glitch in Resident Evil 4. Equip a striker, hold R+Y, equip a different weapon. You ran twice as fast and occassionally could go OOB :D

The drop glitch from Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones is a personal favourite of mine, since it allows for quite a bit of Secret World exploration in what is otherwise a pretty linear game. I've had hours of fun screwing around with enemy spawning with that one :P

I'm a fan of both Nerd and Critic, especially the "rivalry" between the two. Everybody go and watch the 1-year brawl right now, especially if you're familiar with most of the characters on TGWTG, because it is quite possibly the pinnacle of human cinematography =P

I have long since given up on this particular game, but feel free to continue if you want. Have fun battling the lag :P

I've come across a weird happening in Desmume, which basically has this one game, the Legendary Starfy, act like a slideshow even when Desmume is running at 60fps; it's as if it's actively not drawing certain frames on frame advance. I've played the demo of this game on a real DS and it should run at a razor-sharp 60fps. Is that a problem for anyone else?

adelikat was kind enough to post a Viddler mirror of PureRok's encode. You can find it here http://www.viddler.com/explore/adelikat/videos/644/

Any particular reason for the unusual flight method of the Nikitas in the Raven fight? I assume it fixes him in place so you can just safely spam the rockets.
Where I stand fixes him in place, correct. It abuses a small area where he'll keep firing his minigun at me to no avail. The Nikita spam strategy was developed by brazilianjoker, but I modified it somewhat to include clipping through the minigun (the nozzle doesn't have a hitbox).

Well folks, this might be the end of the line. PCSX starts loading in the middle of Liquid's unskippable final speech...and keeps loading... and never stops. I'll never say never, but it's unlikely that I can continue this run. In the meantime here's my REX fight http://www.filefront.com/14291155/metalgearsolid1v2-tas-extreme-theenglishman.pxm Let's hope this can be fixed. Eventually. Maybe :(

Oh, that might have been it. I looked at it again and it didn't desync, and I used PCSX-RR 0.1.2. this time.

Almost looked like you were just playing around. :D A lot of really funny parts (this was my favourite :P).
Yeah, it's interesting how that part works: You're not actually supposed to be able to sneak in there, and it was only a programming error giving me literally a frame or two to take the proper cover. Since you're not supposed to be there, the AI doesn't check for you there thus causing the loop.

Okay, so I'm making huge progress now. I am already finished up until the Metal Gear REX fight! We are in the home stretch now, folks! Here you go, and enjoy the most boring part of the game. EDIT: Yes I just realized there's a desync in the fire area. Fuck. Well I'll have to fix it, but that will be later.

Could you simply trow some grenade insthead of that nikita ?
No. Grenades alway have a set timer on them, even when they hit something (except for Mantis who detonates them right away). Nikita spamming allows Raven to stay in one spot and loop through his minigun-Snake-and-miss-every-bullet animation.
