So if theoretically Swordless's run gets rejected, and then a month or two down the line a Japanese native submits a J TAS that is almost identical to Swordless's (I.E, it would either copy large amounts of input, or uses the same .m64), then nobody would mind that it is in Japanese?
it seems rather arbitrary, especially when the technical difference between the US and J roms is one byte that switches the flag on text choice (Looking at the debug screen of US and J (assuming both are 1.0) you can see that they both were built at the same time (someone correct me if I am wrong)).
Also great run Swordless, voting yes for sure. It was great to be able to watch your progess in the IRC. GG
Except that even if it was English, you would not understand what is happening.
If the story involved 5 main events, that are as follows (basing slightly off oot);
1)go meet the princess
2)princess gets kidnapped
3)big long story reason explained for why princess is kidnapped
4)go learn about your destiny
5)go kill the big baddie,
and the TAS did it in the order of 4), 2), skip 3, 1), 5), the story would make absolutely no sense to anyone who has not played it before.
So the argument that people who have not seen it before want to know what is happening doesn't make a ton of sense, because they would not understand anything anyway.
Well they never wanted stick on B to be allowed in the first place. The only reason it is still there is because they were lazy in how they fixed the bugs. Instead of addressing the problem with why you could get stick B in the first place (rewriting pointers or something similar), they fixed stealing the rod from the pond. Therefore while they thought the glitch was perfectly fixed, once a new way to steal from the pond was found, all the old rba was back.
So in one post Wak is seen asking for information on the plugin, and then 3 months later sonicpacker posts as if hes giving information on what needs to be improved with a current input plugin?
So my question is, does the plugin exist in any form yet (and if so where is it)?
I want to start doing some monkeyball TAS'es and that would really benefit from being able to tweak the x/y axis little by little, instead of relying on keeping my thumb still.
thanks.
really nice run, and the fact that more time can be saved is even more mindblowing. at about what time (game time preferably) is drac killed (as richter)?
I have been really busy with school, much more than i imagined (it would have been better to start this at the beginning of summer when i had 80+ hours of free time a week, rather than now when i have 20), and i will try to get another task up this week (no promises about anything though).
sorry. =)
ok, thanks. my computer im using currently cant run dolphin since it has an onboard graphics card, but i should be getting a computer than can run it up soon.
i know there is not movies but i was wondering what kind of frame advance is in dolphin (frame advance or just slowdown). also can you take saves from dolphins "virtual memory card" (if there is one) and move them to a real memory card? because if both of these are true i am going to make some replays for super monkey ball.
thanks in advance for help
i wanted to experiment with the 2 games 1 input style of TAS (I.E. the megaman 1-4 run or others)
i wanted to know how these are done. are these done with a lua script/external program/tasing one game then opening the movie with the other game and seeing how it works?
thanks
I was just curious how people felt about this. if you TAS a game, and spend hours on saving less than 10 frames of a game, and have completed a full TAS of it, do you still enjoy playing the game in real time on a console?
thanks, i don't have much of an opinion yet because usually i TAS short challenges. but so far i believe that TASing the game can make me better at it in real time because i understand its intricacies and how it works better.
the only thing that has to be done in order is number 5, since that needs to be done at the end. also i am working on a solution to get all the challenges displayed at once.
lol, this thread is way off track, but i have a teacher at my school (ex football coach, and this is in us) who puts movies on the last few days of every term. he has a box of pirated movies that he casually pulls out. it has suprised me this past x years how many pirated movies i have seen shown at school.
hopefully i will get everything updated wednesday, if i get my hw done early enough. i am making progress in the videos as movie maker suddenly started wanting to work. but i am holding off my genesis challenge in favor of a less complicated one, as my genesis one will take a while to come up with the challenge.
=)
i want to experiment with some n64 games being TASed with 1 input (examples of this on the site are the megaman 1-4 run etc etc), and i was wondering how/if i would do this with mupen. if i am playing in real time and have 2 copies of mupen open my keyboard inputs effect both games, but things like frame advance/savestate/tas input plugin/etc etc only work on the window i have active. are these done with a lua script/external program/tasing one game then opening the movie with the other game and seeing how it works?
thanks, just wanted to know if it was possible.
thanks
i wanted to apologize for my post a few days ago (on this thread) saying that i am really annoyed by "emunoobs" at my school. it is true that it is a very small annoyance for me, but i overreacted (i was really just looking for ways to procrastinate doing work i needed to do during lunch). the teacher i described is actually my favorite teacher, and as president of the schools technology club, i have taught people about TASing (2 years ago i did it as one of our tech club sessions, and im gonna do more this year). so sorry for complaining about them.
i do hope though that the kids i am complaining about dont ruin it for me. they always are quite loud and obvious about it (they put a folder titled "roms" on the root of the schools main server...), and i just TAS. it would really be annoying if i got told no emulators because of them, although whatever.
i do find it very funny though, every time i TAS at school, i get about 5-6 comments about how my computers lagging, lol.
i ended up not being able to finish it tonight, (although i got the avi's for all the videos). i dont have school friday which means i dont have to work on homework tomorrow, so i should be able to get everything updated.
list of what i have to do
1)compilation video for task 2
2)results and compilation video for task 3
3)decide on a task for task 4 (i have 5 games i am choosing from, it is genesis and there is a 80% chance it will be 2 player and require the multi-track)
by the way raijinxblade nice job with the mm2 race =) i got to the first wily level and got stuck. pretty good imo considering i had never touched mega man 2 (except the demo for the ****** iphone version which doesnt count)
yes i will, i have just been really busy with school this week (i was sick for 2 days last week, and in high school, that puts me WAAAAAY behind) i will try to get the compilation vids for the last to tasks up tonight, and a new task. i have one in mind i just have to check and make sure it is possible.
im starting a casual/test run of this, nothing very optimized (optimized cutscenes, choose starter that seems to have best type for early gyms (i like choosing squirtle in red because i dont have a gym my pokes bad agains until 3, when i have other options), basic stuff), i cant see myself going back more than 10-30 thousand frames (estimate) unless a big glitch/abuse is discovered. the main reason im doing this is because i know somebody at school that has a flashcart and already "has" black and most likely has beaten it, and he annoys me quite a bit for various reasons. so i just want to be able to be tas'ing it when he shows it off to everybody. but i also want to get a quick test run out just for fun.
i will be trying to manipulate the rng as best i can (probably spend about 1-2 hours on starter iv manipulating if possible) and critties and stuff like that. yes i know about how the rng is likely more difficult to manipulate, but i am going to try.
i cant understand japanese beyond a few words here and there i learned off watching anime, so if somebody knew where i could find a WIP translation guide thats being made, that would be appreciated. mainly i need the pause menu translated (i need to know how to get to the options and turn animations off, although i may leave them on for the test run,), along with maybe a screenie of what the screen will look like during a critical hit and a miss (so i know what to attempt to rng.). i dont really need story because i can find something online that will tell me where to go, also pokemon names are unneeded because they are foreign names to me anyway so i will call a pokemon for instance, "the pokemon with the two wierd u symbols in his name".
while this wont be optimized, hopefully it will help me gather information for when somebody does really make a submittable one.
also quick memory question for anybody who can answer it. do pokemon games typically keep every enemies pokemon's hp in the same address (e.x. im facing pidgey, his hp value is 20 stored in 0690. i kill him, go to a gym fight brock, his onyx's hp value is 50 stored in the same address of 0690.) and in general what addresses would be useful? thanks.
awsome, i wont have a good entry just because of school work, but i have a question regarding the next task. the system is going to be genesis, and i was wondering how people would feel about the task featuring you controlling 2 players (you would use the genesis multitrack script, if one exists that works)
thoughts?
alright, i will change the start timing to be the first frame the map select screen starts to darken (after you have hit a to start the level). the reason i dont want a start from reset is that i dont want everybody to have to spend 5-10 min making frame perfect menu selections if they dont want to, they can just autofire through it.
