That video is really bad - in addition to being unoptimized, it's obviously sped up, so the reported time is a lie. I agree a 100% run would be the best, to show off the levels and the many ways in which they can be broken. Recently, someone came out with a full hack of Super Mario 64, and it's generally quite well done. That fragment was one of the most entertaining TASes I've ever seen. The coordination of both characters to jar the earthlings as quickly as possible - wow. If anybody wants to pick this up (I would, but I'm absolute crap at TASing), you should know that a trick's been discovered to warp from level 1 to level 5, effectively skipping most of the really boring levels. You can see it in the current SDA run.

I made a shot at TASing this once and proved only that I should never, ever try to TAS again. My run was 13:17. Thanks for finally making an acceptable version of this.

OK, you guys have convinced me that this run is a lot more improvable than I thought it was when I submitted it. I'll go ahead and cancel this submission and work on a re-run. I'll post a WIP in the NES forum when I've got the first level done.

You can't get through the gaps in that lava, I tried. The only thing I could have done besides getting hit would be to stand there and wait for all four lava flows to go by. The final boss can register only three hits every time it opens. If I did four, I messed up.

I don't think there are any places I took damage where it could have been avoided and been quicker. Every time I had to take damage I spent several dozen rerecords testing frame by frame whether a jump could get me past it. As for the missed attacks, are you referring to the enemy dog/soldier you run into twice in the game? They have wide hitboxes and I think I managed to tag them every time. You're right about the lag, though. Level 3 really slows down in some spots. About the constant damage boosting, isn't the point of these movies to watch the game played as if by a perfect player? Doing that just makes it no longer look like playing to me.

I'm surprised that anyone besides me likes this game; it's on some peoples' worst-game-ever lists. I always thought it was really fun, though.

What a fun old game! I enjoyed watching your movie a lot, because I remember actually sliding across the whole level to do it as fast as possible. It wasn't very impressive early on, but was much cooler on later, more frustrating levels (mainly South Pole). The way you handled the bosses was very classy.

The genesis version is one of the few licensed games I've played on a 16-bit console that I've actually enjoyed (another being Quackshot!)

These little glitches add a certain untouchable quality to SMB runs above simple speed... It's the "How the heck did they do that?" factor. Makes for a very entertaining video.

Has anyone else played this game? It's an old favorite of mine from back when I actually had an NES, and those who've played it generally like it very much, but it's fairly obscure... I've done a video of this game in 17 minutes or so that never gets hit and was made without slow-mo. There's a lot of potential to be faster by getting hit in certain places, but it's my opinion that a no-hit video is far more entertaining, especially since the thing that makes this a hard game is the fact that there are always so many things to hit you.

Wow, that's... incredibly obsessive. Good, though. These SMB2j videos are very amazing. It took me a month to beat that game, so it's quite shocking to see it done in 8 minutes.

Does anyone think time attacks of these games would be entertaining? There certainly isn't as much action as in other types of games (well, Lolo has a bit), but it is very impressive on higher levels to see these games done impeccably. Of course, another limitation is that these games tend to be so prohibitively long. Any thoughts?
