The new movie pages are really bad. It looks very amateurish that the title appears twice in the standard grey area and in the purple header on individual publications; they're right next to each other, no one is going to forget that quickly. I also find it inconsistent that the "obsoletes" notice stayed in the white text box, but the "this movie has been obsoleted!" notice has been moved to the top above the title, which is very easy to lose track of when you're scrolling through a list. Speaking of losing track of things, there is way too little prominence on publication info and details. The publication date is just a tiny speck of info offered sans context, and the rating is tucked away at the end of the description, all the while things most people don't care about (HOLY SMOKES! COMPATIBILITY TORRENT!!!) now suddenly take up a fair bit of real estate. The previous design with its varying fonts and sequestered prominence was much better. The new submissions page is clunkier too. I think that clicking on things like the time of the run should lead you to the submission page, not just the game name, given that it really doesn't take up much space anymore. I'm also not sure if it's necessary to give a username along with the status; if you scroll through old years of submissions, you just get a listing of a bunch of editors who had nothing to do with the run or its publication doing post-publication tweaks, which really isn't telling me anything useful, especially because it has no context whatsoever. I think the new forum looks better in theory, but it does seem like nobody is home at the moment with how barren the forums look, and the centering and width does make the pages look pretty squished. The search is much cleaner and I'm glad it doesn't cap you every 5 seconds, though there is a bit too much space dedicated to the "experienced forum user" stuff. I also miss the varying shades on each post, which makes threads look less sterile. Signatures also need at least a line break IMO; right now, at a glance, it's impossible to tell that they aren't just giant quotes put into posts. The profiles are a little dinkier, too. No room for things like genre, rerecord, and vote count? And why are there no clear links instead of just "click on these purple numbers"? The current forum is better in this regard; you can see how to clearly find every post you've made, and the links are all underlined and blue. Overall, it is a good start with some long-needed changes. I am glad I can finally load a large list of movies without destroying my browser. Hopefully the kinks can be ironed out before it goes live and extinguishes the old dinosaur.

I see no reason to publish this branch. The appeal of a "no zips" run with vanilla Sonic is that it presents the game as it was "intended" to be played. When you add Knuckles into the mix, the game is already inherently broken; Knuckles gliding across stages is in the same realm of unintentional as clipping to the exit. I have no idea how to end this post. Cat kiss.

Nice to see a new trick pop up in a short and already well-TASed game. Yes vote. Given that a large chunk of this run is the exact same as Aglar's, I think it would be fair to credit him as an author as well.

You're using a bad ROM dump (as evidenced by the lack of green checkmark in the lower left). I tried "Karnov (U) [!].nes" from my collection with this movie just now, and encountered none of these issues.

Uh, this TAS is quite obviously slower than the published movie. It gets worse times in all but one level. Practice: 54/54 Beginner: 49/45 Intermediate: 73/66 Aerial: 80/69 Silly: 86/73 Ultimate: 95/78 Looking into it, the author "improved" the published movie by stopping input at the finish line in the last level, unlike SprintGod who waited to input a name after the congratulations screen. Timing the published movie by this metric, it is ~1300 frames faster. Claiming this as an improvement without any mention of this is disrespectful to SprintGod and his TAS.

Once you successfully complete all four of the patterns from the gold stage (completing 21 stages in total, including the bonus stages), […] if you cross over a revealed gold bar, it now flips over to reveal its dull, non-reflective side. Crossing over it again will toggle the gold bar between its regular shiny side and its dull, bland side.
In other words, an improvement to this movie would be to actually complete all patterns without resetting (or maybe reset only after the first level, since the first level doesn't repeat). That way, when the patterns start repeating, they will be in a "hard" difficulty (passing through a revealed gold bar will flip it). The movie would then re-complete the levels with this extra challenge. Tha means the movie would be twice as long for "true" completion of the game. Maybe a bit too boring.
This was brought up in the last submission thread, but I don't see any mention of it here. Could this be necessary for a full completion, since this game has no ending?

Good run of an awful game. I was hit with a mismatched cycle count error watching this on the emulator, though.

Crazy Hard only exists on the European and Japanese releases. In the US release (which this TAS uses), it's simply called Hard and it's unlocked by default.

Also, if the goal is fastest time, wouldn't it be faster to miss some enemies to avoid end of stage bonuses? I played the first stage and intentionally missed some enemies to confirm that fewer bonuses show up. But killing bad guys is entertaining, and so maybe the branch could be changed to 100%, which should qualify as a full completion and remain Vault-eligible.
This TAS doesn't achieve 100% kills on every level. I made it 20ish minutes earlier and the last level I saw ended with 99% kills. If it's true that this isn't optimal, I wonder if it is a publication-blocking hurdle. I can't imagine it accounts for many frames lost over the course of an hour-long movie, so maybe it can be excused for now. On the topic of entertainment, this is potentially one of the most boring TASes I have ever seen. Almost no music, repetitive gameplay, and it is way, way too long. I agree, though, that it is Vault-eligible despite appearing trivial on the surface.

I was able to improve this submission by 23 frames. I improved Arc's .bk2 by two frames, which resulted in a net gain of 10 frames. I found 1-2 frames to save in most of the rooms. The most egregious error in the original submission was that, at frame 13120 or so, I did not jump as soon as I began running in order to land on the trampoline as soon as possible. It only cost 2-3 frames, but it's a careless error, so I'm glad I was able to correct it. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/65022322343218900 I won't be touching this game again as long as I live. It is very bad. I voted meh.

Thanks for taking a look, Arc. Indeed, I edited numerous platforming sections of this TAS after they were done, so there's no reason to think those 6 frames couldn't be implemented. Since I've already managed to save a frame from your input file, I will redo the platforming sections of the TAS.

Yep, there's no randomness in this game at all. All you have to do to proceed is collect enough items, which are always in the same place. Thrilling stuff. You're right, there isn't much in this TAS that I would say is worlds apart from what the best real-time run is. In my defense, though, this isn't a hard game to optimize; 50% of the run is just walking around the map, you always have enough health to take tons of damage from enemies, and Dash himself is so stiff that you have a lot of wiggle room to control him (just look at how long he takes to start moving after a jump, or climb a ladder). If you're able to memorize what to do, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to recreate a good chunk of this run on an actual NES, though obviously stuff like pressing the select button to deplete oxygen on the first frame every time is impossible. I should also mention that KHANanaphone, the guy who holds the real-time record for this game, has been doing speedruns of it for years and years, so he has it down to a science at this point. This is in sharp contrast to the TAS, which only has one publication. So it's one of those games where the real-time community is significantly ahead of TASVideos. Makes sense though. It sucks.

Anyway, with all due respect, MESHUGGAH, I don't think you should be rewarded for this because some moderately prolific TASer could easily hoard runs for a little while and beat it. Unless you made this thread with the intent of friendly competition, but it doesn't look like it. -tormented

Anyway, this run is pretty improvable. Voting No, look forward to another version of this run you didn't watch on the workbench sometime soon, probably. [B]2.9? SOUR GRAPES I SAY *some mega buff TASer comes out of nowhere and tears me in half and i die*

Hahaha I pour one out every day because of this submission's brutal death but it's some random porno game that I made a TAS of in like a minute just for shock laughs, no way should it ever be published. Focus your efforts on more important things, like getting a censored version of this game made for the kids out there

Uh thanks but I don't see the relevance. Since 2 player is usually default if the game has it, it just seemed like the choice was probably deliberate, and an explanation could be helpful, no? I just like the game. :]

Sorry bud, I'm a big fan of this game (Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded, yo) and as much as I would like this game on the site, I sadly don't think this run is very well optimized, certainly not enough for publication. You should take damage more. After you get the option (which is pretty early on) there are several areas where you stop to destroy those buildings where you can have the option destroy it during the uncontrollable animation. The reason you should hurt yourself is because after you take damage your character shoots MUCH faster. This would save a lot of time on the bossfights, which presently aren't so hot because of the gun's lackluster cooldown. Right now the only time you seem to take damage is at the end when you should be in the powered-down form for almost the whole run. Also why isn't this 2 players? I'm sure that would be faster given the fair amount of twin bosses in this game. Here, I tried the first stage (1 player). This is how I think a good run of this game should look, it is about seven seconds faster, mostly because of the boss. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Viifm2R39pA (also you can skip that warning when the game boots up a lot sooner by putting in a few coins but that doesnt really matter)
