So, a "no object glitches" run is already in the works. The guys let me post a silly spoiler for it a while ago. In fact, if you look at the submisson, under Goal Choice, you can see they already suggested a three-way split between ACE, Any%, and NOG, featuring "Bisqwit & Deign -like gameplay." Not to mention everyone's favorite side category! More categories means more better for you.

Interesting. I would expect those strategies would save a bit of time, but it looks like this run is 9 seconds slower than the Mario version. But that run is done on the US version, and JP saves...2 seconds? so Luigi is really about 7 seconds slower than Mario?

This is genuinely my favorite TAS of all my time! You don't even need the cruise bubble to split this game wide open. It's great. I must have watched this three times before you submitted it here, so I might as well watch it a fourth time. 15:24 is cool moment. For the uninformed, FusionVaria hits an invisible, off-screen button with that bowling shot at 15:30, which activates the spatula on the small island. Another interesting trick at 29:22. That purple shiny object under Mrs. Puff is actually a debug trigger that completes a mission without collecting the required 6 pieces of art. I have two questions:
How do you keep storing spatula animations for later, e.g. at 17:20? Does it speed you up to repeatedly spin on slides? I thought it was swag but you seem pretty persistent about it.

Still can't believe you saved 332 frames. The end is never the end is never the end is never the end... This time around, I think I contributed a subpixel save in Metal, the little ladder boosts in Crash, and a random 1-up in Heat for no reason. You could say I saved maybe 2 / 332 frames = 0.6% of the time in this movie, so I'm totally fine not being an author. In case that special thanks section raises any eyebrows.

It's TASing season! Zipless: Link to video Buster Only: Link to video I need some hot takes on this Buster-mostly strat: Link to video I can do this comical series of damage boosts to get pretty far, but no matter what, I'm going to need an Item 2 to reach the ladder. So if I'm using an Item 2 anyway, might as well place it way back and ride it as God intended, right? It's way faster. But I don't need to ride it to make it that far. I only need a little boost. Maybe we can say I'm optimizing for time spent on Items? Not sure what I should do. The RTA folks more or less said it was too stupid to do irl so they'll just keep riding it. I believe herra Shinryuu may have an update to share as well.

For some reason FCEUX outputs the avi in multiple parts, so I must edit them together
You can use ffmpeg to stitch them together: ffmpeg -f concat -safe 0 -i list.txt -c copy draft.avi In list.txt: file '(full path to first AVI file)' file '(full path to second AVI file)' ... The word "file" is part of the syntax. If there are any spaces in a path, make sure to put single quotes around it. Then you have to use another command to upscale it to at least 720p, because YouTube doesn't believe in higher framerates for anything smaller. I like to upscale to 1536x1120, which is at least 1080p and is 4:3. ffmpeg -i "draft.avi" -vf scale=1536x1120:flags=neighbor -acodec libmp3lame -vcodec libx264 "movie.mp4" ...pretty garbage workflow tbh

A 1-byte checksum? It's free real estate! I'm not sure I fully understand this, though. Was a checksum collision not necessary before to get the game to load a corrupted file?

Task 2 has commenced. The task is to kill 6 enemies in Quickman's stage, using a different weapon for each type of enemy. Check the Discord server for more details. This thread is non-canon

https://discord.gg/JTTtcFC Come check it out! The Discord is the canonical source for tasks and rules, but obviously this is a thread and threads are for posting in. Task 1 is live and the deadline is June 19th. The task is to kill 5 bats and 3 bunnies in Woodman's stage with the Buster.

By that same token, Mega Man can't fire any weapon, making it the only bar you should waste. If that's what you're into, I'll direct you to the second-most intricate category in this game.

Mega Man’s health bar is an entirely separate mechanism, in terms of gameplay and lore. The health bar represents Mega Man’s vim, vigor, or "fighting spirit." When his vim gets too low, he explodes and dies, in that order. The weapon energy, on the other hand, represents ammunition, battery juice, or caffeine level. When Mega Man runs out of juice, he can no longer use that particular weapon…that’s it. No one explodes or dies. For these reasons, I decided not to waste Mega Man’s life energy vigor for this movie.

My man! Can't wait to work with you on the new any% run. By my calculations, this PASS WORD tech saves 50,722 frames. That's 14 minutes. This is gonna be huge!

I put in the filter. I put in the grinds. I put in 4 cups of water. I push Delay Brew and it's ready for me as soon as I wake up. Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, Shinryuu and Maru are running arcane cycle counting Lua scripts, which they give offerings to by running a bot that tries every possible input for literal days. All so they can execute DelayDoubleDutchStarskyAndHutch and clear the stage whenever they please Seriously. They are tracing obscure race conditions in assembly code from the 80's. I want everyone to appreciate how cool that is! I will never, ever stop making fun of those glitch names, though.

In YI3, how is the red shell contributing to the dupes?
It's impossible to 5 blocks to spin at the same time. I used this method with the red shell, so that while Mario was hitting blocks around the duplications, the shell was contributing hitting blocks much faster than Mario could do by himself.
Ah, gotcha. It's the same principle behind that zip in Star World 1.

Well, that was a reference to a meme that came a couple years too late.
Idk what you mean. Pretty sure I saw some rune or symbol like that once, in like Stone Henge or something. Edit: found it

That run would be about a 27:05 if timed comparably to my 27:17. As an aside, I think my route would be faster in that game. If I ever take up PlayStation TASing I might just try it!
i.e., my run is 12 seconds slower than RCW. However, I recently realized that RCW does not have underwater lag, which is a crucial difference! Bubbleman's health bar still has that "stuttering and inconsistent tempo," which is a little weird. But the actual movement of Mega Man and the enemies is full speed. You can watch Bubble or Wily 3 side by side to see paosidufygth get way further ahead during sections of identical movement. I lose 986 frames due to underwater lag, or about 16.4 seconds. Now it seems as though my run is 4 seconds faster (RCW would be at 27:21 if timed comparably). Even accounting for framerate differences (which would put RCW a second or two closer to me), a run with vertical zips and instant switching should not be this close to a true zipless run on the NES. I really do think this is from the Heat fight. If anyone ever wants to improve Rockman 2 on PlayStation, seriously do consider my route!

Great work! I wouldn't have expected another 2 seconds to come off this run! Couple questions:
  • Why not do YI1 first? Wouldn't that save 8 units of backtracking?
  • In YI3, how is the red shell contributing to the dupes?
Btw, love the Big Boo fight! Are those some kind of runes?
