The Start button isn't treated specially, so I think Omni's right on this, try assigning Start or Pause to a different key and seeing what happens. It sounds like some of the FCEU's are getting paused while some aren't. (I must be missing something but I can't fathom why you would ever want those two completely different actions assigned to the same key.) EDIT: Also, don't use the button called Pause on your keyboard for anything when you have multiple FCEUs open, handling that particular button is a special case that doesn't work well when multiple FCEUs are trying to do it at the same time.

Im trying not to curse when Im typing this post because Im really Angry. See, this is why blips version is the best and solid NES emulator I have ever used. "Todays" bug with fceu v.16, replay (quad run) all movies, then for example pause them for example at frame 500 to make a save, and what did I notice? (similar when I played at 3% speed) One fceu is one frame behind the other, meaning, one fceu is showing frame 550, while another one is showing frame 551 even though I run them simultaneously. This time I used Frame Advance.

I know a bit more of this bug. I know Im 110% right. Conclusion is, FCEU is out of sync frame wise when opening 4 FCEUs and playing at lower speed than 100%. I confirmed this by playing 100% speed now and frame advancing. It did not desync frame wise. Ya'll know the story when playing at 3% and 25% speed, it desyncs. Can anyone fix this minor issue? Its very very important for my contribution of the quad run :(

Only problem with .12 is that it crashes if it has been paused for a long time. Also, when you lower your speed while TASing (while using fceu v 16), I dont want to see that confirmed because Its a) annoying and disturbing my TASing, and b) it wont let me see a frame because it takes a frame for it to disappear. Version .12 feels so much more stable. Its just a feeling, I cannot explain it.

After a while, it desyncs framewise playing at 100% and using Frame Advance. Awesome... And now it works again, can it be more unreliable? :)

Hm after typing a nice and carefull response and pressing the wrong button, here's a less carefull response. Running at lower speed is about the same as holding the frame advance key at 100%. If the latter works, "holding a key" can not be the issue (would have been my first guess). You may just have to do the first, hold the frame advance key at 100% (apparantly, at least that works). I know I can't fix the issue, I don't know anything about those parts of the code. It is possible that it's an OS issue concerning the input of more programs at one time or something.

AF, you don't make any goddamn sense. If you have the system pause and start button assigned to the same key, and don't know what's wrong. . . God help you. My recomendation: emulator pause->pause/break key start button->enter

To see what problem AngerFist is talking about, do this: - start 2 fceu's (0.98.16) - load 2 roms - pause them - load 2 movies - enable "background input" - unpause (since background input is enabled, you will unpause both movies at the same time) - wait a few seconds - pause again The frame number of both movies will NOT be the same. This can be frustrating when you are TASing a bigame movie, since it means your movie will desync.

Indeed. Another thing which can be tedious is the fact that everytime I want to say something at irc, or on the forum, I must disable background input at all 4 fceu's, and when I want to go back to TASing, I must enable them all again :P

Try using frame advance slowly without holding it down, but be careful. Like a screen recorder, the four FCEUs do not know when the contents of the other FCEUs change. So it is possible that one FCEU duplicates or skips a frame, causing it to desync from the others. Frame advancing the whole movie slowly is still much better than entering input manually into all four FCEUs, so I would be satisfied.

Try setting frame advance and pause to something you won't use when typing text, like F9 and F10.

Oh. I thought Luke was going to merge in (port?) something to synchronize multiple running FCEUs. Apparently that didn't happen. In that case, of course they won't stay in sync unless you advance very deliberately.

If Luke was going to do anything, those changes were lost. The working link is the latest version as far as we are concerned.

What changes were lost? Luke's version is currently the last version, and also (I think) the version anger and baxter are working with (check whether it's the 21 april release and not the 19 april release, although i'm not sure what the changes are, the 21 april release is the last release he dropped). Anything changed to that project won't remove anything else. My basicbot modifcations are easily ported, and are currently no longer applicible to Luke's code anyways. I haven't seen other modifications to the last source, so...

So I got the 21th April release from Maximus the ancient warrior but it seems that it did not fix the problem. Until Nitsuja or some other developer can fix this bug, I cannot continue to TAS the quad run :( Which is really sad because it seems it shouldnt be that difficult to fix this bug. Oh well :( Edit: It should be noted that thanks to Maximus, even though this release also desyncs framewise, it appears it does that less than the 19th of April version. Another thing for any future FCEU versions, lag may affect it to sync and also loading your file.

Yay, props :) I've made it my mission to hunt down the source for the 98.16 release, though failure is likely imminent. I found a 98.16 with BasicBot 2.0, but i doubt that made any changes to the core of FCEU :(

Now, guess why I was harsh with Luke.... I knew this scenario would happen. And Phil is too.... and too .... Now, swallow your tongue and deal with it. My recommendation is that Nitsuja restart from zero or another REAL serious guy (or group). Edit: It seems, at least, the source is available. Thanks to FractalFusion which seems to have kept the source that can't be easily compiled using standard method which I once have and erased :P.

This is a serious issue Im dealing with. Oh, its a new one. I load the ROM's, pause them, enable background input&whatnot and record and save with F4 and stop recording. Day after (this day) I did the same process, only this time, it did not save my last 500 frames of progress! What the hell?! Note that I could play fine yesterday my movies last night and they played these 500 missing frames.

Sorry I can't work on this now. I was kind of hoping Luke or someone would take over... it's entirely possible he'll be back sometime, anyway. If/when someone wants to fix this, I think it will involve:
  • updating to newest fceu-mm. Hopefully that helps games like Power Blade 2, otherwise it can be fixed manually by comparing with 0.98.15 and making a change or two to the appropriate mapper/board file.
  • looking over the changes since 0.98.15 (or possibly earlier) to fix whatever is causing the palette corruption and AVI recording problems
  • going back to this post and trying to integrate that (in ifdefs as applicable), as well as extending that dual-game daemon to support more than 2 games and maybe finding a way to combine that with the FCEU program
  • applying the updates to BasicBot (or whatever other updates are on SourceForge) and fixing remaining bugs/leaks in it
  • fixing unresolved bugs from earlier, like the one where changing to read-only can result in the movie suddenly ending early unless you fast-forwarded for a while and stopped the movie once first
