About this game

This is Race Game sold by Square in 1999. For details, please read my previous submission or wikipedia.

Emulator

  • PCSX-RR v0.1.3
  • TAS Soft Graphics Plugin 0.2
  • TAS Sound Plugin 0.2 (When movie playback, I recommend using Eternal SPU Plugin etc. It provides superior sound without desync.)
  • SCPH-1000.bin

ROM Version

(U) ROM's 9th stage "Fantasia" is very easy because of many guardrails which don't exist in (J), so I used (J) ROM.

Aims for in-game time instead of real-time

Time attack mode shows result: lap time and course record etc. I stop input a few seconds to show result window.

Starts from a saved state or SRAM

This run uses save data to use fastest secret character "Invincible". This become usable after done story mode 9 times. Preliminarily handicap is on by changing option setting. This raise maximum speed about 50km.

FractalFusion: Replaced movie file with one that supposedly works with this verification movie: [dead link removed] Mukki: Judging...
Mukki: While I agree with DarkKobold's comment that a run based on a compromise between both movies would probably be the best goal for our purposes, there doesn't seem to be an obvious solution to this. This movie is a good example of what should be expected from a newgame+ run. The incredibly fast character and the extra track make this worth watching independently of the existing publication. Accepting for publication.
sgrunt: Seeing as I handled the other run, I might as well do this one too.

I vote for speedy rejection, there is no verification movie.

Henke37: I think that's too harsh a reaction. I would more likely guess that a verification movie exists but wasn't submitted with the movie, either because of an error or because the author didn't know they were supposed to provide one. So anyway, sparky, do you have a movie you could provide to prove the SRAM was created legitimately? I'll edit this with comments about the run later. However, I'm pretty surprised how much shorter this is than the recently published run. How much time was saved due to skipping cutscenes?
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. A verification movie would be pretty boring. Beat story mode 9 times. Who's going to watch all that?

Before I cast my vote, what is this all about? Is this the first time ever that anyone can play off of corrupt save data on a PSX memory card? Is this a phony run or not? I need a little more explanation. Thanks.

I didn't know submitting verification movie rule. If it is needed, I'll try to make this again. But, I'm going to use TAS movie editor so if it caused desync, I would give up submitting this movie.

This is not Story Mode, so there are no cutscene. And character's speed is about twice previous run's.

For what it's worth, I sincerely hope this gets published. It's a very fast racing game with good music, and we don't have much of a variety of racing games on this site.

I have to agree there, it is a good game. I am a bit skeptical about runs for racing games. They are kinda low in the superplay aspect. Maybe they beat the world record with a few sec, total. But it doesn't look tool assisted.

Ok, I finished watching the run. One odd thing is that I watched some of this last night and some this morning, and in between that time, the video quality on the Nicovideo link got a lot worse. Anyway, this run isn't as interesting as the recently published run, since there's less variety of player choice and no other opponents on the field. However, the game is still good, and the later races are definitely more exciting with all the hard turns barely missing walls and pits. This still merits a weak Yes vote.

You have to ask a judge for that.

thanks for doing the highwind on FF8 course. Just wondering: for the Bahamut track if you could fly off the track in the section after the shortcut and land on the section below after the U-turn and the chicane.

I'd really like to see this movie and the previous movie combined, if possible. I.E., could you take this super-fast ship, and race it against the CPU in story mode? That would be funny, as you'd (possibly) lap the CPU numerous times. It would make for a far more interesting movie. This gets a pretty big meh vote as it stands, from me.

Invincible is not usable in story mode. It is possible to race with CPU in Grand prix mode although in this mode run 4 courses one time whereas there are 10 courses in all. The number is not suitable.
