As always, I have provided a release package on my sourceforge project. It includes the movie file, submission text, lua script, and spreadsheet
Also note that this TAS uses the Oct 1991 version of this game. It will not sync on the July 1991 version.
This is a 1 minute 42 second (6139 frame) improvement over the published movie. This TAS is basically a "one hit wonder" type TAS in that it demonstrates me plowing through most of the fights using a "glitch". The glitch works on every opponent other than yourself (matches 3, 6, 9, and 12) though it works slightly differently depending on the opponent.

The Glitch

Well, really it is two glitches. The first one is the unintentional ability to rapid fire attacks. If you do a cartwheel and attack at the same time it registers an attack, if you immediately do another cartwheel, you can attack again. The result is that you can rapid fire A + Left/Right to freeze in place and unleash damage quickly.
However, this is rather slow under normal circumstances since it sends the opponent to the ground quickly. That's where glitch #2 comes into play. If you do a special move (A+B+C) to catch an opponent in mid-air as they are falling to the ground you can freeze them in place for a few seconds. A few seconds is plenty of time to rapid fire them to death. The precise circumstances for the freeze is tricky. For most opponents it can be done from popping them high in the air from a fast elbow attack. It is fairly random as to when the opponent goes in the air in the right way. Larger opponents can't be popped into the air, but they have their own falling animations that the freezing glitch can be performed during.

Thanks

DarkKobold Hey! I'll claim this for judging!
DarkKobold While there were some questions of entertainment lost with the new glitch, I just can't see them. The previous run mainly stuck to some form of scissor kick, repetitively. Also, the majority of the audience approves of this improvement. Rejecting due to massive bias against author. Accepting as a sizable improvement to the published movie.

I'm not really seeing 'entertainment lost' with this new video. The previous video looks to be nearly the same combo repeated numerous times. Also, I laughed every time during the knockout round, when the enemy would stand up and hit his head against the player's elbow.
Sage advice from a friend of Jim: So put your tinfoil hat back in the closet, open your eyes to the truth, and realize that the government is in fact causing austismal cancer with it's 9/11 fluoride vaccinations of your water supply.

[23:04:16] <Stickie> adelikat: i may end up voting yes on your pit fighter submission [23:05:42] <Stickie> adelikat: i was getting ready to chastise you on very, very bad game choice but it turns out it is not too bad of a movie. ;D
It was entertaining. Yes vote.

I think this run was quite charming. (No, I don't know why that adjective was the first one to come to mind.) It demonstrates what TASing is all about, and it's not too long.

I "third" the thought of making a 2-player-fool-around movie!

Perhaps there could be a 2-player play-around as well as a speed run...
I don't know. Is this really a good choice for a 2-player play around? It is a rather clunky game. Surely there is better fighting game choices for this. Now, a 2-player any% run, perhaps that would be a better TAS that could obsolete this one. But I am a bit skeptical since it would just be the same glitch, but 2 players doing it to two other opponents. Though that would be twice the amount of light speed elbows to the nads!

I would have to see it to be sure, but it sounds like a 2-player would take down the entertainment. 2x elbows to the nads = 2x annoying noises, especially if they are not N'Sync.

I dunno. The other video had variety, but elbow to the groin has an elbow to the groin. It's a tough call, but I'm going to have to go with elbow to the groin. Seriously though, Pit Fighter doesn't exactly lend itself to "playaround" videos, especially when the previous run is just rapid fire combos to everyone. Voting yes. Edit: In case there are those who are unaware or have forgotten the reference, I am making an obvious reference to a Simpsons episode, where there is a film festival. Hans Moleman submitted "Man getting hit with football" which consists of himself standing in his front yard, then getting hit by a football in his groin, much to Homer's delight. The image is a homage/ripoff to the title card used for Hans' video.

For some reason, when I click on "Obsoletes movie #240" the old movie doesn't seem to be obsoleted. Maybe this could be fixed?
