Hey guys i am new here also and was wondering about something how come when i record in snes9x with AVI it doesn't allow me to go through a level using save states. Err i mean it lets me go through the level but records the save states and when i use the other movie record it lets me pass them up why is this? I saw this on your site as a reference. "Save states (re-recording) The emulators in use on the site allow not only for save states, but to allow for preservation of input within the movie being recorded up until the point where the state is saved (this is known as re-recording). By using save states as normal during the recording process, you are able to undo mistakes that you have made at will. (If you load a state earlier than a good segment you have recorded, do not worry; most of the emulators support the notion of 'bullet-proof recording' where the input leading up to a save state is stored within the state itself, allowing you to just load the later state and proceed as if nothing had happened.)" Also i was wondering if there was a way to convert the SMV files so i could upload them on Youtube. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It's because AVIs and SMVs work way differently. Recording AVI makes the emulator dump what's currently on screen every frame into a .avi file, which means that if you rewind or use savestates, that will get into the AVI too. The .smv file works as a chain of button input into the game, and every time you load a state the input file will go back to what it was when you saved the state. To make a .avi file out of a .smv file, play back the .smv file using the emulator, then turn on AVI recording while the .smv is played. As long as you don't load states or rewinds, the .avi will come out nicely in one piece.
