As always, I have provided a release package on my sourceforge project. It includes the movie file, submission text, Lua script, and spreadsheets. I highly recommend using the PunchoutStats.lua script if watching it in an emulator. It shows all the damage, health, and timers which makes it clearer what is going on.
Well, I managed to improve it a again. Like my previous movie, this one does not use the "clock stopping glitch". For more info on this glitch see the Punch-Out Game Resources page.
Like all Punch-Out TAS/Console runs this one aims for in-game time with real time as a secondary (and mostly trivial) goal. I managed to improve 2 clock times as well as some real time improvements.

Improvements

  • Von Kaiser
    • Improveed phase 1 by 2 frames, but it wasn't enough to improve the clock time. But it was enough to beat the 16 frame rule that is on all fights, so it was a 16 frame real time improvement
  • Soda Popinski
    • Managed to improve the clock time! It came from better luck manipulation at the beginning of each phase in order to throw the first blocked punch as sooner. This is a really random game!
  • Bald Bull
    • Improved by 2 frames but not enough to improve the clock time or beat the frame rule. I've known about these 2 frames since 05 but never had a reason to fix since it doesn't improve anything.
  • Don Flamenco II
    • Improved the clock time from 58.61 to 58.00! There were 2 minor strat improvements here. First is to not throw a punch after dodging his first hook. It is 6 clock frames faster to just wait instead. Another frame came from a strat change in phase 2 that involved getting another random star. So this strat is now even more random than before.
The total clock time improvements is .97 seconds and the total real time improvements total 32 frames.

Thanks

  • sinister1 who managed to get me back into this game, else I would not have stumbled on these improvements.
  • Flygon for graciously making a HD encoding and allowing me to host it.

DarkKobold: I will go ahead and claim this for judging.
DarkKobold: I'm wondering if this run has reached the level of Circus Charlie, SMB1, or King's Bounty. Perhaps this is the last improvement we will see? Anyway, accepting as an improvement to the pub'd run.

Nice! Once again, a run gets improved that had seemed perfect for a long time. Good job, adelikat.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

Gotta love stereotypical characters getting TKOed all the time in the TAS. And it's an improvement to a tightly optimized TAS, so I vote yes.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

Here's a game I didn't think we'd ever be able to improve. It's a very awesome but small improvement. Yes voted.

I might watch it, I might not. Either way, I'm too lazy to vote. :P

The inaccuracies in FCEUX's sound emulation are downright embarrassing here. I think I might work on a patch later. It's the frequency sweeps, they're just wrong for this game.

Aren't the newest builds using Blargg's libraries? Pretty sure those are regarded as the most accurate currently.

Going to vote yes for this and for this to get a star, only so that when it hits the front page no one will know how or why it was improved. [/end passive aggressiveness]

I finally found the time to watch this. Loved it and am voting yes. The new strats were hard to spot, as it has been a while since I watched the previous run, but I played through the game recently so I was able to appreciate more than just the new stuff.

No clock stop glitch in this run, we have a [763S|submission] that does exploit this glitch.

This is the 5th published version of this game. This run manages to improve four fights, totaling to a 0.97 second clock time improvement, and 32 frames of real time improvement.
Figuring out the clock times for the improved fights was a bit confusing.

I know you're pretty busy, but it really would be nice if you could at least finish the boss guide for this. I at least would like descriptions of your strat for the last two, which have nothing but a video. It's fun to watch, but I like to know a little about what's going on.
