I'd think that there's probably an advantage to obtaining the gold armor just for the shield, so that you don't have to wait for/manipulate shots that are inconveniently placed. Then again, I don't know anything about how to manipulate things for this game, so I guess that's a question to be answered by testing.

Well, considering it would take ~2s to find, open, and equip Gold Armor, and then another ~2s to equip the upgraded shield, I don't think I'll ever be finding enough small projectiles that I could absorb and make up for that time.

well, you've gotta grab the gold armor eventually anyway. I was saying there might be an advantage to grabbing it early as opposed to waiting until the last second. But, hey, it's your run. You can do it however you want.

So you DO need Gold for the Fairy Bracelet, then?

I think the GBA port woulde be far cooler because of the increased speed.S More Speed= More entertainment

I've never played the GBA port. All the same I'd be happy with a run of either.

I'll stick with the SNES version, thanks. Doing some testing of this alongside Aria. You would be surprised at how upset I am over how simple the Belth fight is. I can only get 3 hits in per jumpset max, so I could technically space them out as wide as I want to. Kinda sucks, because there is no need for optimisation, I guess. BLeh.

http://www.geocities.com/pasky13/SG_Pasky_WIP_1.zip My first work in progress, keep in mind I know I made numerous mistakes. I never understood why no one made a speed run of this game as it was incredibly hard and doing a Tool assisted run would look great getting no damage and no power ups which is what I intend to do. So I took it upon myself and just did the first stage. Any pointers will be helpful as I never played the game much and just winged everything. Thanks.

the game is boring enough to watch with powerups, i think that a "no power ups" run would be less interesting... edit: ok idea, how about this? since the game has to be played twice, you can play for the first time without powerups, and killing the least enemies possible (pacifist run), even if it's slower. then on the second run, you can go as fast as possible. or maybe the other way around, since on the second run you're stuck with the magic weapon. - first run: do anything to finish as fast as possible - second run: pacifist run with the magic weapon only. that would be better

Yeah, "No power-ups" usually sounds to me like "I didn't want to have to think too much, so I decided to artificially simplify the game for myself and call it a special run category."

i like FODA's idea as well. i am biased against this game because it use to kick my @$$ when i was younger and im always entertained by movies where the game takes the same beating in return.

Its fine by me not to complete the run, I find the power ups making it even easier, its not hard to spawn the correct one with a chest, but you know, if you think that simplifies the game more by all means, have it your way. I don't understand how this game is boring to watch to begin with.

you may be missing the purpose of this site... it's boring to watch if you just beat it normally. because we know you're using savestates and slowdown. so you need to do it impressively and very precisely.

No I understand the purpose very well and have been following this site for over a year. If that were the case their woudln't be full runs of games because everyone would be using warps, because not using warps is boring and uninspiring, not only that, it means you don't have to "think" as much.....

Well, its obvious no one wants this to be done, I don't understand the logic of some of the users on this site sometimes, this isn't the first time i've seen a run get shot down either. You'd think any contributions would be welcomed as long as the effort was seen but this is obviously not the case, I suppose I should find a different game to work on. Good luck on your run FODA.

That's not what i said. I think it would be worthy if it was done the way i said. You posted here and we showed our opinions, nobody is shooting down anything, we are trying to help you build the best movie possible.

I understood your criticism. However, it was this line: "No power-ups" usually sounds to me like "I didn't want to have to think too much, so I decided to artificially simplify the game for myself and call it a special run category." That seemed more of a personal blow rather than constructive criticism. I find the game highly amusing watching normally but that may be just me since I know the difficulty of this game personally. Either way, no hard feeling i'll move on to another project. For one, I had no idea this was being done already.

Well, it's kinda true, that's why i told you what would look better. We are discussing about what is best for the site, afterall. And I think whover was making a run for this game, has already stopped long ago. Just beating the game normally isn't good enough for any game. Changing the game won't make any difference. You need to beat it interestingly, and what i suggested could be interesting, if done right.

Well, let me go ahead and go through it normally like I planned, at least it would be a good starting point for improving as like I said before, I don't know the game inside and out, I just remember playing it at a friends house quite often and finally beat it after god knows how long. Let me get something to work with going first.

http://www.geocities.com/pasky13/SG_Pasky_WIP_2.zip Made a few improvements in stage 1 and defeated the third stage boss. I know there is plenty to improve on the third boss.

I like it, but it requires some more work, IMO. I've beat this game up pretty well about ten years ago. Too bad I don't remember a thing (except that the scythe charge-up is damn powerful). :)
