Submission Text Full Submission Page
Keen 3 is a little DOS classic released in 1990 by Apogee. It is the last "classic Keen" game in that the next games in the series feautured music and made keen's sprite bigger.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: JPC-rr 11.2
  • Heavy luck manipulation
  • Genre: Platform
  • Heavy Glitch Abuse

Comments

This run beats the World Record but it might not seem like that. This is because I have to wait a bit during the startup screen.

Stuff

  • Keen pogoes higher if you press Control while midair
  • In the first level I have to wait for that armadillo thing to move down or else the evil guy will kill me.
  • Pogoing over the cave, whee! Did you know that this is the only way to beat this level?
  • One hit kills you. If you didn't know.
  • Can you spot a penis in the movie?
  • I think this is a bit improvable, yadda yadda, probably on McMire?
Enjoy

I really want to see this, but I'm waiting for a rough encode.

NitroGenesis: How's the improvement going? Is it worth canceling and resubmitting? It doesn't seem like many people have been able to view or comment on this run without an encode.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. I dont think any normal viewer would be able to play this movie back. First of all it uses a emulator version you would have to build your own (though I dont understand why you used 11.2 in your Spider Man TAS). Also it would be really helpful if you provided info on the images you used. Both, the oe you build from the games folder and the DOS image you used.

Here is a precompiled jpc-rr 11.2: http://code.google.com/p/tastools/downloads/detail?name=jpcrr-r11.2-precompiled.zip&can=2&q= That is a typo in the submission text. I used jpcrr 11.2 I'll try to get an encode up tonight.

I had no idea what version of the game you used, since no info was provided. I tried tons of versions I found on the web and my old IBM PC but all of them desynced at the first VortiMom (the one that drops from the ceiling). Finally I found one version that seemed to sync (still had to edit the movie file, since the checksum of the image was wrong). Sadly it desynced at the mountain. Rough encode up to desync Got it to sync

Thank you very much. I found these by opening the movie file with an text editor. I always wondered: How do you actually display the files of an image the easiest way? Tried via command line but no luck. For now I just have to read through the movie-file...

And thank you too. I found the version you were using and found the files that caused the mismatching md5. Aparently the scores were not clean. Plus the CTLPANEL.CK3 was off, though I have no idea what its even for. I used another original version I had and edited the movie file accordingly. Synced perfectly this time. Again, quick encode. This time from start to end. Link to video On the run: Looked nice but the Boss fight looks improvable. Couldnt you hit the third thing you have to shoot while falling down? Also why do you wait for the arm to come down on you before shooting the 4th? Dont you have enough time to pogo up there?

Thank you very much for the encode! About the boss fight, you cannot shoot through the blue parts of the arms & legs.

The run looks a bit sloppy to me. The part at the beginning of the first level you enter especially sticks out. I'm pretty sure this run can be improved with a little more effort. Voting meh.

Looked really sloppy, unoptimized jumps, unnecessary waits, detour for ammo in first level isn't needed, you can take ammo in the clouds after exiting the tower that takes less time. Not to mention the boss.
