I've just redone the last part of stage 1 and improved it by 17 frames because of new and better strategy. You can see it : http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/746/Double%20Dragon%20%28U%29.fcm And give me commentaries and suggestions NOW, not when the movie is finished. Btw, I know it can be done ~10 frames faster but I won't have as much exp points as this. I think those frames lost really worth it.

Im very interested in this TAS, but I've only just watched it. From what I can tell it is damn fast and I know of no way to improve it. As far as points go, its more than worth the 10 or so frames for more points. At the end when you face the last linda's you lose at least 60 frames by not having the elbow attacks at the beginning of the fight and you were only a few points away from having it. 243 frames just on the first level is a great improvement. The two shorcuts I posted a while back will save about 8 seconds total. Perhaps this can be a sub-9min run?

I really need to have some extra exp because I think I can skip some Linda's at end of stage 2 but I am not sure. Also, I can skip one Chin at stage 3. So it won't be easy but I really hope to obtain the elbow attack before those last Linda's. I found a place to obtain an extra 80 exp points at stage 2. I am not sure but I think doing 1 punch + 2 kick on Chin's or Abobo's then waiting and repeating is better than just 2 kick at once. I think it is fastest + it gives much more exp points. That's what I will test. The randomness is not so easy to manipulate in this game. If it's possible, I would like to obtain better randomness for falling stalactites in the cave of stage 3 and those stupid walls at start of stage 4. And yes, I think a sub 9 minutes is really possible.

I considered making a new TAS of this game, since the current publication is a couple of years old. I realized that I will not have time to work on such a project. However, I've spotted some improvements I'd like to share. Here is the first scene completed 28 frames faster. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/327562682/DD%20Level%201.fm2 Here are the Chins in level 3 completed AT LEAST 150 frames faster. This movie was started from a save point in Phil's movie, and I only used slow motion (not frame advance) to do this scene. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/66234923/dd-chin.fm2 Finally, this last movie was also taken from a savepoint in Phil's movie, but it is unknown if it could save time. Due to this positioning Phil had, it wouldn't save time in his movie, but you can jump in the water on the first frame that the 'advance' hand appears. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/624930915/dd-water.fm2 I also have a feeling that the final room in Mission 3 can be improved, but I haven't greatly tested it. Anyway, all of you "Skilled" and "Expert" players take a look at this and share some thoughts. Note that due to randomness, it may be possible that all of these may not be able to be used in the same movie. For example, I extended the first movie a bit, but lost 8 frames on the Lindas in level 1 compared to Phil.

Nice ideas! For the 1st video, I knew the techniques in my video weren't perfect, that's one of the reasons I put that game in my future project list in my homepage some years now. 2nd. VERY NICE MAN! I wouldn't have thought of that. 3rd. Well, I am not really sure if it really saves time and I think all the lives are used in my video for better purpose. But I am not sure. :P Finally, there are many other improvements. Next time I will tas this game, I will take my time studying it a lot furthermore. But as you know, I am already working on SCV4, which is so complex that it takes days and days to test a whole stage. Otherwise, Bionic Commando should have been already finished And Double Dragon should have been already started. Meanwhile, Baxter and Morrison did finish their Zelda run and I did promise that when they will finish it, we we will remake the 1st quest run. So Double Dragon for me==2009.

Just as you remarked, an expert TASer should have lots of free time.

I'm looking into an experimental sort of TAS idea. It may or may not work for this site, but I want to do it for the fun of it. It was sort of inspired by the old "Just be funny" thread. I picked Double Dragon since it has the most potential that I can see. I don't want to go into a whole lot of detail as to the exact nature of the run yet, but I was wondering if anyone had any funny tricks or glitch exploits they can point out. Just about anything might be helpful.

I'm curious what all you are thinking for funny. If it works, it could be publishable (see River City Ransom) As far as tricks/glitches: *That weird "ladder" in level one comes to mind. *The "get lots of hearts" trick in level 2. More interesting if you can find other places to abuse that just to show it off. *In Level 3 the first blue cave room. You can knock enemies off the ledge on the left. That one comes to mind because I tested it for a TAS and it was a bit slower than the published TAS method. But I thought it was neat that the left of the screen was in fact a ledge. *In Level 4, the glitched weapon trick that allows you to have a weapon for the machine gunner. It is useless for a speed oriented trick, but could be cool for a playaround.

Well, I might as well just go ahead and describe it. The idea is to beat the game as stupidly as possible. Preferably, every screen should be beaten by doing something really weird. Make enemies hurt each other or themselves, force enemies to jump off of cliffs, generally do stupid stuff and still win. I've already found a number of tricks and some of the graphics in the game can be really funny. Can you please explain the "get lots of hearts" trick? Edit: I found it. Thanks. I hadn't noticed your playaround River City Ransom. It's actually quite similar to what I had in mind.

I'll probably have to redo the run to make it tighter. Speed wasn't a goal at all, but some parts drag on a little long. I've also somewhat run out of ideas, so I thought I'd just share what I got so far. http://www.heisanevilgenius.com/Heisanevilgenius%20-%20Double%20Dragon%20Stupidity.fm2 If anyone has any additional suggestions of glitches I can abuse or any sort of tricks where I can progress as stupidly as possible, I'd love to hear them.

2nd scene - cool except when you kicked the linda's off the ladder, that was just tedious and had me going "aaahhhh no! don't do that! when I saw that was what you were going to do" 3rd scene - wow! cool glitches that I have never seen before! this part rocked 4th scene, doding the linda whip, cool, glitchign the lindas off the screen = awesome. I knew about the ladder glitch but I didn't know about all the fun you could have with that idea. I think that part went on way too long though. However, I liked that one of the linda's died without you ever touching her 5th scene - nothing special here Level 2 scene 1 - nothing special scene 2 - passively handline the guy with the bat was cool, glitched bat in the fence was cool, guy walking of the screen and never coming back cool. invisiable guy glitch to get lots of hearts is old and known, but yeah, cool and should be in there. Level up completely though is rather boring! final scene - finishing the entire scene passively would have been funnier than beating up on chin some Level 3 Knife stuff was kind of neat chin fights weren't all that entertaining, not boring though glitched bridge stuff was lol the death was super lol, yes! and it put you further ahead in the game, even more awesome Overall, I guess I found this entertaining, though a few parts I think could have been done differently. Suggestions for the rest of the movie: The stalagtites part should probably just be handled fast In the first blue cave scene, you can hit enemies off the ledge to the left, that is slower than the published TAS but something a lot of people probably don't know so I think it would be nice to show off You can die one more time, find another awesome place to show that! I recommend not using either of the deaths from the published movie. Glitched weapon trick on the final scene is a must

Thanks for the comments. I was considering doing a chain reaction with the stalactites where I get hit by a bunch of them in a row and they propel me along. Unfortunately, I can only get hit by three and then I die. If I do it at the right place, when I die it moves me forward like the other death, but it's not funny or cool enough to be the only other time where I die.

Fair enough. I'm just not sure what I can do with them that's interesting and original. If possible I want to defeat each group of enemies a different way. You can see how I've managed to do that fairly consistently. Eg: First group, we hit each other simultaneously and even get knocked out at the same time. Guy in third group throws a barrel at a wall, it bounces back and kills him. First group in second level kill themselves with the crate. Next guy blows himself up with his own dynamite. The only potential for doing something new and unique with the Lindas in the first stage I could figure out was to take advantage of how they stupidly climb the wrong ladder.

Note: I've determined it's possible to get trapped in the first stage. This information is pretty much useless for this run, but the glitch that causes the black Rowpers to float up the ladder causes them to stop on the upper floor and never come down. After that happens, you can scroll one off the screen and then there's no way you can fight him and the game won't let you continue on. At that point, you have to run the timer out, or if you still have the barrel, throw it against the wall until you kill yourself with it. The death offers no shortcut. After you die, you continue at the beginning of the Rowper fight.

http://www.heisanevilgenius.com/Heisanevilgenius%20-%20Double%20Dragon%20Stupidity.fm2 The first stage has been redone starting from the Lindas. Changes: Screen 2 - Instead of kicking the Lindas off the ladders, I manipulate them into all kinds of ridiculous behaviour, mostly involving the ladders Screen 3 - The Rowper fight is tighter now. I manipulate one of them into hitting both of them with the barrel and then glitch both of them through the ladder. Screen 4 - It turns out, of the five Lindas you're supposed to fight, you can manipulate the game into thinking that two is enough if you glitch them both off the screen. This was very difficult to manipulate and took a lot of trial and error. Screen 5 - There isn't much different here than before. I may redo it if I can find a funnier way to manipulate the enemies into falling off the conveyor. In testing I'd earlier manage to manipulate the Rowpers into attacking me from a distance while I'm on the ground, forcing them to fall off. I haven't been able to reproduce this thusfar.

Hmm, when I click on your links, I'm not asked to download anything. Instead, I'm taken to a wordpad page with a list of the input of the movie. Is there any other way you can upload it? Sorry -- these weird things always seem to happen to me.

I have been playing this game (on console) lately and have been noticing some funny incidents. The area right before the final fights with the moving platforms has some character glitches in it. Jump-kick the guy on the moving platform, he will stay on there until you jump forward then he will just randomly fall off. Quite interesting. Also, same area last platform, I got a guy to commit suicide when riding up. My only problem with this game is that the jackass with the machine gun always bullshits me and kills me. I get around him and then my arch nemesis.....me.....destroys me. I've beaten this game once on console and cannot do it again. Maybe tomorrow I will try again and experiment with some funny glitches to share with you Hyena. Btw, headbutting the enemies into water and off edges is priceless. Cheers

Sorry for the late response but I just wanted to say the new movie is much better, and I think this is worth finishing and submitting.
