Hey "TAS"ers Magical Quest is one of my absolute all time favourite games, not only for the SNES but maybe one of the total best :) To my knowledge there hasnt been anyone pulling of a TAS on this game. It would be totally awesome if somebody did, ive been playing this game for YEARS, but i cant up til this day find any flaws,or glitches that can speed up the whole game process. So i cant really give anyone any advice how to go faster in this game. In all, is there any plans from anyone to make a run @ this game?

Seems like this is the only topic that exists? I started an improvement to Dooty's run awhile ago, but quickly stopped because of the first miniboss... I'm not sure if I'll continue this or not at its current state, so I might as well share my WIP: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/39136928666148000 It is 16 frames faster up to the miniboss, but has a bad pattern. I also lost a lot of time from extra lag in the first level, which could maybe be avoided, even though I failed...

not into making another thread for something(Magical Quest 3 Starring Mickey and Donald) i'm not tasing right now,but i just took notice of the extra hits for each difficulty, the ratio being 3;5;7 for each one, would easy mode be preferable to hard mode in Magical Quest 3 Starring Mickey and Donald? Edit:i just saw the patterns from the final boss and they're the same in the RTA,it's gonna be made in easy. The boss also has more health in 2p mode than in 1p,and i can't find a way to hit twice in the same frame like in the Power Rangers game.I'm doing a test with mickey so far
TAS i'm interested: megaman series: mmbn1 all chips, mmx3 any% psx glitched fighting games with speed goals in general

I recently picked this up again, we'll see how it goes! http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/45560309525609462 Finished 2-1 being 110 frames ahead of published run.

Amazing work, man! Would never imagine so much could be saved in just in the very beginning of the game. I look forward to what you will be able to do with the whole game! Good luck!

Great stuff! I had the same idea of using the enemy to hit the first boss, wait in the very corner and let it bounce on Mikey and hit the boss again. Even suggested it to Dooty as a possible improvement if he decided to return to this game. Glad to see it worked. You're doing an amazing job, man! Keep it up! Also thank you very much for the encode. It was really helpful!

I kinda took a break from it when I reached the ice boss. As it seems like the hitbox for him is different compared to Dooty's TAS, not sure. I couldn't be bothered to figure it out so I just worked on a different project meanwhile. If I copied the input from the start of the level, the boss works out fine. But I spawn him a lot earlier, which seems to mess up things. I'm unable to hit him as low as Dooty TAS. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/48788840194699193

I guessed this could be the case or you just got sidetracked with other things. Thanks for the wip and good luck on finishing the project, man!

Struggling on the final boss atm... Not giving me any nice patterns currently, I'll solve it eventually :D. Just felt like saying that this isn't dead.

Damn! Nice stuff, man! Thanks for the update. How the Ice Boss worked out for you? Did you have to loose time due to bad pattern? Good luck, man! It's not far from the end now!

That stupid ice boss. I figured out that the reason why it was different, was because I didn't pick up the water refill at the start of the level. Such a dumb and random thing. But no, I didn't lose any time on the fight, the opposite instead :).

I found a way to clip into walls: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/53921018897655086 When you throw the arrow blocks, you get boosted backwards. This is currently used in my TAS to get boosted forwards in the third area, though it can also be used to clip into walls. Sadly, there is no use for this that I can think of.

Really nice find! Does it work in left and right walls? Does Mickey always go down?

It works with any wall, and he'll always go down, yeah. If you are at the top of the wall, Mickey can clip into wall and stand still there, which also happens at a few places when going down. As these blocks are limited to 6-1 and 6-3, and neither level is going down, this is quite useless. As for my progress: I'm still struggling to get a good RNG outcome against Pete. He has to start his attack as early as possible and spawn the candles, and I simply can't get it =(.

So I was suggested by Le Hulk to get the magic in 2-3 instead of 2-4... But when I then tried to TAS 2-4 without the magic, this happens: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/54081417317107439 More or less crashing the game... It will eventually continue playing, one frame between the "crash frames", and you'll be able to make it stop, which will do some weird things to the game that I have yet not explored fully. Edit: Well, you can actually get an actual crash from this as well, several different kinds. Maybe ACE potentional? I haven't been able to find anything useful with it so far at least.

I think I haven't played this game for too long. What do you mean by "Get the Magic" and "Without the Magic"? Is it the lamp refills?

Yes, the lamp is magic.

I see. So it's faster to grab the lamp on the grey blocks above the smashing trees instead of going to the right on the branches to grab the one out of the way. But it's strange that just skipping a refill causes the game to crash. Could it be an emulator issue? I think Le Hulk is the WR for RTA, so maybe someone could test this in real hardware to know for sure.

I've been talking to Hulk about this, he didn't know of it. It happens because of a sprite overload when spawning all the leaves. I need to either slower down a bit or hit one of the enemies. In the end, I'm not sure if getting the 2-3 magic will be faster or not.

Hey, Tompa! I was watching your wip and was wondering if you tested this: When you get the fireman uniform you walk a long way before beeing able to start running. Have you considered jumping to the top area and use the slope there to get speed going to the left and then change direction?
