This here is my Mega Man 6 run, version 3. It beats my old version by almost a minute and manages to look a lot smoother. The run could still be considered to be a bit boring, but that's mostly the game's fault, as it is quite simple and straightforward.
When creating the movie, my first priority was to make it a no-hit run. I think I could've saved some seconds had I taken damage in a few spots, but I honestly think not taking hits is a better idea. It makes the run look a lot more professional.
The previous version was based mostly on hunches, this one is based on calculations. I discovered that using the Jet is only useful if you are going to use the entire height of the flight. I also discovered things like that it is slower to use the Jet in the Knightman stage, and that using the Jet in the Flameman stage is a major slowdown.
About BEAT:
BEAT is a bird that comes to help Mega Man if the 4 letters are collected from the 8 first stages. 4 of the 8 stages branch and have two bosses, and you must choose either one. I did not get the utterly useless BEAT in my movie, so I took the path that was faster in each stage. Yamatoman is the only BEAT route I take.
The major improvements:
  • I changed the order of the robot masters, Flameman was done first this time. Not using the Jet saves me a lot of time in the Flameman stage. Thanks to Wodball for the idea.
  • I make good use of the tricks listed under "Mega Man 6 tricks" on the RockmanTricks page. All possible open ladders (not between two walls) are abused, a pit in the Blizzardman stage is avoided.
  • F.Blast is used a lot more because of its effectiveness.
  • The Jet Adaptor is used a lot less because of its slowness.
  • I manipulated the bosses as best I could. I was unable to manipulate some bosses, especially the second time around.
  • An alternate route was taken in Dr. X stage 4. I have no idea what I was thinking when I did version 2.
  • Every single jump is at least near pixel-perfect.
  • I avoided switching weapons/adaptors many times in the Yamatoman stage by utilizing a ladder trick so that I could kill an enemy without switching from Jet to Silver T.
To categorize:
  • Manipulates luck
  • Does not take damage to save time
  • Aims for the fastest time (unless you count not taking damage)
  • Uses no passwords
  • Genre: Platform & Action
I'm sorry the run took so long to make. It's simply because I have been so busy with school and stuff. The run was made with Famtasia, and I hope you enjoy it.

I think you missed a shot in X-2, a bullet bounces off the little hard hat fellow (forgive me Boco, don't have time to look up his name right now) Otherwise, I have no complaints.

I did not miss that shot, the metool is hit AND the bullet bounces off it. This is done many times in the movie.

Great movie. It's still far from perfect, but it's getting there. Question: Why does it seem at some points like you hesitated before sliding? Maybe that's just me...

I can't tell you this if I don't know what spots you are referring to. In MM6 you have to stop after every slide, and of course it just might be that some of these stops were a bit too long. I didn't let any large stops (= easily detectable at 100% speed) make their way into the movie, though. I might also be waiting for something, but I can't confirm any of this before I know what points you mean.

I'd fly with this, if only because he mentioned my name in the intro... and to that, I'm glad that you're using some of my tricks! Actually, I did watch it and I was surprised that there were more bugs than we found the first time. Truly a poor effort on Capcom's part, especially since this was game 6 in the series. Overall, it's good, at least better than what I did with the game. The only thing that I didn't like was the bosses. As you have already addressed, there is bad manipulation, even considering there are few spots where you can actually change the AI. Personally, I think the AI for Megaman 6 is too twichy and random to get any feel for it.

The first time around, I tried as hard as I could not to make Yamatoman jump, but just couldn't do it. He is not affected by anything I do in the battle, and anything done in the previous room only affects other things but not the first jump. I even tried to replay the entire level with no results. The same happened with Blizzardman. I couldn't find a way to not make him roll. The second time around there were many bosses I couldn't manipulate without slowing down too much. I tried to do the level over twice but the same bosses still jumped. I don't know how to control it. Despite all this, this movie is still a whole lot better than the version currently on the site. Thanks for the feedback everyone. And thanks for a cool way to kill the fish in Plantman's stage with F.Blast, Wodball :)

I don't think it can always be controlled. Some can be easily controlled by your other actions and others seem to be more programmed. Bright, Skull, Cossack 1, Charge (second time) are some that I wasn't able to manipulate completely to my liking. If something has a .01 chance of happening then we can make it happen but if it has a zero chance then nothing we do can change that. As much it may annoy us some things just have no chance of happening. I really enjoyed the movie, too.
