Well the question was more along the lines of 'which one has a shorter attack animation' but I was thinking of FF6's long animation for Ice-3.

How should the little battle against Dark Knight Cecil go? Fight Cecil with manipulated critical hits, or let time expire? Edit: Also, would you be kind enough to include savestates at the beginning of new parts to the movie, so I don't have to fastforward to see what's new?

Agreed, which is why I intend to have the AVI encoded with a emulator-level hack feature that amplifies the sound volume when a pause is in effect to match the normal levels.

Whoops. Guess it goes without saying I've only played the GBA version. I thought that it was Tellah that cast the Meteor during the Milon fight, rather than the twins. Rewatching it, I see that Tellah does nothing (?), except for something maybe about an ether that goes by really fast... and eat all the counters. In any event, its really impressive. Manipulated Flares for the win. I have one question though... do levels that you gain before people join your party matter at all (in this version or the gba)? Or does everyone join at a static level. If its the latter... that's really annoying to me for a normal play through, although awesome for a speedrun.

The first time a character joins, it's always at the same level. When a character is temporarily out of the party, he or she gains the same amount of experience as your living party members at the end of every battle, so the level when rejoining can be said to depend on your level in a way.

I gave it a shot. There seem to be a few pertinent addresses, but tampering with them either does nothing, breaks the pause function, or crashes the emulator. If anyone wants to experiment, have a look at these: 7EF449, 7EF47E, and 7EBCB1

I did try killing off Cecil for the extra experience, but it was just too slow because of how often Milon tends to poison. So I ended up settling with leaving Cecil alive. I will continue to post WIPS up until Kainazzo, at that point I will be taking a break. Upon coming back to the game I need to redo my test run to incorporate a few idea changes that I've had since the last time i made the test run. Right now I've finished the Paladin fight, and I did go ahead and let the time run out. To kill dark cecil would be 5 crits in a row being much much much slower. For the Kainazzo fight it doesnt matter which attack animation is faster for Ice-3 vs Lit-3. It comes down to turn order, and the fastest way to take him out is for Palom to get in his Lit-2, at which point Kainazzo loses his little water barrier and becomes weak to Ice. Hope this answers all the questions that I'm able to answer that don't involve how the end will be done =)

A code which would keep the volume loud is 0495DCFF. It needs to be on when you turn on the game.

It affects pausing during battle. I don't know of anything else since I'm not too familiar with the game. It makes command 8A (written to 2140) set the volume to FF instead of 40. It doesn't affect any spot where the music fades in or out.

Update: Finished with the scene at the Inn with Yang. I have all my stuff on this site now, courtesy of Halamantariel giving me webspace. Note: The Yang fight could have been 3 frames faster, but I just figured that the crit was a little more eye pleasing so it couldn't hurt considering how long the movie is going to be in the end. Also, there are some savestates uploaded for those that don't make your own while watching. http://www.obellemare.com/~deign/ Edit: Ahead of Test Run: 3m 30s real time 9m 59s in-game time The test run will be redone after Kainazzo. So after that fight do not expect updates for a while. Some end-game testing needs to be redone to incoorperate some new strategies.

k, so well, ya know...I lied. I couldn't stop playing. The new test run is complete. Final time is 3hrs 3min 38sec in real time and in-game time is 2hrs 34min and 39sec. I have already updated the smv on my site. This has beaten the Dark elf. This is a better quality test run, so the gain will be much less than before in comparison (For real time frames anyway). The changing rows mid-fight does not cost any frames, it takes just as much time as doing a parry. Doing the change rows makes Cid hit harder in the front row. Enjoy Edit: Need to redo this fight because of some changes that need to be made in the middle of the cave. Also, some testing needs to be done on the save/resets for after the cave to see if the first one was even worth it. Bleh!
