Comments

This TAS is faster than this one [1349] NES Super Mario Bros. "warpless" by HappyLee in 18:41.70 but also very similar thus it risks can be not to be accepted. I have make this submission only to see an execution of this game on this console.
I try to produce her funny by killing enemies' maximum.

Stage by stage comments

Time goes by less quickly than that on her NES thus I have to wait on many levels in cose for fireworks. Levels: 1-1, 2-1, 2-3, 3-3, 4-1, 4-2, 4-3, 5-3, 6-1, 6-2, 7-1, 7-2, 7-3, 8-1, 8-2 and 8-3.

Special Thanks

MUGG: For this video which my inspired to make the version warpless of this game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWGOrmBRie0&feature=related

Nach: I found this run to be sub-optimal. Normally a run which is slightly sub-optimal and not really noticeable is okay. However this run isn't good enough for anything but the vault, with its primary criteria being speed. Since this run can be better optimized, I'm not going to bother putting it in the vault either. Rejecting.

watched the first two worlds. it looks like a well done run, but it is so similar to the original. there is a good chance that you are correct and it might not get published. it's basically a magnified version of the original without the glitches. ill refrain from voting until i complete watching the TAS Edit: in world four before the castle you slow down before you touch the flag, touching it from the bottom, is this a quicker method of getting the flag to drop? because I don't think you would have gotten fireworks if you hit it straight away. pardon me if it is quicker. i don't really know if the mechanics are exactly the same as the NES version. you do it a few more times through the run, making me seem to think its like lag frames. Finished watching the TAS. while it is well done, the game is so similar with no partiular quirks to make it original, you have done a great job but it's a no vote from me :(

Yeah, I'll okay this sentiment. The game is too similar to the original, except with fewer fun glitches. Definitely falls under "bad, redundant game choice". No vote.

Too similar to the original, and it seems played worse than it (even though I'm not an expert so I might be wrong). I don't like to cast no votes to otherwise enjoyable movies, but this wouldn't add anything worth mentioning, it's Super Mario Bros all over again, so it's a no vote indeed.

Agreed with earlier sentiments. This run is basically just "Super Mario Bros warpless run", minus glitches, with a smaller screen and slightly worse graphics/sound. So I, too, will abstain from voting. Though I am somewhat curious as how precisely this run gets faster than our existing Warpless run. Is the GBC version simply faster, or is the run itself better optimized? It's hard for me to tell the difference simply by watching it.
First a movie gets submitted, and ends up accepted despite breaking rules other runs have been rejected for. And when I vote less than spectacularly on this movie, I become the victim of harassment and threats. Yay, favoritism.

The stairs at the end of levels are shorter IIRC

On more careful inspection, in addition to the stairs, it would actually appear as though levels are slightly shorter; little bits are trimmed here and there. (It could just be me, though.) Additionally, the port seems to handle pipes more quickly, and allows skipping of level transitions.

Red coins, You Vs. Boo, printable posters, a calendar, and I've heard The Lost Levels is unlockable (don't quote me on that). In the main game, though, you can switch between Mario and Luigi (controls are the same for both), skip level transitions, and save your progress anytime by pausing the game. I agree with everyone else that this is way too similar to the obsoleted NES warpless run. Voting No.

While I will not watch this run, I see no reason for it not to be published if it is of the technical quality everyone seems to agree it is. A quick perusal of the submission guidelines shows nothing about disallowing similar games. The movie on it's own is presumably just as entertaining as the existing warpless run. The mere fact that most TASvideos regulars don't want to watch this run shouldn't exclude it from publication -- some people out there played this game a lot, and NES Mario Bros. very little or not at all, and they want to see the game they're more familiar with utterly destroyed. So why not host this run for them? TheKDX7 has done good work that makes the site more complete, and I think people are jumping to conclusions based on their own preferences, and not on what is best for the site.

Confirming Lost Levels as unlockable. Sorta. It's the same stages without wind, SMB2 graphics and Luigi physics. And... Voting no, it's redundant. It seems the game is well played, so.. Why about you try the challenge mode, getting all 5 red coins and a yoshi's egg in each stage?
My first language is not English, so please excuse myself if I write something wrong. I'll do my best do write as cleary as I can, so cope with me here =) (ノಥ益ಥ)ノ

Voting no for being too similar to the "warpless" run on the NES version. Here's an idea for a "100%" run - First Quest warped - Second Quest warpless - Challenge completed with all red coins, Yoshi eggs, and score goals reached. - Unlock Black Boo in all races - Lost Levels warpless - Near complete album You could make a run starting from SRAM by first inputting GameShark code 01A02AC4, start the game, then save and quit at 1-1. Close the emulator, backup the save file, then reopen the emulator and reload the game. (check "Disable All Cheats" if "Auto Save/Load Cheat List" is checked) Now start recording movie from reset, and let the "true 100%" run begin.

Runs starting from SRAM are dubious in the first place, and I seriously doubt any SRAM made with GameShark/Action Replay is legit enough for run/publication purposes. A verification movie that gets to the same point the code sets you at would be a much better candidate.

just watched this. i believe that this is much more interesting. the point requirements make this more intersting as you have to pick up items, grab coins and defeat enemies in order to complete the stage. my favorite was 2-1

Perhaps most people haven't played it, but this game was a whole lot of fun and I think that a TAS like this as well as one of the Boo races would really show off what made this game unique.

The mechanics of this game are a bit different than its NES counterpart, notably pipe travel time is shorter. Did you test if pipes in various levels can save time?

The save file that's created by this TAS can be used on BizHawk by renaming it and changing its extension. As a matter of fact, the sound engine is almost similar to that of Super Mario Bros. 3, and some sounds were recycled from Super Mario Land 2 and Mario Bros. Also, World 4-1 was the first level Shigeru Miyamoto made. 32 levels were planned, but 5 of 'em had to be reused due to time constraints. The Arcade version has extra enemies and pits to make the game harder, and 6 levels were taken from the Lost Levels.
