Hi everyone, I'm not really a newbie here, as I'm watching all kinds of TASes on a regular basis, and I have already seen hundreds of them. I thought I could help with movie uploads, for instance, as I have seen that some movies (more than a hundred of them) are still not uploaded on Youtube. But I have some questions about this : - is the "NoYoutube" list up to date ? - are these uploads still considered necessary (as there are only obsoleted movies) ? - would it be better to wait for HQ encodes of these movies ? - finally, a very dumb question, I guess, but I still have no answer for this one : is there any time limitation for uploaded videos on Youtube ? Thank you very much.

Timelimit is default restriction for new accounts, but you can go to the "Upload video" page and follow the link suggesting you to enter your phone number to get confirmation code. As for the videofiles, some of them aren't suitable for YT uploading since hey have duplicate frames removed, so audio would desync due to various framerate. THough, I don't know which ones are really dedupped, and which are not. And we hardly can expect HD encodes for obsoleted movies (if they weren't notable) I think.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Thank you for your answer. I guess I already confirmed my account, as I was able to upload a three quarters of an hour long TAS of Kirby's Adventure by Bisqwit : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ldn2t9Nw_I You are right about the desync. Goddammit.

Yes, it always is up to date, as it displays the current state of underlying database. As to what it is: Those movies that lack Youtube streaming link. It does not show if somebody else is encoding it!

AFAIK, those are considered "nice to have".

All publications have encodes, but for purposes of youtube uploading: * Primary/Secondary: Most of these can't be uploaded because of dedup (as feos said). Even if it worked, quality would be bad. * 512: Even if 512 is well-encoded, the quality will be bad, so avoid uploading these. * 10bit444: Youtube can't deal with these at all. So, for all practical purposes, one must do dedicated encodes for Youtube. As for more info on enconding those: * Wiki: EncodingGuide/HighDefinition * Encoder's corner subforum * #tasvideos on irc.freenode.net

You can as well do a simple fast encode via VirtualDub and AVISynth, making lossless dump from emulator >= 720p and reducing framerate. But this way you hardly are able to add subtitles and logo to make these encodes truely official. Though they are really very fast to do. Why we prefer higher definition for YT? Because the lower difinition the video has, the more poor quality it gets after YT's reencoding. I mention that because it's not trivial at all - to make official HD and SD encodes.

Yeah, not trivial AT ALL ^_^ I'm afraid I fail to understand anything when it comes to video/audio standards and encoding... But I'll try to learn... Thank you both for your answers :)

If Ilari or sgrunt won't mind, I can teach you to make fast encodes. In fact subtitles can easily be added, and even logo. We just need to prepare the proper script (to drag to VD).
