I have begun to try this a tid bit. Any hint, glitch, tips would be nice. Also creative critisism is warmly welcomed since thats what makes runs better. :) I have made a quick test of the first level including the boss. Any thoughts about it? http://highness.no-ip.com/mysticdefender/MysticDefender(REV01)(JUE)-byHighness.gmv I know some bits where I could make it nicer looking, but I used only one state for this run as it was a test. For example I need to shoot to charge the power meter. Before the carterpillar mini-boss I could have started to charge right after killing the last enemy. I also noticed that the power bar wont charge when I'm walking. But if I jump it will continue to charge. Not sure if walking or jump is a faster way to move. I think jumping is slower, but could prove more effective in some places. At the boss I should probably try to move further to the right since it will be faster to walk out from the screen that way. Please post as much comments as possible in a creative way. That would make this run go faster to make, and some more stylish things in the game. My goal so far is just to keep on moving forward and never stop. Thats just a basic goal of course. :D Cheers!

Maybe you should slow down a bit and finish your several runs that you are occupied with at the moment..

Looks good so far. I think the most creative thing you're going to be able to do from here is to use the flame attack directionally to wipe out enemies not immediately in your path. Looking forward to any progress you make here :)

Well.. The flame is rather weak. The weapon you start with is alot more powerful. Besides, I think the regular weapon looks more stylish. How ever I think the flame would come in handy at later levels, ie. when crossing the lava or what ever it is in the fourth level. Angerfist: I'm not doing any other run right now. I never begun the Ghostbusters run because someone else were already making one, but it wasn't finished. I don't think I will be able to improve that right now so.. This is what I'm gonna try to pull off. Cheers. Going to Germany now. :)

Hmm... Stil planning some more on this game before I rush into it too much. I was thinking of those red fireballs that you can collect to have your power meter grow faster. Do you guys think it's worth the de-tours to grab these or would that just be a waste of time? Not sure if those red balls will make your attack stronger. Does anyone have more experience about this? Allso.. What is the strongest weapon really? I mean for certein bosses? I know that you could use the flame because of lazyness, but I don't know if it would be more powerful than the regular weapon. I need some more info about this game. Only found one FAQ at www.gamefaqs.com so.. And it ain't that specific really.

After some more experiments I have shaved off about 100 more frames on the first level. Thats before killing the boss. Still going to try to do better. Found a rout in the trees that was slightly harder to pull off, especially the last jump because there's a ninja that is easy to bump into right before I land. Took a couple of retries to get this to work. What I really don't know if it saves time to just skip enemies by jumping higher over them, instead of making a tiny jump and kill them. Any help on this would be great.

I think you move at the same rate either in the air or on the ground, so it doesn't matter either way. I'd jump over them simply because I think it's more impressive that way.

After finishing the first boss the new version is 6 seconds faster. Working more intense to cut the time down. Future work will be slowed down a bit more since I will have to plan the rout a bit better. Up coming levels contain semi-mazes where I don't wanna get lost etc while recording. So I will check through the levels better before continuing. Cheers!

*phew* I have just completed the second level, about to beat the boss. This took about 2 hours. Level 2 is a damn pain in the butt to complete. I also found out some very interesting way of manipulation. Something that was very hard to pull off, which I didn't bother since I found other ways around the problems, is that if you jump just one frame before the character lands he will begin the next jump. How ever, monster that should spawn when he touches the ground doesn't spawn. For example, those enemies that get's out from pipes in level 2. I'm not 100% sure of this, but it did seem like it a couple of times. Anyways.. For those interested in seeing the progress so far I add this link to download the gmv file. Enjoy. And as always. Critisism is appreciated as long as it is creative. http://highness.no-ip.com/mysticdefender/Mystic_Defender_(REV_01)_(JUE)(SecondLevel).gmv

Just started on boss 2. The test shows 18 seconds. But I will improve this one way or another. I think I could do atleast sub 15.

Ah. There we go. I am pretty satisfied about it. Boss 2 takes ~14.95 to complete after some better work on it.

I'm beginning to think that this game might be possible to run within the 5min limmit. I'm in the middle of level 3 and it has only taken one and a half minut so far. There are 8 levels total.

Ok. I have just finished level 3. Moving on to level 4. This, when playing normally is a real pain. And I suppose it won't be easy even with slowmotion etc. So far the time is 2minutes and 3 seconds. Might be possible to get just under the 2min limmit for the three first levels. Re-record count so far stands on 1046. If anyone wants a preview I would gladly upload it to my server.

Hmm.. Maby I should wait and not give out any more teasers. That could ruin the final product. Personaly I don't like spoilers either. Teaser = Spoiler.

If you're speaking in general terms a teaser isn't a spoiler. :) Google definition search returns this as a result: "An advertisement or promotion planned to excite curiosity about a later advertisement or promotion." Anyway, in this case it could be a spoiler. I'll wait for the final submission then. :)

Goodie. Shoulden't take that long time. I hope. How ever I won't be able to improve it for a couple of days. Tomorrow I'm going to a dissection concert and on sunday/monday I'm helping my older brother to move.

I have done level four now. About to kill that boss. The boss (two snakes) are very easy. How ever I will try to optimize it so that I hit both snakes at the same time as often as possible. Not sure it's doable. So far I have only menaged to pull off one of those attacks. The shots seems to be blocked by the first snake.

Ok. I have done the boss now. Turned out pretty good I must say. I'm still under 3 minutes. 2minutes and 50 seconds to be more precise. I don't think the upcoming level will be too hard. Made a test run on it without slowmotion just to see what I should think of etc. I will probably try to smoke as many of the enemies in level 5. They are following the character and will interrupt when I play against the bosses etc. Level 6 will be a bit more challangeing though. Pretty much like level 3. Alot of jumping and timing with moving platforms. I found a smaller shortcut when fiddling around with it. So I will use that.

great choice for a time attack, I look forward to the final product...genesis is definitely full of games to time attack...most of the best nes ones have already been done...but genesis is barely scratched, surface wise... imagine someone doing a gargoyles time attack...heh,,,that would be the day...

Level 5 part 1 is done. 3:26 is the time so far. I think the battle with the worm went pretty well. Had to do some re-tries to make the first shot connect and inflict damage. If I stood further back it would hit where he's not weak. So it had to be more or less perfect. Part 2 of this level will require some more effort I feel. Some obsticles are in the way with well placed enemies so.. We'll see how fast it will be made.

Hehe... Found a funny thing yesterday when I was playing around a bit. Actually got a shot to fly backwards. Looked pretty weird. It flew toward the boss I was battling, just it was turned in the other direction. I don't think it will have any effect during game play or any other special attribute. Just looks cool. If I figure out how to pull it off I might record it and post it as a separate video. But I won't spend hours trying to find out how to make it. I just punched all directional keys randomly as I puched fire more or less.
