http://stabyourself.net/mari0/ This game just got released yesterday. Basically, this a recreation of the original Super Mario Bros., but Mario has a portal gun. The game is completely free. There are a few bugs in the game, but the creator is working on getting those fixed.

This game should probably not be TASed until there's a stable version.

The abusable kind of bugs, or are we talking about bugs that make the game unwinnable? If the bugs can be abused like the ones in Bio Force Ape, maybe a glitched TAS could be made. After seeing the trailer feos posted in the Windows TAS Wishlist thread, I'm looking forward to seeing this game TASed.

Netplay isn't in, but 4player local multiplayer is... :D This uses love2d, which in turn uses at least SDL. Not sure if there's any OpenGL behind it. Hope it runs in Hourglass :)

Welp, the creator of the game has plans on releasing a new version of this game with many more features for map creation, but has it on haitus. So it's stuck on v1.6. I've been fooling around with the game's bullettime "cheat", and This is one of the results that came out (apologies if this doesn't belong here) Link to video

That was a pretty entertaining video, nice variety, not too long. I think if there's an emulator, or tool (like Hourglass) that becomes good enough for TASing this game, this should definitely have to be on there. I'd like to see two versions of an eventual full TAS. A playaround and a speedrun. Playaround could mess around with stuff to keep you entertained as the levels are beaten. Speedrun makes good use of vertical to forward momentum to blaze through the levels in record time.

Though if this was TASed, the portals couldn't be placed that fast. Just putting that out there. The only reason it came out so fast there was because of bullet time, which would keep the portal delay in "real time" while playing it slowly.

Since it's all about superplay, I wouldn't be against a version with the bullettime cheat involved. Especially in a playaround TAS. I mean, TASing is about entertainment anyway and what is more entertaining than placing portals lightningfast and beating the game in maybe a minute and a half? Still a shame placing portals that fast can't be done without the bullettime cheat though.

I mean, most of the portals I placed in the video were pretty pointless anyway, and I think actual use of the portals would be more entertaining than randomly placing them.

I noticed that in the video as well. But, it was just a little testvideo and for that is was good. Things that would be fun to see would be enemy juggling (keeping an enemy on the screen, making him fly all over the place), or using a koopa shell to kill all the enemies on screen using the portals to keep it on there. Or you could beat a level without making Mario move, or beating a level with Mario just walking forward, using the portals to safely guide him to the end of the stage. I'm sure there are many interesting techniques.

That Portals only thing sounds really interesting. I'd like to see that. Too bad Hourglass doesn't support this game :/

So many games still don't have (proper) support. I don't even know what happened to nitsuja, he just up and vanished two years (was it two years?) ago. Hourglass really needs mouse support, so more games would presumably be TASable. But even the games that are claimed to work with Hourglass don't for me. Loading a savestate just means the game freezes. *sigh*

Hourglass has savestates but there's indeed a huge problem with the game crashing when you try to use savestates. I never really tried to use it myself but this is all according to keylie and his commentary about when he was working on Braid

Recently, the creator of Mari0 released the beta for the next version: Mari0 SE (Special Edition). This beta is still buggy as all hell, so the stable release is Mari0 v1.6. Also as of recently, a modder on the site decided to make a TAS mod of 1.6 to allow savestating, frameadvance, input display (of some sort), movie recording and playback, and compatibility with all mappacks made with the regular, unmodded game. I'm doubting that movies made with this mod would be allowed on TASvideos though. The only problem would be recording to avi, though there's always Fraps

Link to the new unfinished version of the game or the TAS mod? Because the TAS mod isn't done yet

Sorry for the double post. I feel like this had to be said. So far, progress on the TAS mod hasn't really gone anywhere. The person who offered to make the mod only really worked on a timer and started on either frame advance or recording. He's called on someone else to help with implementing savestates, but I have no idea what's going on at this point. Someone else has offered to make the mod. From here, I don't know what else is going to happen. I think we might team up with the other dev to get more work done, but I honestly don't know. I just felt this had to be said so there's at least some kind of update. EDIT: This is the idea we're going for. An editable timeline with bookmarks and stuff: EDIT2: We've decided to not go with the timeline idea because it was getting complicated to code, so we're going to make it similar to how most emulators do it. Without the timeline and with recording, savestates, and playback.
